Excellent tour with Robert

We had an overall excellent experience on our tour of Edinburgh Castle! Our tour guide, Robert, was fantastic and funny. He was incredibly knowledgeable, and his enthusiasm really made the experience that much more enjoyable. You could tell he truly loves what he does, and he had a great way of bringing the castle’s history to life while keeping everyone entertained. My husband and I both really enjoyed the tour and learned so much along the way. It was definitely one of the highlights of our time in Edinburgh! We would absolutely recommend this tour, especially if you’re lucky enough to have Robert as your guide. We also booked our tour at noon and found out the cannon at the castle goes off at 1pm every day so that was really cool to see.

Very Good Tour to Start Our Trip to Edinburgh

We enjoyed learning about the history of the area. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. I only wish we had the time included in the tour to see inside the castle. It was very busy and we did not realize the time for the tour did not include inside the castle. The tour does include access inside the castle walls. It would take another 2 hours minimum to see inside the castle and surrounding buildings.

After four stops within the castle, the tour was over and we were left to explore all of the exhibits on our own. Viator does simplify booking tours, but adds another layer of cost to each tour.

Unforgettable!

What an amazing day! I’m so glad I decided to do this excursion. Even though it was a 12-hour day, it honestly didn’t feel that long! The views were absolutely breathtaking, and the stops along the way were incredible. The only downside was that the bus was completely full with 56 people, so it felt a little cramped at times. Our tour guide, Terry Marie, was fantastic—very knowledgeable, friendly, and personable. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience, and I would definitely recommend this tour!

Check in was fast and easy with clear direction. Brian was a terrific driver with intimate knowledge of the area, folklore and anecdotes of each place we stopped (who knew Johnny Cash had ties to the area and visited Fife often?!) Saw very interesting sites and am glad we chose this tour.

There is a lot to take in...

There is a lot to take in about the history of the castle. To appreciate the tour more I suggest reading some of this beforehand. Also be prepared for lots of people from many other tour groups. The guide did a good job of speaking loudly enough for people to hear but in some areas of the castle it was very congested.

Great tour

The trip was wonderful. Holly was a great driver and guide. She was funny and had a lot of info and history to share as we visited each location. We were able to meet some heilan coo’s, see the Jacobite train passing, and more. The only part that sucked was at the stops the lines were very long for breakfast/coffee, but if you can skip that, lunch is the next stop. So I would have spent more time with the cows had I known better. The long drive on the bus did not feel very long due to the interactive driver.

Exactly What We Were Looking For

This is a great tour. It shows you beautiful scenes across the Highlands at a fantastic value. While it's a long day with a lot of driving, your driver will keep things interesting with interesting tidbits about Scottish culture, history, and the sites. It never gets overbearing, with plenty of downtime on the longer elements of the drive. Had we tried to get a similar view of the Highlands any other way, we'd have spent far more money and not had nearly as good of an experience. I'd highly recommend bringing snacks because there's a long period between the start of the trip and the stop in a village with lunch options in mid-afternoon. You'll make a few stops at particularly scenic spots, and at cute hospitality towns along the way. We took the boat tour, which was a nice, casual break in the day. A huge shout-out to our driver Brian Smith. He's extremely charming and funny with just the right energy for the tour. I've taken plenty of tours on other trips, and I think I like Brian the most of any guide I've had.

As someone who has always...

As someone who has always wanted to see the Scottish Highlands, this trip did not disappoint me. It is a long day, however the bus ride was engaging and scenery was worth the drive. Our tour guide Stephen was very knowledgeable and was very clear with communication throughout which was helpful in making sure we maintained our itinerary. If I return to Scotland I would definitely consider taking another tour with this company.

This was an excellent opportunity to have a better understanding of Edinburgh and the significance of this beautiful castle. Glenn was our Tour Guide and he was entertaining and knowledgeable. After about 1 hr 30 min of interesting information we had plenty of time to explore more on our own. Would definitely recommend for a good jumpstart to your holiday.
