This trek should only be taken by experienced hikers.
Not to mention you have to be fit.
John was the best and helped me to reach the base camp.
The views of the Fuego Volcano was awesome.
It’s a once in a lifetime experience.
I recommend without hesitations.

This is a once in a lifetime experience! Not for the beginner hiker! We clocked over 14+ hours of hiking and over 8,750'+ elevation gain. Our guides Angello and Rojilio were fantastic, like brothers to us by the end of the trip. Our group of 14 were fast friends and encouraged one another the whole way! Base Camp + Fuego + Acatenango was incredible! Sunset, volcanic eruptions, winds, clouds, ocean views, unreal! Don't miss this chance to go with Brothers to the top of the world!

No where on this booking does it say this but they charger you an estra $45USD on the day of the hike to see volcan fuego which is the main event. They do not do a good job of coordinating before hand on what you need to prepare for this trek i.e. water, and equipment. For example we were the only company where not everyone on the expedition had headlights.

The fire volcano was really cool, but our experience with the tour was poor. We were asked to carry our own food and even the extra water for coffee in the morning. It wasn't a big deal for me, but a lot of people had a difficult time carrying the extra weight.
The accommodations are very mediocre. I wasn't expecting much but they provided really thin blankets and sleeping bags that are nowhere near rated for how cold it got at night. Our whole group barely slept because we all were so cold. We saw several other groups that had a fire going, but our tour guides didn't have any firewood to light one. When I asked why they didn't have it, one of the tour guides replied that because they had to buy it and they didn't buy any beforehand. When some of the members went with a few guides to look closer at the lava, the guides put a padlock on our outdoor bathroom. They were gone about 4 hours and we all had to go behind a tree which was very annoying. For the same price point, the other tour companies offer better facilities and seem more prepared.
I also have a dairy allergy and Celiac's. I told them before hand and they morning before we started they hike they said I need to bring my own food. Tortillas, fruits, nuts, etc. were some of the options they could have provided but they just didn't even try.

The volcano itself is stunning and seeing it at night is fantastic. However it is an incredibly challenging hike. The views from base camp are spectacular and I would not advise going on the additional hike to summit fuego. It’s more money, a very difficult additional climb and quite dangerous in the dark, wet and windy conditions. You need to climb up and down with a head torch which is very challenging if you’ve not done it before. We went with Brothers Expeditions. Would not reccommend. Our guides refused to take us to the summit in the morning for sunrise even though that was part of the tour because they didn’t want to as they get no additional money for it. When we challenged this our guide lied and said we’d all been told the previous night. We hadn’t, a lot of people were very disappointed. We were also
Promised a lot of kit such as hats, jackets, torches and gloves which didn’t materialise. It freezing at base camp. Goes below 0° so you need warm kit.

The whole group were Spanish speakers. Luckily I found someone in the group who can speak English to help me translate. Our guides and people in the group were all super friendly. It’s a different hike so make sure you have all the equipments (hiking poles, hiking shoes, etc.)!
Genevieve_L, Nov 2025
The tour was great! Clear meeting place, we left on time. I am only giving 4 stars because it was advertised as an English tour, but the guides spoke very little English so there was no history or fun facts. The group was also quite large at 24 people, so there was a LOT of waiting for people who go at different paces. Makes sense for the cheaper price, but it was slower than I was expecting. Food was decent, sleeping arrangements were comfortable considering we were in the mountains but we did not get a pillow and it was very cold at night. Dress warm! Overall, I would recommend this tour to budget friendly travelers who speak Spanish.

The experience itself was a must do while in guatemala but i feel like they are charging way more than if you would go by yourself. The guides didint really wait for us (i had to guide a part of the group in pitch darkness because the guides went too fast without us. They waited for us 30min away, which honestly doesnt feel like they waited at all. One guide also tried to overcharge me for new water after the driver emptied my water by putting my bag on top of the car, even after i told him not to do it.
The cabin has no heat and you basically sleep 14 people in a row.
I highly recommend doing the hike, but id select another company.

Brothers the company I went with (via Viator) were excellent. The guides were great, the views spectacular, the whole experience was unforgettable and I would absolutely recommend Brothers for the hike.

This hike is not for the faint of heart. The hike to base camp is very difficult. It took my group and I 4 hours, but the range is 4-6 hours. Once we reached base camp, we had a 1.5 hour break before we geared up again to hike up Fuego for the sunset (~1.5 hours each direction). The next morning we woke up at 3:30am to hike up the rest of Acantenango (~1.5 hours). The top of each volcano is very cold but the views are worth it!
The tour goes through Brothers Expeditions and they were great the entire trip! Try to request Hector! I had a small group, just 4 of us total, but most tours seemed to have 20-30 people.
Response from Host, May 2025
Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We're so glad to hear you had an amazing time despite the challenging hike. The views from the top are definitely worth the effort! We're also happy to hear that Hector took good care of your group, and we appreciate your recommendation. It's always a pleasure to provide such memorable experiences, and we hope to see you again soon for more adventures!

