Download the audio guide using the WR code found at the front desk. Or you can get the ON Geothermal Exhibit app. There is so much info that you will miss if you don’t use the audio guide.

Ok to visit if within proximity or close by. Very close to MegaZipline, so doable. Good educational experience for kids

    Fascinating and inspiring.

The cold water, hot water and steam valve interactive display really illustrated the entire process for me.

Very informative. Recommend getting the headsets-no extra cost- as you will get more detailed information than the displays alone. Took us about an hour to do.

    It's worth it

    Tracey_C, Aug 2023
It was very interesting and informative. I learned a lot about the importance of Geo thermal energy to Iceland. While I wish you could go into plant it was still a cool experience.

    Response from Host, Aug 2023

Thank you for your review, we're happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit to the exhibition. Unfortunately due to safety and security reasons, it is not allowed to go into the actual power plant - but we offer views into both turbine halls, and from the back decks you can see pipe systems, separation tanks, a steam regulator, and cooling towers. Have a great day, and thank you for visiting us at the exhibition!

    It’s worth the visit

Wonderful architecture, very nice display. The video art is marvelous. Everything is well explained.

Thank you for your review! We're happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit to the exhibition.

    Interesting exhibit

    Stan_M, Jul 2022
it is worthwhile if you have a deep interest in geology or natural sciences. You just show up, they give you a ticket and you walk around and read the storyboards and watch the educational film. it is not a tour, per se. Smaller than I had expected. Very quiet. Few people.

    Response from Host, Jul 2022

Thank you for your review! We're happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit to the exhibition - we do have a self-guided audio tour that is included in the entry fee. Otherwise our staff is on hand to answer any questions you may have during your visit :) We hope that you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Iceland, and thank you for visiting us.

    Its a self audio...

    Ricardo_M, Jul 2022
Its a self audio exhibition, you see the turbines from a look out but there is no one there to guide you or to ask question. Its not bad but was thinking that you could see more of the actual plant, you see it from a lookout.

    Response from Host, Jul 2022

Thank you for providing us with this feedback, though we are sorry to hear that we didn't live up to your expectations. The entry ticket is for a self-guided audio tour, which is an app that you can download onto your phone. While this is a self-guided tour, our staff is on hand at the front desk and they are always happy to answer any questions you may have during your visit. We are quite surprised to hear that no one was there to answer questions - there is always at least one staff member on duty at the front desk specifically for this purpose. If you still have any questions we would be more than happy to answer them if you send us an email to syning@or.is. Due to safety and security reasons it is not possible to go into the actual plant (even our exhibition staff cannot enter). You can though see into the high and low pressure turbine halls from the third floor, and from the outer observation decks you can see the pipes, separation tanks, cooling towers, and scrubbing tower. We hope that you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Iceland, and thank you for visiting us.

It was an exhibition, a nice one, but very little viewing of the plant.

    Matthew_V, Jul 2022
The experience was not what I was expecting, I have done tours of hydro plants before and they were excellent, this was more of an exhibition connected to a geothermal power plant. I would have liked to walk around the plant as I have seen others do.

    Response from Host, Jul 2022

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback - though we are sorry to hear that we did not live up to your expectations. We are in fact an exhibition that is connected to a geothermal power plant, so that description of this activity is spot on. When you book the entry fee it does say that it is an exhibition, but we will look in to how that can be clearer. The inner workings of a geothermal plant are a bit different to hydro plants and it is not really possible to compare the two in this way. Due to safety and security reasons, no one is allowed to actually enter the plant other than the certified employees who have gone through extensive training and safety courses (even our exhibition staff cannot enter). We hope that you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Iceland, and thank you for visiting us.

Great insight into this fascinating plant

    Jacki_M, Feb 2022
Fascinating. The staff member was very knowledgeable, but if a tour group wasn't there, we would have had to listen to the audio tour. The website said to bring headphones, but really they wanted you to bring a device (phone, ipad, etc.) that could connect to the internet to download. That was a problem because we hadn't brought those for our kids.

    Response from Host, Mar 2022

Hi Jacki, thank you for the review! We're glad that you enjoyed your visit and will pass the compliments along to our staff. Thank you for letting us know about the confusion with the website - we will make sure to update the text to be clearer. We hope that you and your family enjoyed the rest of your stay in Iceland, and thank you for visiting the exhibition!
