You do have to be fit somewhat to do this because it is a true 6 mile or more hike, walk. I enjoyed it so much walking in the footsteps of Vincent Van Gogh was just incredible.!
What a beautiful town, and Victor was very knowledgeable, friendly, graceful guide.
I learned so much about Vincent van Gogh, and the stages of troubled life as well as his amazing talent. I highly recommend this tour !

Lots of history packed into a short time frame -and all told in such interesting fashion. Lovely & charming areas maintained closely to what they must have looked like back when Van Gogh lived there

Spent an excellent half day with Victor in Aug 2025. Was planning to go free & easy, but the train schedule was very tricky (many uncertainties & last minute rescheduling) so decided to sign up for this guided tour instead. No regrets! Victor is very knowledgeable and engaging. Great way to not just see but also learn about the area while completely avoiding any crowds. Felt like we had the countryside to ourselves.

Victor was amazing, energetic, engaging, and clearly passionate about Van Gogh. He began the tour by inquiring about our interest in the artist and then tailored his presentation to best engage us. This tour has been a highlight of my trip to France. I highly recommend it. It is not to be missed.

What a special one of a kind tour! Victor is an incredible tour guide, interesting, entertaining and warm; and the tour combines art and the outdoors and overall feels like spending the day inside an impressionist painting. Went with my 18 yr old daughter who loved it. Highly recommend.

This trip combines a beautiful country hike with information about the artists who lived in this area, especially Vincent Van Gogh. Victor clearly loves the Impressionists, especially Van Gogh. While I certainly could have looked up this route online and done this walk, Victor added so much context to the route, houses and villages, while keeping up a running history of Impressionism and Van Gogh’s life. I really enjoyed it! The walk is mostly flat with an uphill section.

A long time local citizen and hiking enthusiast takes you on a hike through woods and open country and ponds to walk in the steps of Vincent's final three months. Thoughtfully prepared, interactive in nature, easy to follow ideas as presented, and very helpful and responsive in logistics, we sincerely recommend this tour. You can -- on your own -- continue your own exploration after Victors tour to visit two other amazing places not on Victors tour -- 1) Vincent's death room (30 minutes) and 2) a 20 minute walk through the village to a self guided tour of Dr Gachets home 1 hour), finding your own way home on a later train to return to Nord.

Victor was the best! He taught us Van Gogh’s story in an engaging and interesting way. He knows everything there is to know about Van Gogh and Impressionism. The towns we hiked through are preserved, so quaint, beautiful and as old as from the 1600-1700s. I am not someone typically interested in art but found this walking tour to be so well thought out and special. Highly recommend. We met at 7:50 and got back to Paris between 2:30/3:00. Victor planned ahead and asked me if I wanted to change the tour to a day with better weather which I did and so appreciated.

Victor is the best guide! A very unique hike, I learned so much about Van Gogh because Victor was informative and interesting!! Beautiful village to wander through and a perfect side trip outside of Paris. Strongly recommend!!

My husband and I had a wonderful experience hiking in the footsteps of Van Gogh in the charming city of Auvers-sur-Oise. Many thanks to our knowledgeable tour guide, Victor, who provided a fascinating account of Van Gogh’s life history. We highly recommend this tour!

One of the best tours we did on our europe trip. Our guide was extremely informative and very knowledgeable on Van Geoff. If you love art this tour is for you.

It’s a wonderful trip. Victor is very knowledgeable and friendly. The trip is very organized and seamless. We learned a lot about Van Gogh.

Victor is a very thoughtful guide, who strives to make the hiking tour both fun and informative. A truly unique experience!

Definitely recommend this adventure. Great for anyone from art enthusiasts to people who enjoy a good walking adventure. Victor was a very knowledgeable tour guide and was very helpful and friendly.

What a great day! It was incredible to follow in the footsteps of Van Gogh, where we know he painted and where he spent time in the city of Auvers-sur-Oise. Victor was very informative and made Van Gogh and his art come alive. And we got a lot of exercise too! The perfect day. We left Paris around 8am from Gare du Nord and arrived back in Paris before 3pm. We highly recommend.

Victor was an amazing and knowledgeable guide. Anyone with an interest in Van Gogh should take this tour.

I could not think of a better way to spend half a day outside of Paris than to walk/hike with a very knowledgeable and considerate guide as Victor and learn about the life of Vincent Van Gogh, his work and the impressionism art movement. The 7.5 mile hike did not feel long as I was glued to Victor’s interesting commentaries and ways to get us engaged and think about many of the topics covered. I enjoyed walking through the small villages and fields, something I do not think I would be able to do, plan and experience while visiting Paris. Two of the highlights of my day were seeing the attic where he lived and died and Vincent’s final resting place. It was an excellent intimate educational hiking experience that I would definitely recommend.

