Had a fantastic hike with Edgar! He was so kind and shared his deep knowledge with us about the glacier with his great humor and our whole group ended the hike with chocolate in hand and high spirits! 10/10 would recommend to anyone. Hike difficulty was moderate for someone who doesn’t hike much, but was definitely worth it. Edgar was sure to keep our group together and kept us at a comfortable pace for everyone. Be sure to bring warm clothes and comfortable hiking shoes with ankle support (or rent them at the tour).

Brilliant experience, so glad we did it. Per, our guide was funny and knowledgable and read the group so well, to ensure everyone enjoyed it. Reasonable level of fitness / mobility needed, but nothing too strenuous. The three hours went so quickly!

The hike was led by experienced guides who have been doing this for many years. They were supportive in donning and doffing the equipment. Skill level easy to me and I’m an active senior. A must do when the weather is good 👍

This was the highlight of my trip to Iceland. When can you say you hiked a glacier? My partner and I went to iceland in October when there was record snowfall- 18inches! We still managed to make the trek from Reykyavik to the meet up location (about 2.5 hour drive) and it was well worth it. The weather on the glacier itself was perfect, hardly windy and SUNNY. It look a little bit to get the trek started with donning the safety equipment, but once we got going, wit was amazing. Edgar and Natalia were amazing hosts- very patient with some of our less attentive compatriots but also very informative. And a pleasure to be around and talk with. I just hope they'll adopt a QR code / venmo for digital payments (still, it's obviously wholly, my fault I did not prepare cash for tips!). Best of luck to you Edgar and Natalia, I hope to see you again next year, maybe in the spring or fall!

My husband and I did this tour on 10/12/25 during our anniversary trip to Iceland. First off, our tour guide Miguel and our hiking experience were great! Miguel was very knowledgeable and friendly. We were given all the equipment we needed and Miguel made sure everything was put on properly. However, my experience when reaching out to the company regarding an issue was terrible! I booked this tour with Viator and received a confirmation email from Viator. No where in the tour information on the Viator website nor in my confirmation email did it state that we would have to pay a parking fee when we arrive at the meeting point. Also, at the meeting point there are ZERO signs stating that you have to pay for parking and the tour guides did not mention it. Upon returning my rental car, I was notified that I had not paid a parking fee during my glacier hike therefore I have to pay almost three times as much to the rental company because of this. When I reached out to Troll Expeditions I was initially told there is no parking fee at the meeting point, as parking is free for visitors joining the tour. When I shared that I received a parking ticket and can share the photo of the ticket with them, I then got a response from a different customer service representative from Troll Expeditions stating that they apologize for the confusion but parking is not included and if I had booked directly through their website instead of Viator then the information would have been given to me. When I explained the unreasonableness of not having this information because of who I booked with, I was then answered by a completely different customer representative that suggested I reach out to Viator for a refund on the parking ticket. I again replied to the representative and shared that the idea was absurd to ask Viator for a refund and that Trolls Expedition should instead be the one refunding me for the parking ticket and fee I had to pay to the car rental company because their posting on Viator failed to mention a parking fee at the meeting point and they have zero signs up to make customers aware. A fourth customer service representative replied to me and stated that they regret to inform me that they are unable to refund me because the parking area is managed by an external company named Parka and fees apply to all vehicles parked there regardless of whether the information was included in my booking or not. Now let me say that every popular tourist destination I visited in Iceland (like Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach and Skógafoss waterfalls) there were very BIG signs notifying visitors that they have to pay a parking fee. They even had a QR code on the sign to help visitors easily pay the parking fee. However, at the meeting point for this expedition there were zero signs! I walked around the entire grounds and never saw a sign. Needless to say, Trolls Expedition should have done the right thing and refunded me. I didn't try to skip out on paying a parking fee, instead I was blindsided and charged triple the amount because the Trolls Epedition company failed to disclose the information to it's custormers from Viator. Four different customer service representatives followed up with my issue and it was not resolved. Therefore, I do not recommend using this company. But, if you do book this glacier hike, keep in mind that you have to pay for parking! Maybe by downloading the Parka app, I really don't know how you would know that with zero signs to help guide you!

