We had a wonderful time learning how to cook chicken tagine and a beef dish with Anwar and his family. There was so much food, and it was so nice to be welcomed into their home. Anwar’s mother graciously demonstrated her recipes, and we participated by chopping vegetables. They also served tea and sweets with the meal, and everything was delicious! We highly recommend this cooking class as a fun family activity.

Thank you so much for your kind words! It was truly a pleasure welcoming you into our home and sharing this cooking experience with you. My mother was very happy to show you how we prepare traditional tagine and family recipes, and we’re glad you enjoyed cooking together, the tea, and the sweets. We really appreciate your recommendation, and you are always welcome back in Tangier — our home will be open for you anytime

      Authentic Family Cooking Experience

      Jesse_A, Nov 2024
My daughter and I had a great experience. This seemed very authentic. Our hosts treated us like a neighbor, instead of a tourist. They did not act like characters, they did not attempt to put on a show. It seemed like how an average week night would be in a real neighbor or family members home. The host took us to the market, asked us which vegetables we liked, he handled purchasing the groceries in Arabic language. Then he drove us back to his family apartment. His mother, girlfriend and younger siblings were present. We followed the mother's instructions to prepare the food. She showed us Moroccan pots and how to prepare the food on the stove top. Then we prepared homemade mint tea from local spices. We ate our meal, drank our tea and had small homemade dessert. Everything tasted amazing. We talked and shared information about our home countries. After dinner Anwar helped us purchase ferry tickets to Spain. That was a big bonus. I am in Spain tonight writing my review for them. I encourage people to book this cooking class if they want an authentic Moroccan experience. It is not flashy, it is not fake, it is very authentic.

      Authentic and delicious family-meal

      Tristan_v, Oct 2024
The guide was very friendly and his father, who received us in their house and helped prepare the meal, was very welcoming. We prepared a tajine together and got some explanation of the ingredients. All we had to do was cut the vegetables, so it was really more of a shared meal than a cooking class. While waiting for the meal to cook, the guide had to leave unfortunately, and were left with the father (who only spoke arabic) while enjoying tea and cookies. We shared the meal with the father and he showed us the way out of the Medina afterwards. While the meal was delicious, and the people very friendly, we expected a bit more (e.g., market visit, take-home recipes, and more than one dish). If you are looking for an authentic experience at a family-home; we'd recommend it. If you are looking to learn more about Moroccan cuisine and take-home recipes, perhaps look for other options.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re happy to hear that you enjoyed preparing and sharing the tajine with our family and that you found the atmosphere welcoming. We appreciate your feedback regarding expectations about market visits, multiple dishes, and take-home recipes. Our Tangier Private Cooking Class is designed as an authentic family-home experience where guests actively participate in preparing a traditional Moroccan meal and enjoy it together with our family, rather than a full professional cooking course. We hope you still enjoyed this authentic cultural experience, and we appreciate your understanding of the format we offer.

      Not really a cookery course

We had a nice time with Anwar and his family. They were very hospitable and were very kind to our son. We got to try some Moroccan sweets and Anwars mum cooked 2 types of tagine. We were hoping to actually cook some food and learn about the ingredients in Moroccan food which this trip did not provide. We went to the market but were given no information whilst there. We prepared some vegetables in Anwars living room but did not get to cook anything or even enter the kitchen. Anwar sadly didn't know the English names for the spices and herbs so we still don't know how to make the food we ate. I think £52 pp was too much for this trip.

      A great time

We had a great time seeing the food market and cooking with Anwar's family! We made Moroccan salad, chicken and olive tagine, and kebabs. The sweets and breakfast foods with mint tea were a delicious treat while the food was cooking!

Cooking tajin with a local family

      Yuriko_B, Jan 2024
More than a cooking class, the activity is cooking a family dinner with a local family at their place. The family is very welcoming and makes you feel home. We prepared a chicken tajin. The mother organized the food and gives you the instructions and prepares everything before your arrival. Then, we chopped together the vegetables and they offered us a mint tea with sweets while the tajin was cooking on the fire. After that, we eat together the tajin.

      Fun & authentic Moroccan cooking!

      Jeremy_O, Dec 2023
Our experience in this Moroccan family's home was truly amazing! They were very welcoming & informative & made us feel at home! Hannae is a chef at a 5-star hotel in Tangier, and is very knowledgeable and sweet! She taught us some cooking techniques & we wrote down recipes for fish tagine and Moroccan salad. She served us a delicious Moroccan breakfast & tea while she prepared the vegetables. We can't wait to try to recreate her recipe once we return home! Our guides picked us up from our Airbnb & took us back through the market places & medina on our way home for an intimate tour of tangier. We were able to purchase some organic Moroccan argon oil from a family business & a beautiful berber rug from a very welcoming shop for our guest bathroom. We didn't feel pressured to make purchases, and they showed us many of their offerings! Our guides spoke impressive English & were able to translate to keep conversation flowing easily. Would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys cooking & wants to expand their experiences in the kitchen! We will cherish the photos of us all in the kitchen forever!
