I recently went on a stargazing tour in Banff National Park (June 16), and it was one of the most memorable experiences of my trip to the Rockies. Although the summer sky was brighter than expected—thanks to the long daylight hours—we still saw a surprising number of stars. And honestly, the journey was just as special as the destination. The tour began with a hike into the wilderness after dark. There's something incredible about walking through a forest trail at night, with nothing but your headlamp, the crunch of gravel underfoot, and the occasional rustle of wildlife in the distance. It felt adventurous, peaceful, and oddly grounding all at once. We were offered a refund at the start of the tour, likely due to the brightness of the summer sky affecting star visibility. But none of us wanted to miss out. The chance to explore Banff’s wild beauty under a twilight sky was too good to pass up. It ended up being the right decision. Our guides were fantastic—one from England and the other from Scotland. They were around my age, which made it feel more like hanging out with well-informed friends than being in a traditional tour. Both were incredibly knowledgeable about the stars, constellations, and the local area. They shared fascinating stories about the night sky and the surrounding wilderness, keeping the entire group engaged and curious. Even with a brighter sky, we saw constellations. But more than that, it was about the overall experience: stepping away from artificial light, breathing in the fresh alpine air, and reconnecting with nature in a quiet, meaningful way. Highly recommend this tour if you're in Banff or nearby—even in summer. It’s not just about the stars. It’s about the magic of being in the wild, at night, under a sky that makes you feel small in the best way possible.

The walk was a casual pace and fairly easy for us. We enjoyed the staff and the stories. Provided us with everything we needed.

Easy 3 mile hike on a paved path. Amazing views of the mountains, rivers, stars, and northern lights (we went mid April). Perfect for any skill level. Guides were super informative and friendly.

Jacob and Jack were amazing guides , if you have the opportunity to take advantage of this amazing experience I highly recommend it! We had the great fortune of seeing the northern lights and an incredible midnight blue sky lit up by our stars! I was completely impressed that they offered us all a ride back to our hotel and when Jacob shared with Jack to wait for travellers to get a cab and not to leave anyone alone- impressive and meaningful

This was a very cool night time experience. The walk/hike itself alone would have been interesting but the icing on the cake was the incredible stars surrounding us on an extremely clear night. Our guide Jacob was wonderfully entertaining and knowledgeable. He even gave us a lift to the bus stop afterwards which felt above and beyond and it helped us catch the last bus back to Canmore in time. Highly recommend this tour.

Our tour guide was Ewan and there were 10 of us in total. Crampons and headlamps were provided and thats all you really need. Travel light (just a phone for pictures) and dress appropriately. It was a very informative, easygoing and engaging tour. Its clear Ewan is very knowledgeable and enjoys what he does. We were lucky to have a clear sky ; it was beautiful and quiet, and Ewan's tips helped us all take great pictures. Very much enjoyed it with my kids (11 and 14); was the perfect way to kick off our stay in Banff and a great activity to do in the evening. Not something you do everyday and most happy to have done so in Banff. Would certainly recommend it!

Beautiful views on a clear, cold night! Trail was easy, if a little muddy, and the stars were amazing! We were lucky enough to have an almost completely clear night, so there were so many stars in the sky. Kale, the guide, was entertaining and knowledgeable, he was great!

This is an amazing experience and would highly recommend to anyone visiting Banff. Ewan (sorry if I spelled this wrong!) was an informative and fun guide - he was extremely knowledgeable about the night sky, as well as the surrounding landscape. He went above and beyond! We felt safe the whole time and truly felt like we were walking amongst friends.

It was awesome! He is informative and we enjoyed a lot. New experience and nice walk through the forest and we heard Koyote howling!

Kael was an awesome tour guide. Super knowledgeable and a great group leader. Definitely made the experience worth it more! The tour was great, we got a clear night with a super moon present! Saw lots of stars and had many great viewpoints for photos.

We had a wonderful time with Kaleb. We got lots of stories about the skies and he was more than willing to field any questions that came up. The path is paved but a bit uneven in places, so if you're clumsy/mobility impaired, I'd recommend bringing hiking poles, canes, etc. It was well worth it!
Lorraine_O, Oct 2025
This was such a fun outing! Our guide Kael was awesome--so knowledgeable and funny! My friends and I had the best time on this walk, and the stars were absolutely beautiful. Would 100% do this again!

