Shoutout to Melanie, our tour guide, who did a great job. She gave us clear instructions regarding the commute to Versailles and repeated it multiple times so everyone was aware. Some of the rooms in the palace were crowded, especially the smaller rooms, but Melanie did a wonderful job giving us the highlights of the palace's history. Afterwards, we were able to explore the gardens on our own. We walked around for hours and was able to explore Petite Trianon and the Hamlet.

Mont Saint Michele was amazing! The tour bus was clean and comfortable with a stop each way to use the toilet and buy a snack, the tour guide gave some interesting history about the region on the way there and great recommendations for Paris on the way back. Once off the bus it was all free time on the Mont which was perfect for this location, you can climb the stairs at your own pace and use the audio guide for explanations of what you are looking at. Would have liked a bit more time at the Mont, but given the lengthy drive there and back it would be challenging to do so in a single day trip from Paris.

A fascinating tour in which history comes alive
The D-Day Beaches experience is simply not to be missed. The bus is roomy and comfortable; the trip includes WiFi access with charging outlets for each passenger. The excursion begins with a three-hour ride to Utah beach, with a rest stop along the way. Our English-speaking guide provided informative historical context and commentary throughout the day; BTW, he was also quite funny! At Utah beach, you will walk the beach (tide willing) as well as having plenty of time to explore the wonderful museum, built from a German bunker, that tells the complete story of the D-day invasion with exhibits providing in-depth information about the role of the armies, navies, and air forces of all the Allied nations. Individual tributes are well-integrated in the museum, including the roles played by the Comanche code-talkers, the French resistance, and many, many others. There is a B-26 Marauder on site, as well as other equipment used during the battle. The next stop is the Pointe du Hoc, the battlefield where 225 American Army rangers climbed high cliffs to neutralize the massive gun emplacements that could have destroyed the D-day landing beaches. This memorial has been largely left as it was, with the bunkers and huge shell-pits from the Allied naval bombardments still intact. After the Point du Hoc comes lunch in a charming Norman restaurant with a choice of entrees and good Norman cider. After lunch comes Omaha beach, a huge, walkable sandy beach with nice memorials. The last stop of the tour is a solemn and emotional visit to the American cemetery, where over 9,000 graves provide silent witness to the sacrifice of the young men, and several young women, who fell to provide us with our freedom. We arrived in time to witness the daily ceremony during which Taps is played, the American and French flags are lowered, folded, and carefully placed in a special repository. This is a wonderful and moving excursion suitable for all.

Champagne bubbles experience
We did a Champagne day trip from Paris with HP as our guide, and it was truly exceptional. He was incredibly knowledgeable and shared so much insight about the region and the winemaking process. HP arranged visits to two wonderful Champagne producers — one a large, well‑known house and the other a small, family‑run estate — giving us a perfect contrast in styles and traditions. We enjoyed a delicious lunch at a fantastic local restaurant, where we were able to try even more Champagnes with our meal. The entire experience was seamless, memorable, and one of the highlights of our trip to France. Highly recommend this tour and HP as a guide.

While it's tempting to spend your entire French vacation in Paris, the city is located within commuting distance of so many major highlights and landmarks that it's worth venturing beyond city limits. Your options for Paris day trips can be customized to fit your interests: History buffs can venture to the World War II landmarks of Normandy; architecture fans can visit the many grand châteaux surrounding the city; and wine lovers have some of the world's most celebrated vineyards within reach.
