    Waste of time and money

    aerton_a, Nov 2025
On Monday, September 29, 2025, a companion and I had a tour which I booked and paid for through Viator. This tour is the Drumheller Tour Royal Tyrell Museum Shared Tour operated by Abestx, a tour which was confirmed both by Viator and the operator the day before it was scheduled to take place. On Monday the 29th, we met with the driver at the agreed location, then we went to meet with other participants of the tour. However, once we had already started the tour, the other participants told us that at their hotel they had been informed that the museum is not open on Mondays. When we checked the museum’s official website, we realized that this information was correct. So then… What are we supposed to do if the tour had already started? We couldn’t just get out of the vehicle if we were already far from the city, we couldn’t stay in the middle of the road. Why offer and sell us a tour to a museum if you cannot deliver what you are offering? Why did nobody inform us of this before starting the tour? That information was not in the tour description, nor in the confirmation email, nor anywhere else. Once a tour is booked through Viator, the local operator must verify availability and the conditions to provide the service. Why did the operator confirm the tour if it was not in a condition to fulfill it? In our tour itinerary it literally says: “Tickets for the Royal Tyrell Museum will be distributed on the bus.” How could they distribute them if no tickets could be purchased because the museum would be closed? Either they already knew it was closed, or they never actually planned to take us to the museum. After this, in order to fill the time we would not spend at the museum, we were taken to different places which honestly we were not interested in visiting, since the only reason we booked this tour was to visit the museum. In fact, the tour is called “Drumheller Tour Royal Tyrell Museum Shared Tour” and we only booked it because we wanted to visit that museum. Therefore, if we paid to be taken to that museum and we were not taken there, then I did not receive the service I paid for. It is like going to a restaurant, ordering a steak, and being served a dish without the steak, only with rice, and still being charged for the steak. Does that make sense? Finally, as an improvised way to fill the time, we were taken to the Star Mine Suspension Bridge, which was also CLOSED. Then we were taken to the East Coulee School Museum, which we did not enter because we were not interested and it also required an additional fee that the tour operator was not willing to pay, even though the tickets for the Royal Tyrrell Museum were supposed to be included in the tour price. After that, we were taken to the Atlas Coal Mine National Historic Site, but we could not enter either because an additional fee was also required, which the operator would not pay and neither would we. The issue is not paying the fee, but why should we have to pay extra for a service we did not ask for? Nobody asked us if we wanted to go to those places. We had already paid a lot of money to visit the museum, and yet we were never taken there. And to finish, we were taken to the World’s Largest Dinosaur, which was ironically also CLOSED. As an extra detail, while in the vehicle we looked up information about the agency, and according to one of their own previous comments, they already knew the museum is closed on Mondays, because they had faced the same issue a few weeks earlier. Yet they still did not mention this in their tour listing.

Thank you for your kind feedback! We sincerely apologize we were also not informed about the closure, which is why the driver-guide offered alternative stops. He mentioned that you really enjoyed the trip and even sent us a photo of you having a great time. We have also provided you with a partial refund for the tour that same day. We're sorry that the museum was closed on Monday, and we hope to take you there next time! Please note that we are a small local business, and we are continuously doing our best to provide good service to our travellers. We appreciate your understanding and hope you continue to share kindness from your heart. Have a blessed day!

    Not a happy bunny.

The tour did not happen. They cancelled on me TWICE: 1. the bus has broken down (6 days before the tour) Surprised that they could not repair the bus, or replace instead of which the tour was cancelled.-unbelievable and a lame excuse. 2. Sorry, you are the only one so its not economical for us. This just the late evening before travel. There was no time for me to book anything else-it was all booked. The options they offered were not ok for me as a senior citizen. As an International traveler who had booked months in advance, my Calgary day was completely ruined with no option except perhaps do things I really had no mind to or no mood for. To be fair, they refunded me completely but that's not the point. It costs a lot to travel to Canada from my country, timewise too. I will think a lot before I book with them again. They owe me big time.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback we really appreciate it. We’d like to clarify that we didn’t cancel you specifically it’s possible that your first booking was handled by a different Viator supplier. In this case, we unfortunately had to cancel your booking with us because we didn’t meet the minimum number of passengers required for the shared shuttle. We notified you in advance so you’d have time to make alternate arrangements. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this caused and understand it may have fallen short of your expectations. As a small business, operating a shared trip with only one passenger wouldn’t cover the travel costs, but please know our goal is always to provide great service while keeping our operations sustainable. We truly hope to have the chance to serve you again and make your next experience a much better one. Have a great day!
