This class was incredible. A friend recommended it to us, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. We made traditional corn tortillas from scratch, learned about the history and cooking process of mole, explored new flavors, and gained a real appreciation for the food, from the ground to the table. Even in a group of 15, the experience felt personal and tailored to everyone’s tastes. The setting was beautiful, and we loved getting to wander around the farm and visit the local market to gather ingredients for our dishes. Miguel, the owner, was an exceptional teacher, engaging, knowledgeable, and truly passionate which made the whole experience one of a kind. It added so much to our time in Oaxaca and was a true highlight of our Mexico trip!

    A Wonderful Oaxaca Cooking Experience!!

    Gregory_K, Sep 2026
A wonderful way to spend a morning in Oaxaca. Miguel and Jose are so kind, teaching you every step, from making homemade tortillas all the way to mole. They offer as much or as little info as you want. A favorite experience of ours in Mexico! The setting is a beautiful outdoor kitchen and garden with two of the sweetest dogs for additional company!

An exceptional culinary adventure awaited me at an authentic Oaxacan farm. Despite being the sole guest on this particular day, Miguel and his remarkable staff ensured a comprehensive experience. From a personalized driver to pick me up, to a tour of the farm grounds, a shopping trip to the market, and a history lesson on Oaxacan cooking through the ages, every detail was meticulously arranged. And of course, the pièce de résistance was a delightful four-course meal that left me thoroughly satisfied.

    Traditional Oaxacan Cooking Class

    Myra_D, Jul 2026
Very educational. The class starts with a ride in a comfortable van to a destination about 20 minutes from the Center. It was a wonderful learning experience. The only thing I didn't like was going to the market. It was a long walk but the host gives the group the choice of what they want to cook which is why we had to go to the market. He has a wonderful authentic Oaxacan kitchen. He is a wonderful host and a good teacher. I used to be a chef so I prefer to observe , but my group loved it. Plan to spend the whole day . Like 9am to 3 pm. Great food ! We learned how to make tortillas from scratch. and we got to eat everything we made. Great fun and our host has a mini farm and a wonderful herb and vegetable garden. The class is outside and we eat at a picnic table with a covered roof. And at the end of class we sit down together and enjoy the meal we created together. Highly recommend

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the cooking class, the food, and the experience of learning about Oaxacan cuisine. We’re sorry the walk to the market felt long. We would like to clarify that the market is only about four blocks away—approximately a four-minute walk from our kitchen. Since guests choose the dishes they would like to prepare, visiting the market allows everyone to select fresh, local ingredients and makes the experience more interactive and authentic. It was a pleasure hosting you, and we truly appreciate your recommendation. We hope to welcome you back to Oaxaca in the future!

    Yummy mole

Miguel Angel was great he also stepped in to help giving us some cooking tips . Thank you for having me in your home, the farm with all the fresh fruit and veggies was great. Truly a wonderful experience!

From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was incredibly welcoming and instantly brought all the participants together. The host was fantastic—so friendly, engaging, and passionate—and the supporting staff went out of their way to be helpful and kind. What I loved most was that we didn't just blindly follow a recipe. We actually learned the why behind the cooking, including how to make small adjustments to customize the dish to our own tastes or completely transform it into something new. It felt like a true community experience. I highly recommend this class to anyone!

    An Incredible Cultural Cooking Experience

    Karen_S, May 2026
My Sister and I had the pleasure of an incredible farm-to-table Oaxacan cooking experience with José as our instructor today. We were picked up in Oaxaca Central in a van and driven out to a smaller more laid back area outside of town where there was an outdoor cooking experience with José showing us the old traditional methods of making foods such as corn tortillas made from scratch, moles, salsas, empanadas and more.. We were given a tour of their large fruit and vegetable garden and their goats, chickens and such. Then we walked to the local market to shop for additional fresh ingredients. We arrived back and José put us to work, showing us the authentic cooking techniques over fire, using all the freshest ingredients. We enjoyed several dishes and it was a wonderful experience in a laid back large back yard setting. They have a great set up there for a truly memorable day. Oh, and we enjoyed the cocktails too!!

    A wonderful experience!...

    Ed_L, May 2026
A wonderful experience! Learn how to make tortillas from corn masa. They showed us nine different Molay's and we got to pick two that we made from scratch.. Delicious.!

    Great day

    Claire_R, May 2026
What a lovely surprise. This was a great cooking class, loved the setting, the short walk to the market, learning the processes of making some authentic food and getting to taste all the different moles.

A cooking class for all ages and abilities!

    Melissa_W, Feb 2026
We booked a cooking class for 2 adults and our 3.5 year old daughter. We were the only people with a child there so initially we were worried she wouldn’t be able to participate but they made her feel so special and welcome. She was able to make her own tortillas, empanadas, and dessert. It’s a really beautiful outdoor setting and you get to socialise with other like minded travellers learning to cook a Oaxacan meal. It is a long day so if you’ve got little ones, bring extra snacks to hold them over as we were there from 9-3. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and would recommend this to anyone!

Nice way to spend the day.

