Not just sampling the wine but learning about the process in a fun and interesting way.
It is out of the way but that is part of the fun, we caught the train from Strasbourg and arrived early for lunch.

Off the beaten track excellence - we booked this tasting as the only option I could find for a Sunday in the region. We wanted a private picked up tour from Strasbourg but there were none available on a Sunday. We later learnt that practically all small towns close on a Sunday! So we were excited to find this one.
We trained from Strasbourg to Barr (40min train ride) thinking we would walk around Barr explore. But nothing is open in Barr on Sunday. We walked from Bar to Gertwiller for the tasting (20min) and although we were early we could purchase a glass of wine and sit on the terrace.
The tasting experience was fantastic and interactive. Started by walking out to the vineyard and then into the cellars. Their interactive film was really informative. The first one was quite simple about basic wine making practised (a little too basic for anyone that knows wine) but still fun because of the great host. The second film in the barrel store was great as we learnt of the estates history.
Wines were great and we purchased a few bottles that we could enjoy on holiday. We had to leave quickly to make our train back, but the whole experience was great. The closest train station at Gertwiller was only a 8min walk.
Overall- very happy with the experience- but people need to know that nothing is open on a Sunday in these areas.

It would have been very helpful to make it clear—and would be very easy to put in the description--that it is 17km from town center. Our group of 6 did not have time (or alternatively wish to pay 51EU each way) to get there. We cancelled the tour and basically lit the money it cost on fire.

I’m sorry but it is well written in the description that we are in Gertwiller or 20min from Strasbourg. You also automatically receive an email from us that gives you all the possibilities to come to us:
Either by taxi or Uber at the rate is 50€ max for 4 people and not 50€/pers...
You also have the possibility to come by train, we have in our village also a station.
You could cancel your service in a specified time but you must respect the cancellation conditions of viator!
For your information, the trip is your responsibility and does not have to be judged in my performance. I think it’s too bad to put a bad note on our experience when you haven’t experienced it!

What a wonderful expereince learning and tasting wines. I ended up getting a private tour because no one else booked. I appreciate them not canceling or charging more for one person. The wines were so good, I bought some to take back with me. Highly reccomended. Wish the food pairing was part of mine (it was sold out) but happy with how it turned out

We had a lovely visit to this winery. They tour was well prepared and we learned new things about Alsace region wines. The tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable about the process. I could personally benefit more from the taste of each wine and more information in the texture.

Marie was friendly, knowledgeable , lovely to spend time with. The winery is able to be reached easily by train and a short walk so ideal. Wines were delicious all, we tasted a good number.

Enjoyed the tour that Victor gave. Interesting history of the winery but I did not realize it was not in Strasbourg but Gertweiller, a 30 minute train ride from Strasbourg

Nice guy our guide Arthur. Whole tour was a bit short. And almost half of it was about the place's history. I would like more about the actual winery part. It is more exciting if you are new to the wine world but a little boring to those who have a greater level already. At any case it is a positive experience

Great wine tour and tasting for the seasoned wine lover and novice alike. I visited with my family - including a toddler and my mother who only drinks wine at church and on holidays - and we all really liked it. I visited several other vineyards and wineries across the US and Germany and never experienced such a comprehensive and engaging explanation from the soil to the grape to the bottle and history of the house (wine maker). Sizable tasting portions and all purposefully selected to supplement that portion of the tour.
Just a short trip outside of Strasbourg- highly recommend!

Incredible experience! I had to take a train from where I was staying in Strasbourg and was so worth it. I was the only person who showed up for the French tour and instead of sending me with the English tour that started about 30 mins later, they allowed me to practice my French with the tour guide (Catherine), who was so so patient with me. I got a completely individualized tour and I would LOVE to come back. I even bought some gifts from the shop for loved ones.

The tasting was informative and entertaining. Excellent meal (platter for one shared between 2) and a glass after the tasting. One of those rare experiences that is worth a lot more than the money you pay for it.