What an incredible experience! The nighttime walking tour was absolutely magical — the stars were breathtaking, and the guides made the whole night even better. They were so funny, personable, and incredibly knowledgeable, sharing stories and facts that brought the sky to life. It felt like walking with friends who just happened to know everything about the universe. A truly special and memorable evening! Would highly recommend! ✨

Jacob was our tour guide and let me tell you. This is the tour to take. It went for the length of time quoted and we covered about 3 and a half miles. Really easy trail though I could see if the conditions were bad you may want to bundle a bit. Essentially give yourself the reasonable once over “would I do well in x temperature and condition” and you should be fine. We got to see some amazing stars and even some shooting stars! Great tour and well worth the effort.

My boyfriend and I were in Banff for just 48 hours so we wanted to make sure we booked tours that were worth while, this being one of them. At the start of our tour, our guide Ewan, informed everyone that the moon would be bright, which may impact the visibility of the stars and if anyone wanted, they would receive a refund. We decided to still continue the tour and so happy we did!
Ewan was incredible! He was knowledgeable and you can tell he truly has a passion for what he does. He not only taught us about the different stars and galaxies, but he also helped with photographic settings on our phones to ensure we captured the best shot. He shared plenty of stories and also provided some historical context in regards to the National Park. We had a great time!
Just make sure to dress warmly and use the bathroom before you go as the only bathroom on site closes early.

The night was amazing. Ben our tour guide was funny, personable and very knowledgeable about the stars. The walk was easy and beautiful
Kristi_K, Oct 2025
We absolutely loved this tour. The guides Ben and Ewan were so knowledgeable about different constellations - so many fun facts and a wonderful way to see the night sky! They were very kind and made sure everyone was safe. We didn’t know what to expect and were so happy and impressed with the tour. It felt very safe even though we were out in the forest because of our fantastic guides. I would do this tour again and would really recommend it!
Sarah_M, Oct 2025
The guides were very funny and informative. They made the experience even better than it already was. Would recommend looking ahead at weather and moon phase. I forgot about the full moon which makes things harder to see. But the company was great and said before we started that if we felt like we weren’t going to get the best experience tonight they would do a full refund.
Evelyn_F, Oct 2025
It's a great walk to see the night sky. Lots of walking on good trails. Pavement a d boardwalk trails.
Lorena_L, Oct 2025
I was very much looking forward to this experience but it ended up being a cloudy night. I’m giving this a high rating because the company sent the guide to the meeting location and offered us the option to go on the tour, reschedule or a full refund. That was very fair and professional of them. This is the type of business practice that everyone appreciates. I would highly recommend them
Allison_B, Sep 2025
This was such a cool experience! I don’t remember our guides name but he was very knowledgeable about the stars and constellations that we saw, and very engaging for the entire group. I would highly recommend this tour if you’re wanting to see Banff at night and get away from the crowds during the day. We were offered a refund when we first arrived due to potential cloud cover, but decided to go on the tour anyway and still saw so much in the sky
Amy_P, Sep 2025
This tour was great. Slow flat walk with stops at viewing points to appreciate the night sky. Get familiar with the night function on your cell phone before you go! Knowledgeable and fun guide!
Alex_S, Sep 2025
Great tour. Ewan was an excellent guide, was funny, and made it a very good experience. The mountain views at night were stunning, and despite some clouds, we saw plenty of stars. We'd absolutely do it again, hopefully to catch the Northern Lights.
Stephanie_S, Sep 2025
The tour was absolutely amazing. I'm really not into star gazing but this was really nice. The tour guide was the best and very friendly. He took the time to point out things and allowed time to take pictures. He had many jokes along the way. I'm sure everyone felt comfortable with him.
Justin_F, Sep 2025
Travel guide was very helpful and knowledgeable about the stars. My wife and I learned a lot about the constellations and even seen a few shooting stars. There as a full moon and smoke from a brush fire but we still had a great time.
Jane_D, Sep 2025
Fun to be in the pure dark and see so many stars! Isla was knowledgeable and had fun stories, as well.