    Minette_S, Feb 2026
This cooking class was more about collective cooking and not really learning about each step in each dish. You vote as a group on what you want to cook so it might not be exactly what you want. We did make a lot of food - tortilla, empanada, soup, four salsas, adobo and mole. Started the day with a cheese quesadilla and chocolate/coffee and walked to the local market to source ingredients (we mainly stood around while they shopped). Enjoyed that we could have a beer or mezcal while cooking. The kitchen was beautiful and they are very aware of food safety practices.

    Great food adventurer experience

Great experience! Very knowledgeable about ancient, colonial and modern food. My sister is a chief and she was totally impressed

Much more than a cooking class!

    Morgan_G, Dec 2025
This cooking experience is excellent - the hosts showed us their property and garden and then took us to the local market to gather ingredients for our meal. We started with coffee and quesadillas, and sampled 10 moles to then choose which two we would make together. We learned how to make tortillas from scratch, empanadas, molotes, a local soup, and two different moles. The chef is great and the food was delicious.

    Don’t think twice, just book!

    Joseph_D, Dec 2025
The class was amazing! We don’t typically do group things like this ever, but something about it changed our mind. And we are so happy it did. The entire group was just delightful. Chef was so fun and informative. We happily recommend to anyone who wants to learn about Oaxacan cuisine, the act of cooking it, history of ingredients; or if you just want to have a great time, lots of laughs, and maybe a few beers while you’re at it. It was an experience we very much treasure!

    Fun day cooking!

    Susan_L, Dec 2025
This was a really fun day! Jose was engaging with all of us and shared interesting insights about the food and cooking process. The food was excellent and each of us got to cook or make all the dishes.

    The best activity in Oaxaca!

    Sasa_R, Nov 2025
We loved everything about this class! We were picked up from Oaxaca center and taken to a small farm with beautiful garden and outdoor kitchen. We met Jose there and started to plan the menu - we set the menu according to our wishes, while drinking hot chocolate or coffee and eating the first course of the day. Next stop was the market where Jose got all od the needed ingredients. Cooking was so much fun, we made 4 dishes and we got a chance to try 9 moles - which was pretty awesome! The atmosphere was great and Jose was a perfect teacher - he is such a warm and funny person, we loved cooking with him so much! For the money you pay you really get so much food, but even more important you get a perfect day in Oaxaca!

    Amazing

We spent a lovely day cooking authentic Oaxaca dishes Our chef Jose was very friendly and knowledgeable and created an enjoyable informative class. We tasted 9 moles, made different salsas, made tortillas from scratch and cooked a full mole dinner and authentic soup. The staff at the garden were all helpful and kind. Would highly recommend. Jose even made us some beautiful tasty mescal cocktails.

    Great experience.

It was an amazing experience. Hospitality was top notch, from the moment we were picked up. We learned to cook everything from scratch, and the food was great. Eat from the moment we got there, until the time we left. Miguel is a great teacher, he is very knowledgeable. He knows the history of the food and he is an excellent chemist. 😊

Fed lots of great knowledge and great food! Miguel (owner) has a wealth of experience and knowledge, and a lot of passion. Cooking at his home/farm was a nice experience. Tasting 9 moles was a highlight. The class did feel a bit rushed at times and we didn't get to be as hands on with every part of the cooking/prep as I would've liked. Also I wish we'd made a more traditional mole. But overall a great class :)

    Response from Host, Oct 2025

felt rush??? im really sorry, your team finished at 4 pm..... we never run....

This cooking class was a relaxed and enjoyable day of learning and cooking together. It was truly a cultural experience, learning not just about the how to but the why and the history behind the traditional foods and methods.

    Brilliant day out

    Rory_S, Aug 2025
Much more than we were expecting, from mole to traditional tortilla making from scratch we had a wonderful day cooking with Miguel and his fantastic team. The market tour and the garden farm were also highlights!

    Fantastic experience

    Maribell_I, Aug 2025
You will learn about the cooking process from the very beginning in an informative yet enjoyable way. Chef Miguel and his staff, Jose and Vicky were a joy to be around and made this experience such an amazing time. The instructions and cooking everything was a bit intimidating but they made sure we careful with every step. This class was such a delight, I may have to sign up again on a different visit. Gracias Quinta Brava por una experiencia tan hermosa. Nos divertimos mucho!

Glad this was the course I chose!

    Nathan_J, Jul 2025
I really enjoyed my class with Mike, and took away a lot more confidence and tips for back home. We even decided the menu around what I liked, and also what ingredients I should be able to find in Australia. I ended up being the only one there due to some late cancellations, so I got the opportunity to do the whole thing in Spanish which was great for my practice! I loved how we went to the garden to pick stuff, then walked out to the local market to buy things which we didn't have. It was a great experience reflecting making the most of farm and seasonal ingredients. In the end, I got to sit down and enjoy the meal with the whole family which was great given I was travelling solo. I looked at a few different tours, and I'm really glad this is the one I ended up picking.

Great experience, would recommend 100%. Chef was amazing, super hands on and knowledgeable about Oaxacan cooking methods. Welcomed us into his beautiful home and courtyard where we enjoyed many beautiful dishes we all enjoyed together. He even went as far as making sure we made our flight home on time and will remember the experience for many years to come.
