Terrible experience of local bars in St Kitts

JAYMA_M, Jan 2026
We had a very Interesting day spent with Joesph. We started off at the port shopping area of St Kitts and had a delicious Rum/Pineapple drink. There was no seating for the 6 of us so most of us just stood & huddled at the bar in the shade. We jumped in an older van that was clean but very basic. Joesph drove us around showing us and local an explaining the local area. We asked him to put some local music on but there was no radio. Second stop was at a local bar that was clean and located across the street from an elementary school. We had a different rum drink at this stop and chatted with a few locals. Ok stop. Off we went to the 3rd location and that one was really rough!! Deep in the Hood of the city where the bar tender was not prepared for us when we arrived. Very old unclean building/bar. He had to go across the street to get a bag of ice and some mixers. He put everything on the bar including the bag of ice for us to make our own drinks. 😳 ( The only good thing about that was that we knew everything was unopened and safe to drink). There was a “Lady of the Day” waiting to be picked up for her “next gig” if you will hanging around the bar area. Not Good!! The bathroom was horrible too. Our 30 yr old daughters were very comfortable and my husband and I were not pleased with the entire scene so told Joesph we wanted to leave. We spent only about left 15 mins at this stop, 16 mins too long!!! Last stop was at a nice safe beach. Joesph prepared a premixed jug of a rum drink that was called “the Holy Ghost”. It was sweet and tasty. This was a nice stop and we felt safe. I would not recommend this tour if safety and cleanliness is a concern of yours. We weren’t interested in getting smashed so this wasn’t really the tour for us. Bummer as we paid over $1000 for this experience. Total waste of money.

Blessings , Firstly! We appreciate your review. This was a Rum Tour, not fine dining, at a bar there a people around a bar. We are a small an proud people here. If you wanted to Rent couple of bars for yourself, you could have for couple of thousands of dollars, we can't 🛑 stop them for having anyone else at bars. The idea of the Rum Tour, is to enjoy some good rum, like the locals, never had a complain before of the Rum 🥃 Tour Please! I beg you too get a bar owner's who will rent out there bars. Just for you! There was more Rum on the bus, water 💦 coke to mix Rum, Ting with the sting, oh! It was not a jug ,it was a bottle of "Holy Ghost Rum Punch "you gotten fresh bread, bag chips, you had a tour, with one of our best team members Guess you all are very, very high class, we are a simple team. Thanks much We will try harder But sometimes our best is not enough.

Fantastic and fun tour

From the moment we got off the boat and met Annie she was bright, bubbly and welcoming. The tour consisted of four bar stops to try different rum cocktails and from the best vantage point of the island, Annie gave us her homemade ghost punch which was hands down the best of the lot. Annie is very sensible in ensuring people are not stupidly drunk, providing food and plenty of water throughout the trip. We particularly liked that the bars were not all tourist hotspots. It was a great mix of experiencing the local and tourist bars. While driving between each bar, Annie was very knowledgeable on the history island and gave us loads of information throughout. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to experience the island and it's history with a bit of a fun twist. We have recommended to our parents when they go in February and I also recommend to anyone reading this!

Annie is fun and sassy

Great time had by all! Good history of the island and great stops for good rum drinks. Annie's rum punch was by far the best, however the recipe remains a secret.

Switched to a diferrent excursions

patriciamrangel2019, Oct 2019
I would have given an excellent rating with the exception that we ended up in a diferrent tour. When reconfirming I was told that there where not enough ppl for the tour so was given the option to join a full day tour of the island. It was a good tour, but not as fun as a rum tour would have been. Also once I got home I checked the prices and the tour we took was cheaper than the one we originally booked 😒.

Response from Host, Oct 2019

Thank you @patricia for your review. We appreciate all the feedback received from our passengers. We would like to apologize for the inconvenience where you did not going on the tour you paid for due to insufficient numbers. We do hope that you enjoyed the tour and let us know if we can assist with making your experience much better. Again, we are sorry for this inconvenience and do hope that you will return to St. Kitts for another trip.

Have you ever watched Drunk History on TV? That's what this tour felt like.

If you like to drink and learn a little bit as you go, this is a great tour. Annie, our guide, was knowledgeable and funny. She took us to five different stops where you're not sampling, you're given full on rum drinks. By the end of the afternoon, if you're not careful, you can get a little crazy. My favorite stop was Lover's Bar. That's also where things came a little undone. When we arrived, the bar proprietor put a bag of ice, a bottle of dark rum and four bottles of Ting soda on the bar. He cranked up the awesome reggae tunes and it was basically self-serve. Later, he brought out some moonshine for the group to taste and fed us chicken wings. My advice, should you decide to take this tour, would be to moderate (especially at Lover's) and drink water in the van between stops. A fun afternoon for sure.

Annie’s island!!!

Anne tour guide was the best - very informative and had a blast. She kept us out longer than allowed so we tipped her well. Drinks were tasty. 2 of the bars were tourist bars and the other 2 were local bars and those were the best. Being able to drink among the locals and experience their culture was awesome. The chicken legs that we ate at Lovers Lounge were tasty. Great job in your cooking skills Kendall.

What a terrific tour led by the amazing and delightful Annie! Our group of four met up with Annie at the designated pre-tour location about 10 minutes early - we were joined shortly thereafter by another couple from another cruise ship in port that day January 22, 2018. Annie waited for another 20 minutes for a group of five who were supposed to join us, but they never showed up. Even after she took us to our first rum stop - Cheers, located within the Port Zante cruise / shopping area - she went back to see if her tardy customers had made an appearance. I include this here to attest to how long she waited for these customers, who as far as I know, never contacted her about their change in plans for the day. It was evident to us that Annie takes her business and her reputation seriously, and she takes amazing care of her clients. We had a delightful day with her touring St Kitts, learning about the island's culture and history, sampling incredible rum drinks, and meeting other island residents. Our stops included Cheers Port Zante Tony's Basseterre Lover's Bar ... don't recall exactly where on the island this was located but they served a mean Ting with a Sting and the best fried chicken we've ever eaten Vibes Frigate Bay and a gorgeous spot where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Caribbean Sea - this is where Annie served us her secret rum punch. If you are looking for a fun way to explore the island while sampling some delicious rum beverages, this is the tour for you - you will not be disappointed in Annie or her tour!

Our guide, Annie, was awesome! Our ship docked in a different area for some reason, but when we walked off the ship we spotted her right away. The tour started out exactly right with a rum punch emphasis on the rum!. Annie took us all over and told us all about her beautiful island. We stopped at Lover's Bar for our second drink. We had lots of time for pictures and a few stops to see the sites. I'm not sure the name of the third drink but it was great. We had time to shop a bit before Annie took us back to our ship. I'm cruising to St Kitts next year and have already suggested this tour to my travel companion.
