I was most impressed by both my guide Shasha and the driver His (unsure of spelling, pronounce hees). I was the only one who signed up for the day, so it was a solo tour. They picked me ups at my guesthouse and we drove all over the city visiting the Ethnological Museum, the palace of King Mendelik !,, the National Museum on the lovely campus of the University of Addis Ababa where I was thrilled to see Lucy's skeletal remains. The entire Paleontological displays were beautifully presented and very interesting. I learned a lot about the country, which has been predominantly Christian from 330 AD and is the only one which has never been colonized although it was occupied by Italian Fascists from 1937 - 1941. The Emperor Haile Selassie and his consort were impressive people and restored a number of building (such as St George's Cathedral which had been burned to the ground by the Italian regime. I visited Holy Trinity Church and the museum. A highlight was to go up the mountain and look over the entire city. We had a little time so went to a coffeee shop and had samosas. Lunch was traditional style in a local place where I observed a tea ceremony. The day ended with a traditional meal which I thoroughly enjoyed, and they had some dancing and singing at the restaurant, before taking me back to the airport. I would certainly recommend this tour, and especially my guide who was genuinely courteous and informative with excellent English. The driver was awesome. The traffic was a real challenge, but he came through skillfully with no scares along the way.