This was such a fun day! 7 mile hike (wear tennis shoes and pants per mud and shrubbery along the paths) and learned more about Van Gogh than I could've imagined. The countryside was beautiful and peaceful and the villages were quaint and charming. It was SO cool to see the places that Vincent had painted. Victor (the guide) was phenomenal! Truly a kind, endearing, and knowledgeable man who made the day glide by seamlessly. I will say he is quite the quick walker, so make sure you are up for the pace.
Phyllis_S, Jul 2024
Victor’s hiking adventure was amazing! As someone who loves Van Gogh’s art and the outdoors, this was a perfect blending of the two. Victor was extremely knowledgable about Van Gogh’s life and his art and made our excursion fun and engaging, connecting the dots so that we could appreciate and enjoy the places that inspired Van Gogh. The hike (about 7 miles) was beautiful and pleasant, mostly on paved paths, nature trails, or village/hamlet roads. There is one short hill that we climbed up in a small patch of woods, but it was manageable for this 55+ woman, without any assistance. 😄. Lastly, Victor is the critical ingredient to this experience. He is positive, friendly, interactive, and clearly loves what he does. I can’t say enough good things about my experience and highly recommend getting out of Paris (for morning and part of the afternoon) to enjoy this particular trip with Victor to the countryside.

Victor was an excellent guide - very knowledgeable, energetic, fun and funny. Enjoyed ourselves from start to finish and we had a beautiful day for this walk.
Luann_B, Jun 2024
Fantastic! Victor our guide was so friendly and very knowledgeable. I learned so much more about Vincent Van Gogh and the hike was gorgeous. Victor likes to throw in some surprises too which will make it even more interesting.
john_g, Jun 2024
Don't be fooled by the small stature of Victor the tour guide. He can clip along at a good pace. This custom tour is fantastic for anyone with interest in the life of Vincent Van Gogh. You will see iconic locations where Vincent did several of his final works and learn much of how he spent his final days. Victor is knowledgeable and was willing to make certain customizations to accommodate our needs. You will need to be reasonably fit and packing some snacks and water is advisable.

Far and away my favorite tour while in Paris. Although I appreciate art, I was more interested in the hiking aspect. That quickly changed as our Tour Guide (Victor) was fully engaging. He went above and beyond to make the day enjoyable and interactive. I learned so much. This is not something that can be said of any other tour I experienced while in France. Typically, the tour guides mail it in, not Victor….He was great and his passion for what he does shined through.
Rhonda_H, Apr 2024
Excellent day! Highly recommend! I learned a lot from Victor! And enjoyed the hiking in a beautiful part of France!
Cara_B, Oct 2023
Loved the river walk and seeing a hameau where Impressionists painted! Viktor was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He planned so well. I will recommend to my friends!
Michelle_P, Oct 2023
Victor is a wonderful guide. Our group of 6 encountered a surprise rain storm at the beginning of our tour, but after a short bus ride, we resumed our hike after the rain let up. This tour involves a lot of walking/hiking (at least 6 or 7 miles) through rolling hills in the countryside. We saw the house where Van Gogh rented a room, as well as many buildings and landscapes in his paintings - amazing! The tour is a great workout and an art history lesson.
Karen_L, Aug 2023
I was so glad I booked this! It was great to get out of the center of Paris and be transported back in time. The scenery was so beautiful and so well preserved that you could easily imagine the great history that Victor was explaining and showing. I love Van Gogh’s work but I also love getting out in nature and learning. This trip was good for all. Victor was a great guide to get you thinking, he answered all of your questions and sent great links afterwards with more info. I was particularly impressed with all of the communications to ensure that I got to the right place at the right time.
I am in my 60s and I considered this a walk more than a hike, only one hill. Yes the pace was fast but it was also considerate. Victor had arranged for a bathroom stop along the tour. He also had an easier option of taking a bus back in case we weren’t up to the full walk to the Meriel train station. But the walk was so enjoyable we kept going all the way. If you are in Paris, you should really try to do this trip, it will be something special for you to remember for a long time.

This was a fabulous hike, but be aware that it is very fast-paced. The little towns we explored were lovely. Victor gives very detailed directions on how to meet up, and he has everything scheduled throughout the day. He knows exactly where we need to be and when, arriving at the train station within ten minutes for our return back to Paris. He is very knowledgeable about the topic--in this case, Van Gogh. Thank you, Victor, for a glorious day!

This is a great non-touristy experience. Incredible landscape of where Van Gogh and others painted. We had perfect weather and our guide was very knowledgeable however he walked so fast it was hard to stop and take a picture. Also when he did stop to describe something he did not wait for our group of 7 to catch up. I loved what we saw and learned but bring the speed walking down a notch. If you love Van Gogh this is a must, but it is 8 miles at a fast clip.
