Tour operator kept us informed of time changes to the tour and meeting location. Our tour guide was lovely and she had lots of information regarding our drive. The were several stops for viewing Fjords and lovely scenery. The switchbacks were daunting and breathtaking. Our driver was super skilled rounding these curves (a bit of a nail biter). Plenty of time at the different stops.

We hesitantly booked this tour when we couldn't figure out what we wanted to do at this port stop and we ended up being blown away! This was the most gorgeous drive with scenery that pictures cannot do justice to. There were a great number of stops to break up the drive and we saw a bunch of cool things. Would absolutely do it again.

Great Troll / waterfall tour

debbie_k, Oct 2025
Great troll / waterfall tour. Driver was awesome on the very steep and winding road. She made it look and seem easy. Driver gave great commentary. And loved her little troll stories!

This day blew us away!

The bus was Filthy

Craig_F, Sep 2025
The guide was very nice, but the bus was filthy. It was a sunny day and the windows were all streaked. You could Not see anything through them. The guide would say to look at something and we could Not see it. The tray at the seat was filthy also. I have pictures that I would post if I could. Of course stopping at Trollstigen was Amazing, but the trip to get there was terrible.

Bus was terrible

Lela_L, Sep 2025
While the tour itself was very good, the bus that we were taken in had zero visibility for most of the right side windows (which were the most scenic views) and the side we were seated on. This bus should be put out to pasture. For the price we paid this was a huge disappointment.

Amazing scenery

Linda_M, Aug 2025
Beautiful scenery. winding roads and TROLLS make this a fun experience as well as seeing the country other than the towns.

Beautiful

Diane_P, Aug 2025
It was a wonderful tour, beautiful scenery, and waterfalls. Our tour guide was wonderful. She did a great job of telling us what time to be back. Everybody was back on time and she was very knowledgeable of the area.

Gorgeous

Kim_R, Aug 2025
All in all it was a gorgeous and beautiful tour, but not at all what we were expecting. Would definitely recommend if you want some beautiful scenery.

Pity the Troll Pass was shut

Richard_K, Jul 2025
Very good tour up through the mountains, unfortunately the Troll Pass was closed due to a landslide that said very enjoyable good lady guide,

Great way to see much of the Norwegian countryside. Tour guide was very knowledgeable of the area and took us to some amazing viewpoints. It was unfortunate that part of the road was closed to a rock slide so we didn’t get to go further.

Tours in Norway not worth the $$$

Robert_B, Jun 2025
Tour guide told a coupe of cute stories--but front door on bus didn't work, making it very difficult for my handicapped wife to get off and back on during the 6 stops. Plus--nearly 80 degrees and air conditioner on the bus didn't work either. Don't let "land of the trolls" mislead you--nothing special about trolls.

Great tour! Highly recommend.

TERESA_Y, Jun 2025
Small group, great tour, highly recommend! It was so beautiful and well organized. Elizabeth was an amazing guide!

Beautiful scenery, but...

Mary_G, Jun 2025
Beautiful scenery, but missed half of trail due to closer of road, wish there were more explanation of trolls am legend.

All around, great tour!

DENISE_C, Jun 2025
Great tour. Beautiful locations. It was a small group and a great guide. Good directions on finding the group.

Nice tour but don't go on a National Holiday.

Kathy_P, May 2025
Our guide was very knowledgeable and learned a lot about Norway. The weather was perfect, sunny and cool. We stopped at Gudbrandsjuvet where there is a nice waterfall and a great photo opportunity. I highly recommend to use the bathroom facilities here because the ones at the Trollstigen Plateau are not as good. We were hoping that we would be able to get some strawberries at Valldal, but apparently in mid-May when we went, they were not ripe yet. My recommendation would be to put a note in your "what to expect" to say when the strawberries would be in season. The Trollstigen Road was still closed when we went, so we were unable to go back down the road. Also the day that we went way their national holiday and most everything was closed. The only other complaint that I would have is there wasn't enough time to fully enjoy and walk out for a better view at the Trollstigen Plateau. This tour is around 6 hours. I think they need to make it longer so that you have more time to take pictures and shop.

Beautiful

Sue_N, Nov 2024
Our bus driver did an excellent job. Excellent Tour. What a Beautiful Country. We saw Breathtaking views.

All I can say is I took the excursion

Annemarie_C, Oct 2024
It was a chilly, dreary and drizzly day. You couldn’t see anything. Because of the weather, we couldn’t travel the Troll Road. We didn’t see any Trolls. We didn’t see any breathtaking views. The Tourist Center was closed. Perhaps on another day. But it was a bust. Of course that’s at due to Mother Nature. So it just made for an average excursion.

Good Tour with a Bad Description

Erin_P, Oct 2024
The Land of Trolls sightseeing tour offered us a beautiful opportunity to see this area of Norway. It included stops at waterfalls , mountain tops, and a lovely spot with views for lunch. Sometimes the views were obstructed by the rain and clouds but that’s the reality of Norway. There were a couple of issues which included the closure of the road with the hairpin turns. It has been this way since June 2024 and is indefinite for at least the next year or so. So the description is not accurate. Our tour guide was lackluster. He could have used our time together by providing more information about the area’s geography and the lifestyles of its inhabitants.

