Instructions to Meet Your Guide at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport: If your pick-up location is at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, follow these simple steps to find your guide upon arrival: Exit the Terminal Building: After collecting your luggage, walk straight out of the terminal towards the car parking lot. Spot the Elevated Roadway: As you walk, look to your left-hand side, where you'll see a large elevated road supported by pillars. Locate the Guide Under the Bend: Follow the road as it curves to the left. Your guide will be waiting for you right under this bend in the elevated roadway. Look for Your Name Sign: The guide will hold a sign with your name for easy identification. To make it even easier, refer to the photos included with this tour, which show the exact meeting location with the guide.

Biruk, our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and really provided good options to see in the time constraint that we had. The driver was also extremely good. They picked us up from where I was staying, which was not a conventional hotel, without any problem. We went to the National Museum, Mt Entoto where we saw a great view of the city and had a traditional coffee ceremony with food. We drove by the market and went to Holy Trinity Cathedral. It was the Muskel celebration day, so he also gave us perspective there-was a great experience before having to fly out that night.

We had such a wonderful day exploring Addis Ababa with Merit Ethiopian Experience Tours. Our guide, Biruk, was fantastic—friendly, knowledgeable, and very flexible. Even though we arrived late, he was so kind and patient, waiting for us without any issue.
One of the great advantages of this tour is that the driver is separate from the guide, which made transportation smooth and convenient. We were able to get dropped off right at the sights and picked up again easily without any hassle.
Our day included a visit to the Palace Museum, where we learned about past Ethiopian rulers, and a stop at a local home for the traditional coffee ceremony. Getting to participate in the process ourselves was a real highlight and gave us such a personal connection to the culture.
We also appreciated being able to customize our day. Biruk helped us fit in our own preferred stops and even arranged for a late lunch at a skybar restaurant, which was the perfect ending to the tour.
Overall, this experience gave us a true taste of the people, history, and culture of Ethiopia. We left feeling enriched and grateful. Highly recommend!

We had a just under 8 hour stop in Addis Ababa on the way to Kilimanjaro, and decided not to take the chances on the Ethiopian Airlines stopover that requires at least 8 hours. Instead we got a tourist visa beforehand and arranged a driver and guide for a full-day tour of Addis Ababa here.
The pickup was easy and from the jump our driver and our guide Biruk were a joy to be with. Biruk was full of information about his beautiful city, and we were able to see everything we wanted to, and get an excellent local meal to boot (and don't forget the coffee at Tomoco on Wawel St.!). Would heartily recommend to anyone with some time to kill in the capital, or those planning a trip there outright. We'll be back!

My trip to Addis Ababa was a fantastic experience, made even better by my guide, Biruk. His knowledge, friendliness, and ability to navigate the city’s bustling streets made the journey smooth and insightful.
The highlight of the trip was definitely the Merkato market, one of the largest open-air markets in Africa.
Another unforgettable moment was the traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony. Watching the process, from roasting the beans to the rich aroma filling the room, was one to remember. The coffee itself was incredible.

We booked the full day private city tour of Addis Ababa, there was great communication before the day via email/whatsapp. The day before we were sent a message with Biruk (our guide) telephone number so we could communicate on the day.
Biruk arrived on time at our hotel reception and we started the tour, his knowledge and expertise was outstanding and he taught us a lot about Addis. During the tour we visited the Central Market, this market is very large and Biruk navigated us through the winding streets and we went in a local small tea shop which was a great experience. We also visited the Museum, St George’s Cathedral, Palace of Emperor Mellenek. We were given full explanations and the history of each venue visited as well as whilst driving through the city.
The highlight of the tour was without a doubt the Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony & Lunch. We went to a local ladies house in the hills surrounding Addis, we were made to fell very welcome and one of the family. During the coffee preparations, we were served a lovely Ethiopian lunch with honey wine (non alcoholic) and a locally brewed liquor. The various stages of the coffee preparation was explained including washing, roasting, grounding the beans and then making the actual coffee. The coffee really was the best I’ve tasted.

You will need local birr as there are some places that require an entrance fee and the family hosting for lunch and coffee ceremony deserve a tip for their amazing hospitality

This was a GREAT TOUR. Biruk was our tour guide and he was very knowledgeable about the Ethiopian culture. He was kind and patient. He assisted us in getting better prices on gifts we purchased. I love this guys spirit. You can tell he loves his job. We are from the US and all the things we learned about Ethiopia were false, go and see for yourself. First, my guide, Biruk was very good. He was friendly and knowledgeable and very pleasant. As was the driver, Addis.
However, the tour description clearly said it included an air-conditioned car. When I asked them to turn it on, they clearly were a bit confused as to how to even use it, and then it turns out it that the aircon didn't work and only blew out hot air.
With the windows closed, it was very hot in the car, with the windows open, we were constantly choked by exhaust fumes and dust from passing buses and trucks. This made the trip unpleasant.
Also, the description also said that the coffee ceremony and lunch was included. At the end of this however, my guide suggested I leave the woman a generous tip. I generally have no problem leaving a tip but you should say clearly that tipping is expected and not included. I tipped the guide and driver and expected to do that, but I would have expected that they would have tipped the coffee woman. Especially for how much I paid for the day.

I landed at 7AM & was picked up by tour guide at the airport. It was a great way to spend my 1st day in the city! I didn't have to worry about how to get a ride to my hotel and I was able to learn A LOT about the history of Ethiopia in just a few hours while I visited churches, museums, and palaces. Great city Tour. We wanted to experience the "Real Ethiopia", and we enjoyed the coffee ceremony in a private home. Biruk was a good and flexible guide, so he took us om a walk thru the Village on Entoto. An interesting experience. Also Merkato was nice.

Henok was a very informative and knowledgeable tour guide. We enjoyed the entire experience, but the highlight was the stop on Entoto mountain, seeing the monkies and sharing a delicious meal with coffee ceremony. Great overall experience!

Abenezer was a great guide and was able to hit all the spots we were interested in Addis Ababa plus a few other wonderful locations that weren't even on our radar. The van and driver provided were a great addition that made things very easy. His English is also very good making asking complex questions and requests easy. Very flexible tour based on our interests. I would highly recommend.

We had 24 hours in Addis and specifically chose this tour to experience the best parts of the city. Biruk was an amazing guide who shared his deep knowledge about the history and culture of the city and the country with such joy and passion. Our driver was amazingly skilled and patient. Wow, what can I say, Biruk (guide) and Sirak (driver) are the best guide team around…I don’t know where to start! And we’ve used several other Viator guides for comparison. They both combine the most important qualities you can have from a guide — as a team, they are super knowledgeable about all aspects of Ethiopian culture, from history to food to art and anything we asked them about. They were extremely flexible with our schedule and itinerary, patient with our requests, even accommodating last minute changes. What meant the most to me is how passionate they were about their jobs as guides and their love of Ethiopia, going above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful experience and experience the warmth of the people. We even got to make new Ethiopian friends because of them. As a team, Biruk and Sirak complement each other really well. I will really miss them a lot, but I look forward to seeing them again, and have them show us things outside of Addis Ababa next time into different parts of the country. I couldn’t recommend them more!

Outstanding tour, both the guide (Biruk) and the driver(forgotten his name) were friendly, knowledgeable and flexible. They allowed us to prioritise what we wanted to see and gave us the time and space to investigate things for ourselves. It is the best way to get around and see Addis Ababa and allows you to enjoy some of the chaos rather than be overwhelmed by it.
