Mt. Etna hike

Our guide, Giuseppe, was very friendly and knowledgeable. He picked us up and was very professional. The hike along the Donkey's Back trail was a vigorous one with breathtaking views of crators and the valley with the lava flows. Giuseppe pointed out the different formations that the lava created along with the plants and animals we saw along the way. We had a fantastic visit to Mt. Etna. Thank you!

Giuseppe is an excellent tour guide. He is very knowledgeable about the history of Etna dating back 500,000 years to the present. The path that he took us on is not technical, and he is aware of clients' climbing ability, stopping at the right times for a rest break. He shared many photos he took during our tour, which will be happy reminders of that day on Etna.

This was a phenomenal tour. Guiseppe is an excellent guide who was extremely friendly and informative. Not only did he take us on a great hike, he was also able to give us detailed information about the history of Eta and the various types of volcanic rock, plants and fauna that can be found on it. The route he took us on also offered some spectacular views. It was a fantastic day which has given us memories we will always treasure. I would recommend this tour to anyone. Brendan

Unique daytrip to get up close and personal with a landscape few visitors to Italy or Sicily experience. Etna seems to get bigger the closer you get to it and feels like you've stepped onto another planet. Giuseppe was an excellent guide and provided helpful commentary throughout. Highly recommended.

What an amazing day with Giuseppe! Such a lovely guy, and so knowledgeable about Sicily, and about Etna. The 5km round trek was perfect for us (ages 18, 21, 53!) and we saw so much incredible stuff. We opted for the wine tasting/vineyard lunch afterwards, which was well deserved and delicious. Couldn’t imagine a better way to have spent our final day in Sicily!

Giuseppe was the best travel guide that we have met. One of the few hikes from Syracusa.. he looked after us so well from the moment he picked us up! We had the most wonderful day on Mt Etna with Guiseppe. I was delighted by the cool forest, the incredible views of the volcano and lava flows and quietness and peacefulness of the 6k walk we did. Guiseppe is an outstanding guide who I trusted completely. The walk was not difficult and he would gauge if we needed a rest stop. He was so informative, respectful, interesting, and great company. We had a great time with your guide Giuseppe who picked us up in Siracusa. Giuseppe is very knowledgeable about the history and geography of the region, which made the trip worth it. At Etna, we did a moderate hike that allowed us to greatly enjoy the panoramic view around Etna, especially the Bove Valley. I highly recommend this activity to visit Etna from Syracuse efficiently.

The tour was with Sicily Unearthed. Giuseppe was our guide, and he was great. He provided very interesting facts about Aetna, the surrounding area and Sicily. Had great general conversations on the way up and back. His English is very good. We hiked about 3 miles up and back (recommend good hiking shoes/boots) which was about 2.5 to 3 hours. Took short breaks along the way (female age 58). Reached about 2400 meters above sea level. We did not do the bus and rail to the top as not worth the crowds. Also can’t see crater if cloudy. Highly recommend if you like walking and nature.

Guissepe is personable,knowledeable and professional. On our tour to Etna he shared much information about the volcano and its origins. He knew all the right spots to take amazing pictures and where to stop just to enjoy the beauty of the landscape. His knowledge of endemic plant and animal species is amazing. He also has great knowledge of food and shared recipes and also great restaurant recommendations in Ortigia, where we stayed. He also shared much about Siracusa and the way of life. He is an excellent driver and my wife and I could not ask for a better guide.

Great trip to Etna. Our tour guide was exceptional! Got picked up at our airbnb location in syracuse and drove us safely all the way there. He answered all our questions and gave us even more info than we knew we wanted. Very friendly and knowledgeable. 10/10

Giuseppe was a first class guide - so knowledgeable about Etna and what we were seeing and took the 5km hike to Valle del Bove at a gentle pace. The weather was a bit changeable - wind, mist, rain then sun so a light waterproof and/or fleece and strong walking shoes or boots are essential as the terrain is quite rocky and uneven in parts. These can be hired from Refuguio Sapienza but wish we’d known about this beforehand as we could have brought our own. That said a really unique experience and one to treasure.