Tour not as described

Robert_L, Oct 2024
I travelled to Ålesund on 5th October 2024 aboard the Caribbean Princess cruise ship. The cruise line did not offer a shore excursion to Trollstigen, so I booked with Viator. The description of Viator’s "Trollstigen - Land of Trolls sightseeing tour" featured a stunning photograph of 11 hairpin bends on the Trollstigen road. It mentioned "magnificent views from the photo stop at Trollstigen Plateau" and said, “Food and drinks can be bought in the shop/cafeteria" [at the Plateau]. It also listed other photo stops at Kokarsteinen, Gudbrandsjuvet, Stigfossen Waterfall and the Troll Wall/Trollvegen. I booked the tour on 14th September. The booking confirmation and subsequent emails from Viator did not mention any changes and their message, timed at 08:48 on 4th October confirmed the itinerary. But less than three hours later, a final email said, “Probably many of you have heard it already, but the Trollstigen Road is closed. Yet, do not despair! The so called Trollstigen Road is only one stretch of the road. The tour is still running as we reach the viewpoint that is on top of the road from the south. You'll still see all the sights (except, unfortunately, the Trollwall) and have a wonderful view of the road even if you won't be driving through it.” As far as the tour was concerned, some of the scenery was spectacular. However, I chose this tour, because I really wanted to see and experience the descent through the hairpins on the Trollstigen road. Unfortunately, the weather was really unpleasant at the Trollstigen Plateau with strong winds and driving sleet. I couldn’t even see any part the closed roadway and the coach couldn't visit the Stigefossen Waterfall or the Trollwall. Furthermore, everything at the plateau was closed, including the shop/cafeteria and the public restrooms. I subsequently discovered that the Trollstigen Road had actually been closed since 12th June, due to the risk of rockslides. The tour operators must have known about the closure, when they accepted my reservation. So why didn’t Viator advise me about the closure until it was too late for me to make alternative arrangements for my visit to Ålesund? Viator’s booking conditions offer a full refund for cancellations at least 24 hours in advance of the start time of the experience. If I had known about the road closure, I would have cancelled. However, notification of the change arrived less than 24 hours before departure.

Mountain trip that was changed due to snow on the upper mountian road.

Pamela_S, Oct 2024
Unfortunately the upper road to the scenic point was closed due to snow. The tour leader said we would receive a refund for the tour. The coach was to leave the cruise pier at noon. The tour leader said we had to wait a little while to see if the road could be cleared and the tour would continue as described. It was raining and I didn't want to stand outside so she allowed us to wait in one of the buses. At 1300 there was still no word that the road was open. She told us to wait a little longer and they would know in the next 15 minutes if we could use the upper mountain road. At 1330 she told use that the road still wasn't open and we could stay with the tour knowing there would be a shortened trip and we would receive a partial refund. What we did see once we got out of the city was nice. I would not recommend this trip for visitors in October. Please send me my refund

ALESUND TO 🧌

Kay_S, Oct 2024
Fabulous day, even though the weather was not great. We had a new bus with comfy seats and a lady bus driver who was very confident driving up the mountain roads which recently had snow on it. The tour guide was very informative and had good English. Very good value for the price

Pretty good.

John_W, Oct 2024
Not their fault but the trip was only partial due to snow. Then the bus broke down but another one arrived in 45 minutes. Luckily had plenty of time before the ship left. But the views were awesome.

Amazing scenery in foul weather

ViatorPortCruiseTour, Oct 2024
Great tour guide. Made best of foul weather day to show beautiful area of Norway. Despite cold rain and clouds traveling through the are was amazing. Recommend this tour regardless of weather

Almost perfect

Sharie_S, Oct 2024
We had a great tour. Due to snow on the final party of our journey, our tour was altered. Don't do this tour the last week of September. Apparently that's winter in Norway. I understand this was no one's fault but it was disappointing that we didn't make it to Trollstigen or get to travel all those hair pin turns. However Cian made the tour well worth it. He was full of fun facts and knowledge. We still saw many beautiful sights, more than I could have possibly seen on my own. And our driver Anika was a Puerto and made us feel very safe on the same narrow roads. Overall it was as close to perfect as could be.

Beautiful

Laura_H, Oct 2024
We were disappointed that the road was closed due to show but had a nice time otherwise. Our bus broke down on the way back but the company quickly got another bus to take us. The views of the fjords and waterfalls on this trip were absolutely amazing.

Cancelled but informed

Bruce_R, Oct 2024
The trip was canceled due to snow blocking the highway. I applied for a refund. Just waiting to see if it is refunded. But the guides were very informative about the conditions and change of venue available.

Tour in Trollstigen

Katherine_N, Sep 2024
The road was closed so they took us to different route, the sights were just ok, I don’t think it worth the money

Land of the trolls

Edna_T, Sep 2024
It was a wonderful experience. We got lucky with the weather and was able to see the hairpin bends. It is worth the travel.
