Exactly as described!

it was exactly as described, which we enjoyed for the most part! We went on a Saturday and although end of September is supposed to be after “busy season” there were still 30,000 people there. Our tour guide was Maralin and she was fantastic! Also you only see a fraction of the grounds on the ~2hr tour, so if you want to see more, don’t plan anything after. We had another reservation after so we couldn’t stay but wish we would’ve! There’s a little cafe/bar inside too, which was a nice surprise. It was nice they give you ear pieces to ensure you can hear the guide the whole time too.

Excellent experience! Highlights were Ravello and Pompeii. We covered a lot of ground. Alessandro was a great guide and our private tour guide at Pompeii was also excellent. Highly, highly recommend. Alessandro went out of his way to voluntarily find some of the best spots for pictures.

Tour Pompeii with an expert

Fantastic in-depth tour! Our guide was archeologist Andrea and he was excellent! It took a minute to get used to his Italian accent but his English was very good. He showed us the new dig as well that is underway to uncover more of the city that was buried in ash. A lot of walking on uneven surfaces so wear your most comfortable shoes. Hat or shade umbrella also recommended.

Great tour of both Herculeaneum & Pompeii

Great tour with a knowledgeable guide. We had an easy meeting place and traveled via a comfortable, air-conditioned bus, with a great driver. Our guide was friendly, and very knowledgeable, & hit all the highlights of both parks. It was a challenge to have enough time to take photos, and if you got behind a little, the headsets were intermittent. The parks are huge, so having to keep moving was necessary. There was a good break for lunch. I definitely recommend this tour and this tour guide.

The tour was well-paced and informative—a great way to spend three hours! Teresa, both an archaeologist and an excellent tour guide, was very knowledgeable and explained everything clearly. She also answered questions thoughtfully and thoroughly. She set a comfortable pace and never rushed us into the crowds, allowing us to fully appreciate the sites. The group size of around 20 people was reasonable—not too large, so it was easy to stay with the group and follow her explanations without feeling lost. Overall, it was a very enjoyable and worthwhile experience!

It was a very hot day...

It was a very hot day when we visited these historical sites. Make sure to bring water and hats and fans when you visit during the summer months. Our tour guide’s name was Vincenzo. He was great! He was knowledgeable, friendly and funny. He made the ruins and their history relevant. He was also very considerate of the heat and always looking for shaded areas to give us the information about the ruins. He was a great guide and is why we had such a good experience there.

Great experience. Transport guide, Luigi was very attentive. Subject guide is an archeologist on the Pompeii excavation team. He really covered a multi perspective regarding geographic implications, lifestyle of inhabitants and technical side of the archeologic excavation. The rough terrain and hot temperatures made for very challenging physical effort, but it was worth the effort.
