3 Days in Los Cabos for First Timers

Curated by Jenna Scatenawho's never turned down a trip to Los Cabos.

It's an endless summer in Los Cabos, located at the tip of the Baja California Peninsula. Since the area experiences only a handful of days when the sun hides away, it’s become the ultimate escape for surfing, hiking, fishing, and diving. It really is all about the outdoors in Los Cabos, with its backdrop of desert, ocean, and mountain landscapes.

First-time visitors often try to pack their days in Los Cabos full of activities, but I recommend planning time for relaxing on the beaches and strolling amongst the historic streets and museums, too. Here’s how I like to spend three days in the infinite sunshine of Los Cabos.

Pack your bikini and lightweight clothes for Los Cabos, year-round.

If you only have time for one thing, make it the village of Todos Santos.

Day 1

There's much to explore in the southern tip of Baja Sur California. First, dive into the food tradition of San Jose del Cabo, with its colonial buildings and sandy beaches. Sample the town's tacos, deserts, and tequilas on a tour.

In the afternoon, admire the natural scenery of Los Cabos from the air. An ecoadventure in Costa Azul features ziplines, a suspension bridge, and a rope swing so you can get your adrenaline pumping, surrounded by beautiful scenery.

Or, if you prefer, head out for the evening on a sunset cruise in Cabo San Lucas. Enjoy dinner and an open bar with live music and a show.

Day 2

Discover the artistic enclave of Todos Santos on a day tour from San Jose del Cabo. On the way you'll pass the fishing village of El Pescadero and the town of Elias Calles. In Todos Santos you'll find a thriving artist community and get to explore galleries, artisan shops, and a local weaving factory. You'll stop at an organic food cooperative and enjoy lunch at the Hotel California.

If you prefer to spend the day in nature, trek to the hidden waterfalls of Baja instead. There, you'll swim next to waterfalls and escape the beach crowds of Cabo.

Day 3

Make the most of the surrounding seas on a sailing tour to snorkel off the coast. Aboard a solar-powered catamaran, enjoy views of the famous arch rock formation and snorkel to see marine life. A Mexican buffet lunch and an open bar is included.

In the afternoon, explore Los Cabos' desert landscapes. Ride through the Migrino Desert on horseback, with ocean views providing opportunities to spot whales, dolphins, and turtles as you ride the Baja trails. If you're more adventurous, an all-terrain vehicle tour might be more your speed. Race your guide through sandy canyons and river trails of the Cabo Desert, ride a camel, and taste tequila.