I hiked Fuego and Acatenango with my friend with Brothers expeditions. Go on a week day, it’s crowded on the weekend. There was no running water at our cabin which isn’t a big deal. It’s hit and miss as to whether or not you’ll see the volcano while it’s active. The views were great (when there wasn’t people in the way). Also make sure you are properly prepared with a couple jackets, headlamp and water. I had to rent a headlamp for the price of a new one.
Response from Host, May 2025
Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback and helpful tips! We're glad you enjoyed the views and had the chance to experience such an epic hike. Your insights about the crowds, gear, and preparation are spot on and valuable for future adventurers. We’re sorry to hear about the inconvenience with the headlamp rental and running water at the cabin—we’ll definitely take this into account to improve the experience. We hope the power of the volcano and the adventure made it all worthwhile!

As a non hiker usually I was a little apprehensive after hearing this was one of the more challenging hikes. It was! We had Jose as our guide who was extremely helpful, patient and friendly. He looked after the group ensuring we were all together and arrange for porters to carry the luggage for those who were really struggling. The morning climb to see the sunrise was tough where the altitude hits you but sooo worth it once you get to the top! Would recommend this tour.
Response from Host, May 2025
Thank you for sharing your experience! We're so glad to hear that Jose made the hike more manageable and enjoyable for you. It's wonderful that his patience and support helped everyone stay together, especially with the altitude challenges. The sunrise views are definitely worth the effort, and we appreciate your recommendation! We hope to have the opportunity to guide you on another adventure in the future.

this is run through brothers expedition. Overall it was a good experience. The hike itself is extremely challenging physically and so i would be prepared for that.
We had 4 guides for a 20 person group which was good. On the way up they were very helpful and great. On the way down they were not as present but the group did get spread out a lot more. It is optional to do the volcan de fuego part as well as the morning hike and a guide stays at base camp with those that dont want to go. The food is basic and i would highly recommend bringing lots of snacks with. The biggest issue was language barrier. None of the guide spoke english so it was a little hard communicating but as a group with some strong/native Spanish speakers i was able to get by.
Response from Host, May 2025
Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We're glad to hear you had a good overall experience, even though the hike was physically challenging. We appreciate your feedback about the guides and the language barrier, and we'll work on improving communication for future tours. We're also grateful for your suggestion about bringing snacks and will consider this for our guests. We hope you still had a memorable time and look forward to the opportunity to guide you again!

The tour was well organized and the camp was just fine (low standard), we had cacao, coffee and pasta in the evening. The Organisation was not Guat Experience as we expected, it was the Brother‘s Expedition. We had a good communication beforehand via the app viator. They told us what to bring (i.e. sweets, toilet paper, water) and what is included (i.e. warm jackets, hat, gloves, a backpack could be rent for 7$). We booked an english guide but he only spoke spanish. He was pretty kind and funny but he didn‘t give any further information or facts about the volcano.
Response from Host, May 2025
Thank you for sharing your feedback! We're glad to hear that the tour was well organized and that you found the communication with us helpful. We're sorry to hear about the language barrier with the guide, and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We always aim to provide accurate language support, and we will review this issue to ensure we meet the needs of all our guests in the future. We appreciate your understanding and hope the experience was still memorable overall!

I chose this activity for my birthday celebration and I had a blast! Before the hike, GuatExperience Tours staff was helpful in answering my questions. At the Antigua office, they provide headlamps and trekking poles for rental. There is a bathroom for use here before the hour-long drive to the company’s second office near the trailhead.
At the second office, there is a bathroom, but you have to pay to use it. Here they provide hats, gloves, sweatshirts, and coats at no cost. You will need them for the top where the wind is relentlessly cold. I recommend leaving extra room in your backpack for an oversized, bulky sweatshirt. Also, ensure that you have brought at least 4 liters of water and extra quetzales to buy more water, electrolytes, and snacks (as needed) at a few of the rest spots. Some of them have bathrooms, but you will need your own toilet paper. The provided lunch was a hearty sandwich.
The hike itself is no joke for those that are not used to that elevation. Fortunately, our trail guide Osbin was patient and straightforward about the time we needed to make it to base camp in order to hike El Fuego in the evening. Prepare for at least four hours of constant uphill hiking before getting to your base camp. It is rustic and provides ample bedding. Don’t forget a pillow though!
The second hike to El Fuego is a must! Also uphill though slowly paced due to the sheer number of hikers on the trail. The sunset view is incredible and once the volcano starts erupting (quite often), it’s hard to look away. Once we got back down, Osbin prepared a fire and a vegetable sauce to go with the noodles for dinner.
The next day, you have the option of waking up at 3:30am to do a third hike to see the sunrise. Afterwards, a banana bread breakfast was provided and we left at base camp around 7:45am. Going down the mountain can be quite slippery at some spots. Osbin ensured that we all stayed together so no one was left behind. Overall, I highly recommend this activity and Osbin as the tour guide.

