Our day started with the Lava tunnels this was a great experience especially after seeing the Lava Show the night before. Our tour guide into the tunnels was very informative. The later portion of our day was snorkeling at the silfra fissure which in January has its challenges like frozen suits which are hard to put on and freezing while you wait to get into the water but the views while snorkeling will worth it! Our bus driver for the day was so informative with Iceland's history we enjoyed hearing everything about the land, culture and people.

Buyer Beware Arctic Adventures

Gary_P, Aug 2025
The Lava Tube was amazing. Incredible and enjoyable. Our guide was awesome. The snorkeling tour on the other hand was unbelievably disorganized. They packed to many tours to close together. None of the staff took the time to properly fit us, most suits were still wet, damp or being used. I had to insist on a proper fitting as they put me in a suit initially that was way too big. The equipment is in rough shape half of the undergarments were missing zippers and the staff stated it wasn't important. This would prove to be incredibly wrong in about an hour. Nothing was fit correctly. Our staff member was very helpful and nice but the equipment failed on me once we got about 20 minutes into the swim. My suit started leaking and at this point I had to swim the rest of the way in order to finish. I was soaked all the way to my socks. For the amount of money we paid this was unacceptable. My wife's suit faired well thankfully. However this company Arctic Adventures needs to replace a lot of their equipment, this is unsafe and could result in a serious incident or death if it was someone who was smaller and had less body heat. This needs to be reported to the agency that monitors tourism and activity. Please be advised if you book through this app you have no choice in the expedition company. The other surrounding companies looked liked their equipment was much much better. This was unsafe. To her credit my instructor got us out of the water as quickly as she could. However, if this had happened to my wife's suit I may have reacted differently. Buyer Beware.

Both Lava Tunnel tour & Sifra Snorkeling are unforgettable unique experiences..... A tad challenging for old people, but for kids and adults, unmissable

Enjoyed both activities but waiting at bakery for 2 hours wasn’t pleasant.

Megan_S, Jun 2025
The lava tunnel was neat but different than I expected. Snorkeling was absolutely amazing! I loved that our guide Oliver took some photos during the adventure. I wish I would have booked them separately as waiting almost 2 hours at a bakery with no bathroom was not pleasant.

Do it! But not with arctic adventures!

Shavit_L, May 2025
The experiences themselves were 5 stars, 6 if possible. However, the organizing company - Arctic Adventures was extremely unprofessional, rude at times and put a damper on an otherwise great day. We didn't use their shuttle service as we have our van we are roadtripping with so when arriving at the cave (as requested 15 mins before start time) we were very much surprised to hear our "group" had actually arrived much earlier and had started the cave tour without us, we had to wait an hour to join the next tour. The cave was beautiful, guide was knowledgeable, entertaining and our time underground was a fantastic experience. After this we had to rush to the snorkeling site to be there at the appointed time only to discover that our reservation was changed without our knowledge to a later time. The snorkeling guide was not helpful and honestly quite rude about the situation. After some coaxing we managed to join our original snorkeling time with a rather dismissive unpleasant guide. The snorkeling itself was fantastic and we can not recommend it enough, definitely make sure you get a tour with pix cause it's worth it. BUT DO NOT BOOK WITH ARCTIC ADVENTURES!

Must Do Activity

Courtney_M, May 2025
If I could rate this a 100/5 stars I would. This is a once in a lifetime experience. The lava tunnel team created an atmosphere that was educational while also adventurous. The snorkeling was so unique! My husband and I were nervous about the cold at first but if you listen to the instructors it’s really only your hands and face getting wet. The team breaks you into such small groups you feel like you’re getting a very personal experience with a professional team. I am so glad we booked this tour! It’s something we will always share as a must do activity with future travelers.

We had a great time. The trip into the lava tunnels was very a great way to start the day and snorkeling between the tectonic plates was a once in a lifetime experience!

Fun but confusing

Gloria_s, Aug 2024
The tours were each fun . But when booking they don’t tell you that your on 2 different tours and we didn’t have any idea about how we meet the second half of the tour . Not very clear on the itinerary

Cold but AMAZING

Jennifer_D, Dec 2022
The snorkeling was one of the coolest things I’ve ever experienced! While it was cold, the tour guides tell you exactly what you need to do to have the best experience in the water. I would HIGHLY recommend.

Cool experience, but no photos and rude guide.

