Paths to some of the world’s highest mountains that includes K2, K3, and Gasherbrum; all are connected through this valley. A city with all modern life amenities is base to many remote places i.e. Deosai, Khaplu, Kharpocho Fort, Shigar and Baltoro Treks. These towering mountains attract thousands of climbers from all over the world each year. The Shigar Valley is a valley in Baltistan in northern Pakistan that is watered by the Shigar River. The town of Shigar is the largest settlement in Valley. Even though the Shigar Valley is a remote and largely inaccessible place, there are several villages in the valley. Askole is the last settlement in the Shigar Valley, which is still far from the high mountains. Shigar was formerly an administrative sub-division of Skardu District but is now a district in its own right.

Hunza is a stunning mountain valley located in the extreme north of Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan region, surrounded by the majestic ranges of the Karakoram, Himalayas, Hindu Kush, and Pamir. It is near the Tianshan and Kunlun mountains and the historic city of Kashgar. Once part of the ancient Silk Route, Hunza is now accessed via the Karakoram Highway (KKH), often called the "eighth wonder of the world," which connects to China through the Khunjerab Pass at 4,733 meters. The best times to visit are in spring when fruit trees bloom, and in autumn, when the leaves turn vibrant shades of yellow and red. The ideal visiting period is from April to the end of October. Hunza can be reached from Islamabad by a 55-minute flight to Gilgit, followed by a 2-3 hour drive on the KKH. Alternatively, you can access it from China via Tashkurgan-Kashgar through the Khunjerab Pass.

Kuksil Valley, situated near the Khunjerab Pass in Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan region, is renowned for its challenging climbing routes and remote alpine beauty. While it isn't a mainstream skiing destination, its high-altitude terrain and untouched snowfields present potential for backcountry ski touring for experienced adventurers. The valley features peaks such as Kuksil 5 (5,870 meters), visible from the Karakoram Highway en route to Khunjerab Pass. In 2011, a team led by Krzysztof Wielicki explored the area, including the Third Koksil Glacier and peaks like Jacky Chhish (5,717 meters), highlighting its appeal for mountaineering and potential for ski touring. Given its elevation and snow conditions, Kuksil Valley could offer opportunities for ski mountaineering. However, due to its remote location and lack of established ski infrastructure, it is best suited for seasoned backcountry skiers equipped for self-supported expeditions.
