Full Day of Oaxaca’s Culture, History, and Craftsmanship with Miguel

We had an incredible experience with Miguel from Oaxaca by Locals. From the moment we left at 8am sharp until we returned around 7:30 pm, he kept the day engaging, informative, and fun. Miguel was extremely knowledgeable at every stop, from the majestic Tule Tree and the textile workshops of Teotitlán del Valle to Mitla, Hierve el Agua, and the mezcal distillery. He answered every question we threw at him and even taught us indigenous terminology and local expressions that helped us better understand Oaxaca’s rich cultural heritage. What really stood out was how much context he provided throughout the day. Each destination felt more meaningful because Miguel explained not just what we were seeing, but why it mattered. If you've already visited Monte Albán, this tour is an excellent follow-up because it helps connect the story of what may have happened after the Zapotecs left the mountaintop city. Seeing places like Mitla and learning about the surrounding valleys adds another layer of understanding to Oaxaca's history and makes the region's past feel much more connected. The schedule was packed, but the time flew by thanks to Miguel's fun and funny enthusiasm. We enjoyed the tour so much that we ended up purchasing a souvenir at just about every stop. This was an amazing...

This was an amazing experience. Despite the rain, the tour ran very smoothly and each location had the perfect amount of time. Our guide Pavel was very knowledgeable and passionate and made it a great learning experience. We especially appreciated Pavel’s detailed and thorough explanations at Mitla, which really enchanted our experience. The buffet lunch was excellent and greatly exceeded our expectations! Our driver Erick was great as well!

The experience was hands...

The experience was hands on and educational. We all prepared the meal together and ate together as a group. Oswaldo was so knowledgeable and obviously passionate about his craft and culture. As group classes do, everyone started out a bit shy but we ended up laughing and having a great time eating and chatting. It was a lot of food but we could take extra home with us. I would definitely recommend this class.

He was very informative and detailed before arriving at each site and throughout the visit at Monte Alban, describing essentially every building and the story behind them. The alebrije and black pottery workshop visits were good quick stops to learn about their creations, and there was no pressure to buy anything.

You will meet in center...

You will meet in center of Oaxaca and travel in bus to Monte Albán. Our guide (Miguel) did such a good job of making the ruins come to life by providing more context and even highlighting additional artifacts with use of magazines. We would never have gotten as much from our tour without Miguel's expertise. We really enjoyed his approach! We had about 45min of "free time" after the guided tour finished to look at the ruins in closer detail and visit the indoor museum. Go early because it will be hot! Bring water. There is a small restaurant along with the museum for drinks and snacks. We then traveled back to the city center on the bus.

The best tour we did in all of Mexico, special thanks to our guide!

Would give this 7 stars if I could! We absolutely loved this experience, wow! I thought 6-7 hours might be too much time but I could have gone another 7 hours! We loved the pre-Hispanic history provided by our guide throughout our walking tour of Oaxaca. We felt like we saw the majority of old Oaxaca on our tour and saw so many things we would have otherwise missed. This includes the food! I am not usually one to try different foods but this was so much fun and so, so tasty. Ours favorite were the black mole tamales which would have been impossible to find if not for this tour - we didn’t see them anywhere else in Oaxaca on our trip, and the variety of Oaxacan fruits, including a chewable stick which was SO cool, and spicy!!! We loved the mezcals, the fruits, the pre-Hispanic atols and conversation with our guide. We were lucky enough to be the only group on the day we booked and if a private tour isn’t already available, I’d recommend this operator to create a private tour, because it felt so much more personable and intimidate with only the 3 of us. Highly recommend if you love food and history! We wouldn’t have tried 95% of the foods we tried on this tour had it not been for the tour. We also wouldn’t have seen 70% of the sites and markets if we didn’t book this tour. I’ll be recommending this tour to everyone. I loved meeting the owners of every restaurant/market we stopped at, too.

This tour far exceeded expectations. Our guide, Michelle, was so knowledgeable and just a delight. We learned so much about each of our stops - Monte Alban, the mezcal ancestral, the Alebrijes and the pottery. It was a tour for 6 and the other couple on our tour was also delightful. A wonderful day all around.

A must-do tour for first time visitors to Oaxaca!

This is a jam-packed but very well organised tour which includes several must-do activites in Oaxaca. We elected to go straight to the pools at Hierve del Agua rather than doing the hike and I would highly recommend this because it was so quiet when we got there that we almost had the pools to ourselves! The mezcal tasting was incredible (I think we were given 11 different types of Mezcal to try) and we especially loved our guided tour of Mitla and the info the guide shared about the Tule tree/town of Tule. We didn’t catch the name of our guide unfortunately but he was incredible and did a great job managing an at times rather difficult tour group. We were a little sad in the morning to have missed out on some of his guided commentary on the bus ride to the waterfalls (he stopped after someone interrupted him asking to get off the bus). We understood why he didn’t continue as most of the group were visibly disengaged, but we had been enjoying hearing about the local indigenous history of the area!

Leyda was an excellent guide who was very knowledgeable and passionate about Mezcal and what it means to Oaxaca. My wife and I left with a deeper appreciation for the amount of effort it takes to produce them and how skilled mezcaleros are. The food, mezcales, tour, and general views were incredible. Would strongly recommend this experience - or following Leyda when she opens her own tour and experiences!

Amazing trip seeing lots of wildlife

We were very lucky and saw Manta-rays, Turtles, Spotted Dolphins, White-bellied Dolphins, Blue Whales, and Killer Whale. Our pilot was fantastic, and would definitely recommend using the company (just know that the animals are seasonal and wild, so you’ll not always see the same animals on each trip)
