Years ago, locals used to have monkeys as pets, but they were very jealous and territorial, so they would act out if you gave more attention to another pet or even your own kid! This is why they now live in these special shelters. This shelter rotates the sloths that travelers come across around every 4 hours so they are always well-rested! We will visit communities from different ethnic groups. A true local myself, I'm part of one of 9 different ethnic groups on our island, which include people from Latin America, Africa, and Europe. We'll drive through Los Fuertes, the biggest Latino community in Roatan, and visit Punta Gorda, where the Garifuna community lives. Some Garifonas start their day fishing in the early morning, and return hours later to sell their catches!

Sloth sanctuary and beach tour

Ricky was a superb tour guide. He lived on the island and gave a great perspective to living there. The sanctuary was very cool and it was fun having the monkeys and parrots on our heads. The beach was lovely. Great food and the water was perfect. Enjoyed seeing the colorful fish by the coral wall.

Best Time in Roatan

Jessica was truly amazing!!! She told us all about the local culture, and the different flora and fauna. Not only was Jessica the absolute best, but so we're the experiences!!! I've never been so happy as I was surrounded by some truly incredible animals. The beach we went to was also absolutely beautiful!!! We will definitely be booking again and telling everyone we know to do the same!!!

Fantastic Experience!!!!

What a great experience. Booking was a breeze on Viator. We left the ship and followed the directions out of the port and we were met by the someone from the company who checked us in and introduced us to our guide for the day. After a short walk with our guide we got into her car and we were escorted to the sites for the day. Kaylie our guide was a blast. Shared information about the island and also was very personal giving us a look and feel into how the locals live and work on the island. We really felt like we built a connection. The animal sanctuary, (David our guide was excellent), the chocolate factory where we tasted and met the manger who personally helped with some local infused cigars, and the rum tasting, were all very enjoyable. On the way back we stopped for a local beer and pictures at the Roatan sign. Truly a 5 star experience.!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!

Highly Recommend!

This tour with our private driver JJ (Jason) was excellent! It was easy to find the tour company outside of the port and JJ immediately took us to our excursions. He took us to the Roatan sign, gas station for snacks, and all of our excursions. I loved that we could spend as much or as little time at each place and didn’t have to wait on anyone else. The rum and chocolate places were nice and informative. The animal sanctuary didn’t last long because one of the monkeys ALMOST attacked my 6 year old daughter so I wouldn’t recommend this place. However the ATV activity made up for it and was the highlight of our trip. Our tour lasted about 4 hours and I loved seeing different parts of the island and learning so much from JJ. I would highly recommend!

Boom! Yes! Yay, & Woo!

Definitely take this experience if you are going to Roatan via plane/ship/otherwise. Our personal and PRIVATE driver ,Rennien (Renie) Debbe, was accommodating beyond words. His local knowledge was like having a tour guide, he then just like "hung out" at the beach with some of his colleagues while we did our thing. Always available and periodically checking on us, he made sure we had the best time. And then took us to get delicious chicken & nachos & nuggets at this local place w/ a super awesome view & amazing service. He even managed our experience to ensure we were back to the cruise ship with plenty of time to do whatever we wanted with 0-stress!!!! Seriously, take this experience... Very nice knowledgeable...

Very nice knowledgeable tour guide. He took such good care of us the entire trip! The animals were so friendly! We loved this tour. I do suggest once getting off ship and being in the hustle of the locals trying to sell tours just say K2!! It’s overwhelming but once we met our tour guide he took amazing care of us.

Our driver was Emmanuel who was very knowledgeable about the island. We were the first at the animal park and really enjoyed the animals there. It was raining so I didn't snorkel, but my husband did and he said it was great, still saw a lot of fish! Highly recommend this tour and Emmanuel!

Perfect excursion for cruisers or anyone

We booked out excursion here rather than through Royal Caribbean, and I’m so glad we did. The trip was about half the price of what we would have paid booking a similar excursion through the cruise line, and the experience was fantastic. Our guide explained that booking directly also means more of the money actually stays with the local tour company and guides rather than a large portion going to the cruise line, which made us even happier with our decision. Finding them was much easier than I expected. We simply walked out of the main cruise port gate and asked where Gate 1 was. Everyone we encountered was happy to point us in the right direction. Our group was smaller, which made the whole experience feel much more personal. The bus was very nice, comfortable, well air-conditioned, and even had chargers. Our guide, Ria/Rita, was friendly, knowledgeable, a great driver, and made us feel completely safe throughout the day. The sloth and monkey sanctuary was wonderful, and the beach was beautiful. I didn’t snorkel myself, but others said the snorkeling was great as well. What really set ROA Adventures apart, though, was how they treated us when things didn’t go according to plan. My daughter became ill during the excursion, and our guide went completely out of the way to make sure she could get back to the ship as quickly as possible—even though doing so added at least an hour of extra driving round-trip. There was no hesitation; they simply took care of us. Then my mom realized she had left her water bottle behind. Amazingly, they made that long drive AGAIN just to bring her water bottle back to the ship! That level of kindness and customer service is something you don’t forget. We got a smaller, more personal tour, paid about half of what we would have through the cruise line, felt safe and well cared for, and had a company that genuinely went above and beyond for our family. I would book with ROA Adventures again in a heartbeat. If you’re visiting Roatán on a cruise, I highly recommend booking directly with them. They absolutely earned this five-star review!

Loved it

A very nice young man came to walk us about 5 minutes to the location. He then showed us where the bathrooms were at and he then took us to free lockers. Then he took us to a truck that takes you up the mountain which is an adventure within its self. Then there are 4 guides that will talk to you about safety before the fun begins. All of them were amazing. From there you go to the zoo where again you will meet more amazing people , monkeys, sloth and birds. We truly enjoyed it all.

Amazing Mother-Daughter Experience—Safe, Personal, and Unforgettable!

My teenage daughter and I had a wonderful experience on the Monkey, Sloth, and Drift Snorkel Tour in Roatán! It was just the two of us, and we felt completely safe and comfortable throughout the entire excursion. Meeting our guide just outside the cruise port was easy, and we had our own private driver. He was courteous, friendly, and knowledgeable. Our guide at the monkey and sloth sanctuary was amazing—welcoming, informative, and patient. He answered all our questions and made sure we each had plenty of time interacting with the animals. Our snorkeling guide was also wonderful. He explained everything clearly and helped ease any anxiety we had about snorkeling in the ocean, making us feel safe and confident. The entire experience was well organized, personal, and enjoyable from beginning to end. My daughter and I made incredible memories, and I would absolutely recommend this tour—especially to mothers traveling alone with their children or teenagers!