Kasey_S, Oct 2022
The actual experience of snorkeling was very amazing. Our guide was very rude to us and our group of four did not get any photos. It was a real shame because all the other maybe 50 or so people there that day did get photos and their guides seemed quite nice. I think it was a matter of us having a bad tour guide. But when I contacted customer service about our experience they offered us nothing and didn’t even apologize for the tour guides attitude towards us. Three of four of us also ended up lost in a cove so the guidance wasn’t super great during the tour either.

Worth it!!

Kavya_M, Jul 2022
This entire trip was just amazing! Our guide for the lava caving was very funny and had great fun facts. The snorkeling experience was incredible! The water was just so beautifully clear. Can't recommend enough! Mino and Fede were awesome 👍

Only half hour at actual activity and wetsuit with hole in it that they were aware of, I was the lucky one who got said suit

Pros and Cons

Lucille_K, May 2022
Hey there. I had the BEST tour guides. They were funny, spirited, and had the Icelandic history down pat. However, I didn't appreciate getting water all in my dry suit. Despite the stunning views below, losing feeling in my hands and arms dampened this quite a bit.

Cave was very nice, especially in winter. Make sure you have medical approval for snorkling, then it's very nice to do once.

10/10 experience

Bridget_Q, Feb 2022
The snorkling was one of the best things we have ever done! The wetsuits worked wonders and kept us warm. The water was crystal clear and it was just an otherworldly experience swimming through 2 tectonic plates! Our guide Siggy was fantastic and very helpful and patient! He was also very nice and took photos of us. 10/10 would recommend to anyone and would definitely do it again!

Amazing

Michael_S, Aug 2019
This tour was our favorite. Hiking in The cave was a lot of fun and very interesting. The Snorkerling was the best. We were all a little nervous about Snorkerling in near freezing water but it was fine. The views were incredible! It’s the clearest water ever and you can drink it. I highly recommend this for the adventurous family!!

Cali girl birthday trip!

Marcelena C, Nov 2018
Kevin was our guide and he was amazing!!! Assured us if our safety, gave through instructions, made you feel safe and came to get me when the windy water became rough. This excursion was one not to miss even though the suit was super restrictive and tight around the neck but I guess it’s supposed to be that way, they doubled checked mine. Great adventure

educational and fun!

arwengreensley, Aug 2018
We enjoyed Jonas and Apollo's tour of the lava cave where we learned quite a lot about lava, and did some good exercise crawling through the caves. The snorkeling trip was really well organized and an excellent experience to have!

Badass experience

Andoni_G, Aug 2018
This was a much cooler experience than I expected. Lava caving you actually climb around in underground tunnels and get dirty. You experience complete darkness and sensory deprivation and get to learn a TON about volcanic activity and the formation of the tunnels. The guides were both incredibly cool and extremely knowledgable.Silfra was cold. No other way to put it. But that was by far the clearest water I've ever seen in my life. The instructors were super funny and pretty awesome people. There isn't life under there which is a bit unfortunate, but it was still an experience worth doing.

A Must Do Adventure - Great Experience!!!!

Robert_S, Jul 2018
We had a great day!! Our guides, Mikka, Becca and Lena were all terrific. Taz, the woman who prepared and accompanied us snorkeling could not have been any nicer and prepared us well for the adventure we were about to undertake. Our group of six adults (my wife and I and our daughter and son and their spouses) all had a terrific time and felt it was a once in a lifetime experience!!!

Amazing trip. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and was very passionate about the volcanoes, caves, and lava tube. You could tell she loved what she was doing and was joyful to share everything she knew with us. Snorkeling was also incredible, you could see clearly for well over 50 meters.

Faith_S, Apr 2018
Loved the lava caving! Birka not sure about spelling! was a wonderful guide. Snorkeling was a lot of work to get suited up and our snorkel was very short. Our group was split and half our group went out ahead yet we finished at same time and no pictures were taken but were with the other half of our group so seemed our group was rushed.

Day Trip was well organized. but not the Silfra part that was very disorganized. the guides in the lake were unfriendly, we did not feel comfortable and safe. in my experience we were to much people to handle so we did not have good explanation what i consider very important for the succeed. One of the guide tour was complaining to much about customers. the time we have to expand to get the dry clothes is to much not well organize..Everything was in a mess. The place is not the optimus. I have a terrible time and not recommend the tour with lot of people because impossible to have good experience. I have to recognize our guide Kristine was excellent and very helpfully

Not key sites you need to see but was amazing to rock climb through a lava cave. Took forever to get settled at the snorkeling place and get in the uncomfortable gear, listen to instructions and get into water but as soon as you look under water it was 100% worth it!
