      Geothermal National park was better

      Jackie_C, Apr 2026
Walk to the geyser was a little disappointing and the geyser was actually harder to see because of the lights. It was majestic but hard to distinguish the water from the steam. Hot rocks seating was cool!!

      Response from Host, Apr 2026

Tēnā koe (hello), Thanks for sharing your thoughts, really appreciate you taking the time. Sorry to hear the the lighting made it a bit harder to see clearly. The geyser can be pretty powerful but yeah sometimes the steam can make it tricky to fully take in. Glad to hear you enjoyed the hot rock seating though, that’s always a favourite spot to relax and take it all in. Kia pai te rā (have a nice day)

Friendly, helpful staff who explained everything well and who were located at various points throughout the trail. It helped make the trail feel safe and secure. Wonderful light show that highlighted the geothermal area. Enjoyed being able to go at your own pace and enjoy the experience.

Takes about an hour to go around possibly more if the Geyser erupts. Luckily we did have chance to see it albeit I think it would have been disappointing had we not done so

tēnā koe (hello), We're so glad to hear you enjoyed Mārama Geyser Night Trail, it really is something special after dark. The lighting through the trees and steam gives the whole place a different feeling and the geothermal areas at night can feel pretty powerful. Those calm evenings let you really slow down and take it all in, Ngā mihi for coming to Te Puia and for sharing your experience with us, it means a lot. kia pai te rā (have a nice day)

      Disappointed

      Deborah_C, Oct 2025
It was quite a disappointment compared to how impressive it looked in the photos. We went at 8:30pm and it was extremely dark, with very little lighting anywhere except around the heated stones near the geyser viewing area. There were staff positioned around the place who greeted us, but that was the extent of the interaction. For $99, I expected a lot more. Personally, I don’t think it was worth the price, and the promotional photos feel quite misleading compared to the actual experience. More lighting and clearer expectations beforehand would have made a big difference.