This company was awesome and would definitely do another tour with them. Our guide, Edger was amazing. I would ask for him. He made the hike fun and was very knowable about the glacier.

Solheimajokull 3 hour glacier hike. This was an amazing hike. Our guide Eli was fantastic and made the trip safe and exciting. We hiked pretty far up on the glacier and saw how they measure the change in size of the glacier over the season. It was a bit harder to walk on the glacier than I thought even with the cramp-ons provided, but I would 100% recommend everyone take this tour.

Our guide, Lilly was AMAZING! She was energetic, fun and caring. She made the whole experience that much more enjoyable. She was great with the adults (my wife and I) as well as our children (8&11). In fact I think my 8 year old is now wanting to be an ice-climber. As far as the experience itself, it is a must do in Iceland. If you don't have it on your itinerary, don't leave Iceland without experiencing it!

Absolutely phenomenal! This was our first time to ever even see a glacier let alone hike on one! It was surreal. The dusting of volcanic ash made it come alive even more.
We loved our tour guide Wojtec! He was crystal clear about safety precautions , patient and helpful with the equipment, fun with the photo ops and very knowledgeable about the geologic processes. The day will be our most memorable experience from this trip .

We had a fantastic time with Kamilla! She was so helpful and knowledgeable about the terrain. It was super interactive and she showed us a bunch of great photo spots. Overall such an amazing experience!

Be prepared to hike. It is a beautiful and informative hike. Our guide was great. The advertising photo shows an ice cave, nope, no cave.

It is super fun. Our guide Edgar was great. It is hard to describe the beauty of the Glacier mixed in with volcanic ash.

Amazing experience! I took my parents on this (62/60) and they absolutely loved it. Guide does a good job at matching everyone’s pace, responding to questions/needs and giving history about the glacier. Overall, a super fun experience, was very safe and suitable for all ages.
Chris_H, Mar 2025
The glacier is stunning, so well worth seeing it up close. Our guide was great. The time includes setup and walking to glacier, so you may want to consider a longer tour for more time on the glacier!
Amanda_H, Mar 2025
Wow! What a cool experience! Lots of amazing photos to treasure for a lifetime. Great introduction to hiking on ice and a glacier. Our guide was absolutely amazing as well - highly recommend this tour

The absolute top experience we had while in Iceland. Filip and Adam were fantastic the second we arrived and so helpful. Filip was incredibly knowledgeable and a really fun guide. The groups were small and manageable and would 10/10 recommend.

This tour was great. We hiked up onto the glacier and got to explore a lot! Our guide was amazing, and told us tidbits and explained some of the history and geology of the glacier.

Upon arriving, the process was a bit confusing, and we weren’t sure which group to join. We waited until every group had left and ultimately found ourselves in a group of 16—definitely not a small group. Fortunately, our first guide, Nate, took great care of us and arranged for us to join a smaller group of 11 midway through the tour. The guides truly care about the experience, and we’re grateful that Nate found a solution.
Despite the initial confusion, we still had a great time. Our next guide, Adam, was incredibly passionate and full of energy. The tour was a great mix of hiking and sightseeing, with plenty of stops to catch our breath and take in the views.
That said, we’d gladly pay a premium for a smaller group experience. When it came time to tying our crampons, there were delays as some group members struggled to fit theirs correctly but didn’t check in with the guide, despite clear instructions. We noticed several people wearing incorrectly sized crampons, which could have been avoided with a smaller group.
Overall, the guides were fantastic, and we truly enjoyed the experience, but the large group size kept it just shy of a perfect rating.
Samantha_A, Dec 2024
Our guide was great and really knowledgeable and the glacier was incredible. The group size was 14 people which was too many and led to queues for specific points.
Angela_G, Dec 2024
This was a fantastic excursion! Our guide, Malek, was knowledgeable, friendly, and patient. He was great with our kids, and kept everyone safe. I am a nervous person, but I never felt concerned for our safety on this tour. Our guide taught us how to use our crampons, and the walk was not too difficult for us. Fantastic, educational adventure for families with teens and teens! Thank you for a lifelong memory!