Thank you so much for spending your birthday with us and for sharing such a detailed and thoughtful review! 🎉 We’re thrilled to hear that you had a blast on this unforgettable adventure. It sounds like you came well-prepared and embraced every part of the journey—from the steep climb and cold winds to the awe-inspiring eruptions and sunrise views.
We're especially grateful for your kind words about Osbin—he's truly dedicated to making the hike safe, memorable, and enjoyable for everyone. Your tips about packing extra water, layers, and a pillow will definitely help future hikers prepare better!
We’re honored to have been a part of such a special occasion and hope to welcome you back for more adventures in the future. Happy belated birthday and thank you again for choosing us!

First off, the actual hike itself with the views of the volcanos is fantastic. However, I would strongly recommend against going with THIS company specifically. The tour guides did not speak any English (even though I selected preference for an English-speaking guide), they never communicated with the group what plans were for the day, they had no response to the freezing cold night that we had to spend in the rain (surely a fire could have been built), and both tour guides tried their hardest to rush all of the hiking group members to get to our destination as fast as possible––ignoring physical ability and safety. Overall, I was very disappointed with this tour experience, even if the natural landscape itself was absolutely amazing.

On of the The best experiences of my life. It is hard to climb but it worths. Our guide Minor was a great guy with his team. They carried all the meal to the base camp! Always supported us. Even carried one of the guests during the trail to help her while she was suffering. Highly appreciate it!

Although this group doesn’t have a lot of reviews, this tour was amazing. The lodging on top was pretty comfortable, along with the fact the view of Mt Fuego is amazing. Additionally, the tour guide made sure we arrived atop Fuego and Actatengo first before other groups, allowing us the best spots and pictures without the crowd

This was such an awesome trip. Brothers Expeditions did an awesome job. The hike to Acatenango is not easy but it’s totally worth it. Brothers expedition kept us in a beautiful cabin with arguably the greatest view of Fuego. We saw eruptions all night. We also did the challenging Fuego hike. My husband was struggling with the altitude a little so the guide stayed with him to make sure he was doing ok. Overall, I would recommend this trip to anyone and everyone. Good luck and enjoy : )
Alex_B, Nov 2021
What the problem was, was our guide, 75% of us walked at a similar pace and we were almost always together however, our guide made no effort to ever speak to us, and often wandered away by himself. The path is pretty simple to the top, but when it came to fuego at night he walked alone and left many people to clamber down the volcano by themselves, given the altitude (1500m ascent in a day) some people weren’t feeling great and were left in the dark.

This tour is a do not miss chance to see an active volcano, however they do not tell you , you have to carry all your equipment, food, water, and its 5 miles straight up, this is not for the un- fit,
Tommaso_C, Mar 2026
The tour itself is worth it, but Brother’s expedition is really bad. We didn't feel al we felt safe. There was not a moment when they told us what to expect, which is quite serious considering that people of all levels are participating. The group is at least 35/40 people, which makes it really difficult to coordinate.
In addition to poor and not very good food, the brothers expedition staff is not competent.
They ask you for money for anything: rackets, jackets, torch and they don’t tell you except in the message that arrives before. before booking they don’t tell you that there is an extra price to be paid locally in cash of 40 DOLLARS each to do the extra part that takes you to the volcano.
Base camp is nice but I think their camp is one of the worst. We only slept warm because my partner and I shared a sleeping bag and put two blankets on top
The most serious thing was the optional excursion to Fuego. Halfway through I started seeing flashes and told the guide it was going to rain, he (20 years old, clearly untrained) said not to worry. Halfway through it was raining and he insisted on taking us up in the rain, until we asked him if we would see the eruptions and he said he wasn't sure. At that point we split up and some went down halfway, others continued with the guide but were forced to go down due to poor visibility and bad weather.
We climbed the mountain in the rain at night with torches (which we brought only because we read other tours) to return to the camp, halfway we and 4 other people realized that the brothers had left us behind and we were picked up by a guide of another very kind group who took us back to base camp safely. Truly a horrible experience and I am sorry because the place is really worth it. I read there are better companies to go with.

8. Domki, wyżywienie to oczywiście kwestia subiektywna - bez komentarza.
Komentarz:

A very good experience and an incredible tour, our accompanying guide was Jonathan a very patient guide who goes to the rhythm of the group, at all times is aware of how you feel, supports you and explains if they have any doubts, likewise motivates and encourages you to follow, a very great guide, super recommended to climb with him. I would climb again as we climbed to the summit of Acatenango by a majority of votes, I would still have to return by the volcano of fire.
