Our food tour with Diego from Carmen Food Tours was hands-down one of the highlights of our time in Tulum. The tacos and tamales were exceptional. Local surprises were authentic, flavorful, and clearly coming from places that residents actually eat.
Diego curated an incredible lineup of stops, each with its own story, tradition, and unforgettable flavors. Every bite felt intentional, and the experience struck the perfect balance between amazing food, cultural insight, and relaxed fun. You could tell he genuinely loves what he does—and it shows in the care he puts into the tour.
If you want to experience real Tulum through its food, this is the way to do it. Come hungry, leave happy, and expect to talk about these tacos long after you’re home. 🌮✨

I really enjoy these tours overall. I respect and appreciate that they can accommodate folks who have differing dietary needs.
What is really bad about this tour is that there is no room for actual inclusiveness. If even ONE person on the tour is vegetarian or vegan, everyone else is up a creek. NO one will get meet. That made for a very different experience, one I didn't sign up for, wouldn't have paid for, and I did not enjoy the experience like I thought I would. If it's possible, ASK beforehand if this will be the case. I was sorely disappointed, and feel like I missed out on a lot.

Very nice tour of downtown Tulum. We got to try 5 different places, all unique dishes, and some new things I had never had before! We went with Armando who was very engaging and taught me more about the Yucatán, which I really appreciated. Now I just want more salbutes!

Enrique was amazing and so knowledgeable about Tulum and its history. The food was delicious and we got to eat in places you wouldn’t dream of entering as a tourist, but it was the best food that I’ve eaten in Mexico.

This is not a hands on experience with food. You get a variety of taco styles and interesting information about the food and the area. The tour is approximately 3 hours but the walking is easy and plenty of rest at each stop.

It is very fun. If you expect to eat a lot, you won’t, but that is not the point of the tour… you will get to sample different and delicious tacos as well as get a history and explanation of the differences. We were with Armando and he was such a delight! Very knowledgeable and entertaining.

Great experience. Visited places we definitely wouldn’t have on our own, where local people were eating their daily meals. Plenty of stops to feel full, but not sick. With just the right amount of local history information for context.

I was disappointed as there was not a variety of foods. We did not come away with a good sampling of the wonderful foods that Tulum has to offer.
Our guide was very good. The food was good. Too many tacos. The dessert was a frozen bar on a stick. Good flavor variety offered. We were disappointed not to sample another type of the delicious mexican desserts.

You probably get $10 worth of food. Very overpriced tour for what you get. Some of the places we went were dirty and not good. Two stops were good. The guide was good and friendly and knowledgeable. They did accommodate vegetarian options at some stops.

This was insanely expensive. 88$ usd a person and we ate maybe 10$ each worth of food and drink. Left hungry and huge lack of diversity. The guide bragged about how cheap the food was at the places we went. More over emphasizing how we did NOT get what we paid for. Would NOT recommend.

This was one of our favorite things we did in Tulum. Such a great guide and such amazing local food. I really want to find similar experiences for every city we visit. Loved getting a local guide and going to places outside the typical tourist/influencer places.

We booked this last minute with no issues. Armando, our guide, was waiting for us at the meeting spot with a warm smile. He was friendly, knowledgeable and a great conversationist. As we walked, he gave us some history of Tulum and Mexico. The food spots were very good, there were vegetarian options at each place. Since our group consisted of just myself and my friend, we were able to linger a little longer at the stops and also stop at a few shops. Although it was hot, the walk was pretty good. I enjoyed this tour a lot.

If you are lucky, you'll be able to explore the city with Alberto. He is an engaging, earnest and articulate bi-lingual guide, who knows Tulum like the back of his hand. It wasn't just an introduction to the wonderful foods of Tulum. It was an introduction to, and quick immersion in, the Mayan culture and its influences, history of the growth and development of Tulum and surrounding cities, and a peak into the future possibilities for this wonderful region.
I've been traveling to several countries in Mexico, and this is the first time I was in a city where I actually thought I could relocate to for a few years. I was so lucky to have this experience. Alberto is a wonderful ambassador for Tulum and his company.
