The Eat the Castle food tour at the Fairmont Banff Springs was fantastic. Our guide, Amanda, gave great detailed insight to regional Alberta foods. We got to visit and eat a sampling of the hotel's restaurants and go behind the scenes to learn a little hotel history.
Overall, it was worth going to this unique experience on our trip to Canmore, Banff, and Lake Louise.

I expected a great experience but this tour blew any expectations out of the water. The food was phenomenal and the culinary staff introduced each element of the tour while also adding their own story. The tour also gives an inside look at the Fairmont “castle” that even the hotel guests are unlikely to see and experience. And wrapping it all together was our tour guide Amanda, who was passionate,, knowledgeable, engaging and simply fantastic. The whole experience more than I could have hoped for and was the best part of our entire Banff vacation. Thank you!

I would do this again. Private tour of the hotel and all the facilities. Enjoying food and beverages in locations not available to the average person. Love the entire experience. Cocktails were excellent. Loved our Host Beth.

Incomparable experience well worth price! Superb cuisine, wine, cocktails in 6 amazing restaurants/bars. Amanda, Finest Guide EVER, has extensive culinary knowledge enhanced by rapport with staff creating delectable courses. Shared passion for local history, cultural diversity, food products plus remarkable hotel sites & views. Went beyond to patiently assist my husband with elevator use, etc. (Fine non-alcoholic "mock"tails too!) Book Early!

Don’t hesitate to take this tour! It was all we had hoped for and so much more! Our guide, Amanda, was a delight and an absolute wealth of information. Our tastings were amazing and absolutely delicious! Made even more so by the various chefs personally introducing us to each tasting. We would be hard pressed to name a favorite tasting. Amanda skillfully guided us throughout the hotel, constantly filling us in on all of the amazing history of the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. This tour is a must and one you won’t regret!!

Far surpassed our expectations! This was a wonderful tour…the food & drinks were all amazing and our guide Amanda was the perfect guide who managed to combine the history of The Banff Castle with an education of the areas culture and lead a discussion about the food. The “Eat the Castle” tour is a five star journey throughout the Banff Fairmont hotel. The chefs showcase some of their popular dishes in 5 different eating venues throughout the property. In addition to the food and beverage selections our tour guide, Tracey shared information about the property and architecture as well as stopped by some terrific windows to see the spectacular view. Definitely recommend.

We recently took part in a food tour at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel and it exceeded all expectations. From start to finish, the experience was thoughtfully curated and incredibly enjoyable.
Simmi, our guide, was a standout. She was knowledgeable, warm, and clearly passionate about both the hotel’s history and the culinary world. She struck the perfect balance between storytelling and letting the food shine. The historical insights she shared about the Fairmont were genuinely fascinating and added a rich context to the tour without ever feeling like a lecture.
As for the food it was absolutely phenomenal. Each stop offered something different, and the pairings were on point. The flavors were creative yet approachable, and the presentation was beautiful. You could tell every detail was considered.
If you’re visiting Banff, this tour is well worth your time. It’s a delicious, engaging way to experience the hotel and Canadian cuisine in one go.

My husband our adult son and his wife did this tour. We were right on time. It was pointed out to us that it needed to start on time, and we were; although, we are normally early. We decided to drive and park. Parking is not easy in Banff and we paid $60 to park in the hotel lot. This was our decision, but thought others should be aware. No validated parking. You can park in the street if you have time.
We were brought to a cozy, well decorated room for our first tasting. Our guide told us that we were 11 and we were waiting on one person. It turned out it was 5 others. I don’t know whose mistake it was about the count, but I do know the family that arrived late were not apologetic, they caused a commotion. It was a little disruptive, but the guide and the hotel/restaurant staff handled it. It was relaxing and enjoyable after they were taken somewhere else for there first course. The food and drink were amazing.
The 5 others were at the next location. Because the tour wasn’t prepared for 5 more, our family was seated at a table off from the group. That was not a problem, except that the guide stood with her back to our table when she told the history in that location and described the tasting. It did not seem right. I think the guide felt like she had to make it up to the new group or something. The tour of the hotel was very interesting. There was a very large table for the next two tastings, but at one of them one couple still had to sit outside the main room we were in. Then, we had a dessert course. We sat at a table for four away from the main group table, but the guide and her assistant and the hotel staff included us all equally.
I do recommend this tour. You have 5 courses with an alcoholic or nonalcoholic drink for the first four and coffee or tea with dessert. It does include some interesting history and information about the hotel and the decor.

We did indeed have 4 unexpected guests the day you toured. The guides called me immediately and our whole team sprung into action to make things work as well as possible.
Viator says there was a "glitch" in their system. Normally, we limit this tour to 12 participants to avoid the table situations you describe. We love to create an exclusive experience where you get the attention you deserve.
I am glad, in the end, that you enjoyed the food, history and setting and you are very gracious to still give us 5 stars. We did our best. I do apologize it was not completely perfect. But, we did not want to send 4 people away when it is such an incredible experience and they too had been looking forward to it.
Thanks again for your understanding and support. You are very gracious and we appreciate you immensely.
PS - I've checked the remainder of the season for any other possible system glitches and it looks all clear. This was the first time this had every happened and intend to make sure it is the last.

Highest recommendation if you are staying at the Fairmont Banff or not: you get to try a variety of restaurants and beverage pairings. Easy to book ,liked the idea of the money not taken straight away. The communication was clear on the email included all the relevant information that I required. Liked the reminders close to the date of the event.
The tour its self I rate as very good. We really enjoyed it .The 2 hosts were very good and knew what they were doing although one was being g trained on the job. Both were very knowledgeable had alot of amusing stories which added to their presentation and tour.The Fairmont was a great place to have the tour due to its vast amount of history made interesting by the hosts. The event was well structured and liked that the 4 course meals were held in the different restaurants which were spectacular. Meeting the chef a d their team was a added bonus and really enjoyed their personal stories and work histories at the Fairmont and living in this area of Canada. A variety of food tasted as well as the beer and wine not forgetting the non alcohol drinks.Overall the food was good tasty the hosts lively ,professional and made the tour interesting also managed to get the individuals in the group to interact with each other despite being from different parts of Canada and the world. Would recommend to friends and family.
