Walling tour, some steps. Knowledgeable guide w engaging demeanor. Provided extensive history and cultural context to this amazing archeological gem.

History based with added culture insights. Ante found all the shady spots which gave a layer of comfort on a hot day.

We recently took a 90-minute walking tour of Diocletian’s Palace and had an excellent experience. Our guide, Ante, was extremely informative, engaging, and clearly passionate about the history of Split and the palace itself. The tour was very interesting from start to finish, and we learned far more than we would have exploring on our own. It was absolutely worth the cost and a great way to experience the history and culture of the area. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful walking tour of Split with Slavko. He was friendly, knowledgeable and funny! There were only six of us so we had plenty of opportunities to ask questions and get them answered. It was very enjoyable and inexpensive.

Great introduction to the Diocletian palace and Split. Ivanna was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The private tour is the way to go!

The tour guide, Karla, did a fantastic job. Not too fast and not too slow. Just perfect. She explained things very well. She gave references for lunch, etc. all around it was very nice.

This was a fantastic experience! Ante, our tour guide, was a knowledgeable and enthusiastic student of history, passionate about his hometown of Split- we learned so much!
Barry_Y, Sep 2025
Carla was so knowledgeable and easy to hear. She is a great tour guide. Palace is so interesting. Liked the common areas the best and the guards in costume.
Rachel_T, Sep 2025
We learned so much and loved exploring the old town. The only thing that would have made the tour better are the headphones to be able to hear every fact (especially in the more populated areas).

Fun and informative guide, early morning tour avoided the crowds. Bring a hat, glasses or umbrella to avoid the sun.

Great tour by Slavko. Engaging and fun, but we also learned a lot! Slavko was very knowledgeable and took the time to answer questions from the group.

Exceptional. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable of the history of the area and times. Very organized. Note* Don’t put the meet up address into your map app. It took us to a restaurant location and we only figured out it was the wrong location last minute in time to get to the right place.

We got lots of information about everything the Palace has to offer! The only thing that rubbed our group the wrong way was the discouragement to visit or try many of the things the palace offers because our guide did not like their political reasonings

Excellent tour. Our guide, Ante, was fantastic! Very energetic, passionate, and knowledgeable on the history of the palace.

Tour of Diocletian Palace with history to inform your experience. Visited all gates, highlights and basement to gain perspective
Anna_M, May 2025
Frane was so great! It was a small tour of just six people, which was fabulous. So glad we did this!
DrJohn_C, May 2025
Very informative - learned a lot about Croatian history, not just the palace. Our guide (Marino?) was excellent, looking after us, making sure we kept out of the warm sunshine as much as possible. He was very informative and spoke confidently so it was a surprise to hear it was only his second tour.

We toured Diocletian’s palace in Split. Very informative and good orientation to our time in Split. Slavco was entertaining, engaging and knowledgeable.
Mathys_B, Dec 2024
We enjoyed that the trip was at our pace with enough information to suite our needs and to enable us to know our way around the old town.
Michelle_H, Dec 2024
This was a great tour. The guide was knowledgeable and kept us laughing with the way he described the history. I always appreciate a non-lecture style of walking tour and 90 mins was the perfect amount of time with a good flow. Slavko is an excellent tour guide!

Our tour guide Jacob was excellent. Very informative and gave us alot of history and interesting facts.

Fantastic walking tour of Diocletian’s palace. Our guide was knowledgeable and funny, gracious and genial. We considered not booking because it called for rain but figured it was our only chance to go. It did rain but it was fine as there are plenty of places that are covered. Highly recommend this tour!

Very interesting place. The area has so much history Guide was good. Private tour we did much better than the large groups
Henry_E, Sep 2024
Well informed hostess with a very pleasant, engaging manner gave us all the relevant information in an easily understandable and interesting way.
Lina_P, Sep 2024
Great history tour! The guide was very knowledgeable on all the aspects of history and culture. Nice personality and attention to detail. Fun tour!
Beatrice_R, Aug 2024
It was OK, but I found that our tour guide FRANE spoke way too quickly and sometimes swallowed his words, it was hard to follow him. I wish he could have said some interesting things also for the kids to try to draw them in a bit. It was also sometimes hard to hear him. Some electronic device / earpiece would have made it bettter.

Private torus was best for our family of 6 people with a little kid. We took our time and Antonia was a great guide!
Leigh_M, Aug 2024
Even in the rain our guide navigated our group and made it still at great experience! Highly recommend visiting the palace

The Diocletian Palace is a must-see if you visit Dalmatia. The entrance is free, so you can see it yourself, but you will miss a lot of historical background. So a tour seems like a wise choice, but the value of the experience depends on the quality of the guide. Our guide was a local history teacher who had truly complete knowledge of Split. She knew not only the standard material, but was able to add perspectives to our questions, like the events in the war in 1991.
I cannot vouch for any other guides, but if the others have the same level the Viator tour is definitely worth the money (1-2 Euros more than other companies).
