The Vatican Tour Did Not Disappoint!

Our tour guide Gio was great, we loved her no nonsense approach to the crowds and getting our group to where we needed to be and see. Be prepared for crowds, even with skip the line, but definitely go with a skip the line, the guides do help get the groups through quickly. They all know the staff and that helps. Be prepared for heat, there is no AC on the tour. It gets very warm. Definitely not suitable for strollers or real little ones. Just my opinion but there are lots of steps and huge crowds. I wore slacks because I was worried about the restrictions. I probably could have worn a longer skirt and been ok. As long as your shoulders are slightly covered you are fine. Or bring a lightweight scarf. Vendors sell them outside for 10£. Gentlemen could definitely get away with longer shorts near the knee. No one was stopped and with the heat it’s a wise choice. Pack water you will need a full bottle. I do wish the tour started with St Peter’s and worked backwards vs the museums first. Our tour did museums, Sistine, then St Peter’s. We were a bit worn out by that time due to the heat. The Sistine was smaller than I expected, there is NO photography allowed. Strictly enforced. Be prepared for a room packed with tourists looking up. It was jammed in there. We were grateful for 15 minutes in this portion of the tour to view the ceiling. It was a great experience. Definitely book the earliest tour possible if you are going during the summer months.

Excellent tour through a very busy place

The most important thing to understand about the Vatican tour is that 10s of thousands of people go through the Vatican every day. As such, it's crowded, it's hard to hear even with the earpeace, and you aren't going to see everything. But no tour can solve that. Putting that general situation aside, the tour guide was very good and thorough, giving lots of context, stories, and background for all of the areas we walked through and huge numbers of paintings, sculptures, and other art and features that we saw. She managed the 20 or so people in our group well and ensured that everyone had a chance to see and take in everything. We saw all the major sites, and when we were done, we knew where to go. Great tour, thank you very much!

Expensive but excellent

I know, this is not a cheap option but you do get what you pay for. The tour ran like a Swiss timepiece, but we were not rushed. Our tour guide was very informative and pointed out things I had never noticed before on my previous visits. Don’t skip the air conditioned museum at the end of the tour. It was incredibly informative and made me go back inside to see some things.
