The guide Gebru is really...
The guide Gebru is really sweet and funny, and makes the tour enjoyable.
Its quite adventurous so be prepared for that. Can get hot as well, dress appropriately. Watching the baboons is fun, and the stained glass is pretty but the view from the Portuguese bride across the gorge is absolutely fantastic.
The food is excellent as well, and so is the coffee.

Prepare for the best local tour.
If you want a real Ethiopian local experience, take this tour—it's a must. Be prepared for the best local tour. My guide, Gashaw, was highly knowledgeable and able to explain in thorough detail the history of Ethiopia and answer all my questions. I was treated to a local meal, a coffee ceremony, and a nice walk in the biggest African market. I was given a wide cultural variety to experience and I am very grateful to have met my guide and experienced this trip. Thank you.

Insightful and great tour
Yihun was a fantastic guide. The showed us Addis and were very friendly too. He was patient and took time to explain everything that was happening. Luckily for us, our tour fell on a day when everyone was commemorating lento and so the churches were full and bustling! Definitely recommend.

What started as a frustrating flight Cancellation turned into an unexpectedly memorable travel experience.
On February 28, my Etihad flight from Cochin to Chicago via Abu Dhabi was canceled due to the Middle East airspace closure related to the regional conflict. With many flights quickly selling out, I scrambled for alternatives and managed to reroute through Mumbai on Air India, followed by an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Chicago. The itinerary came with a 15-hour layover in Addis Ababa.
Ethiopian Airlines provided a transit visa and hotel room, but spending daylight hours in a hotel in a city I had never visited felt like a missed opportunity. So I booked a same-day private city tour.
Within an hour, my guide and driver arrived, and the three of us set out to explore Addis Ababa. I was surprised by how modern and developed much of the city felt.
The highlight was visiting the National Museum of Ethiopia, where I saw Lucy, the famous 3-million-year-old hominid fossil that helped reshape our understanding of human evolution. Nearby was Selam, an even older and remarkably preserved child fossil — a humbling reminder of how far back our human story goes.
We also visited Merkato, the massive open-air market often described as the largest in Africa. Calling it a second-hand market barely captures it — it felt more like a cathedral of recycling, where everything imaginable finds a second or third life.
Along the way I experienced Ethiopian coffee culture, which is almost ceremonial.
I paid about $100 for the private tour, probably slightly above local prices, but the experience was excellent — especially considering it was arranged the same day.
If you ever have the chance, I highly recommend a stopover in Addis Ababa with Ethiopian Airlines and a quick city tour. What could have been a long layover became a fascinating glimpse into one of the cradles of human history.

Excellent Full Day Introduction to Addis Ababa
We had an excellent full day tour of Addis Ababa with Teshome. He was incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and engaging from start to finish. He explained the history, culture, and architecture in a way that was easy to understand but still very thorough and insightful.
The tour was well organized and efficient, and the hotel pickup and drop off made the day completely seamless. We covered the major highlights without ever feeling rushed. Teshome answered every question thoughtfully and added context that made each stop more meaningful.
If you’re looking for a comprehensive and well run introduction to Addis Ababa, this tour is a fantastic choice. Highly recommend, especially with Teshome as your guide.

A great glimpse into authentic Ethiopian life and highlights of the countryside
A really great trip that will be a highlight of my time in Addis Ababa. Dagi was a great guide who made sure everything ran smoothly and answered any questions we had.
We got to see all the highlights, including the monastery and geladas, but the long-ish drive each way was a real insight into how many millions of Ethiopians live their lives, an experience that was really valuable to my overall trip and that I would not have gotten were it not for this tour taking me outside the Addis city centre.

Addis+ tour
Biruk, our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and really provided good options to see in the time constraint that we had. The driver was also extremely good. They picked us up from where I was staying, which was not a conventional hotel, without any problem. We went to the National Museum, Mt Entoto where we saw a great view of the city and had a traditional coffee ceremony with food. We drove by the market and went to Holy Trinity Cathedral. It was the Muskel celebration day, so he also gave us perspective there-was a great experience before having to fly out that night.
