Fun, informative day in Santo Domingo

Roberta_A, Feb 2026
Great overview of the city, history, and sites. Guide was great! Need to be fit—going up many flights of steep steps.

The tip guy is annoying

Gabriel_S, Apr 2025
I did make it to Santo Domingo and back as promised, which is definitely a positive. However, the overall experience left much to be desired. The bus was extremely uncomfortable for a ride that lasted over two hours each way. The seats were clearly not designed for adults — it felt like they were made for one and a half people, with half of me sitting off the edge the whole time. What made the trip even more exhausting was the constant pressure for tips, repeated over and over in a tone that felt almost threatening. There were even two signs inside the bus asking for tips, so the extra verbal insistence was really unnecessary. We had incredibly long stops at souvenir shops with outrageously overpriced items — clearly a trap for tourists. As for the historical part of the tour, it barely scratched the surface. Instead of diving into the rich history of Santo Domingo, the guide mostly talked about celebrities who had filmed or visited there, and famous baseball players. To top it off, on the way back, the driver didn’t turn on the air conditioning. The bus felt like a sauna the entire ride home. In summary, I wouldn’t recommend this tour unless the company seriously improves the comfort and focus of the experience.

It’s a scam they don’t show up

Gerald_S, Dec 2024
Please don’t ever book with this provider. They won’t show up at the hotel to pick you up. I was advised by tour or concierge that these provider is terrible. I wished I have listened to the Hotel concierge about this tour provider because they warned me about booking with this tour provider . On the day of my tour, We where at the hotel lobby as scheduled and waited for over an hour they did’nt show up and the hotel concierge tried to contact them for over 30 mins didn’t answer. They finally got them after about an hour after the schedule time and they said they the driver was at the hotel without any proof. Then, they wanted to scheduled it for another day. I rejected the offer and requested a full refund. Please Viator this provider needs to be removed because they are terrible. They don’t ever require 1 star.

Hot Day, Cool People

Ashlea_J, Aug 2024
Great day trip. Very nice drivers and Victor, the tour guide for the day, was excellent. He was so kind and took his time to explain everything in Spanish and English. Santo Domingo is a beautiful city with a rich history. Everyone we met was very nice and the lunch buffet was celebrated many of the culinary traditions of the country. I would definitely recommend this tour.

Great time

Robert_B, May 2024
Had a lovely time. Got to see and got told a lot of information. Tour guide was fantastic. ( I think his name was Mike). Had a little wait after pick up (which was on time) to transfer into another bus. Which was done efficiently. Only down side which was not the fault of anyone was, our bus had taken a puncture, so this delayed us a little in getting back, but our Guide stayed with us till there was another vehicle to get us back.

Great highlights of Santa Domingo---very educational

JONNA_R, Apr 2024
Leo was excellent----great historian and friendly host for the tour!! Nice time exploring the history and culture.

Long but memorable day in Santo Domingo.

Dawna_S, Mar 2024
Memorable. But long day trip to Santo Domingo. From hotel to hotel it was about 12 hours. Took some time for the driver to get us and to pick one other up and drop one off along the way. Once we actually got into Santo Domingo, we met with the best guide ever Miguel. We started off at the national park where the caverns were absolutely spectacular. Miguel was sure to point out the history of that particular area. After that, we stopped off at a few historical areas like the Columbus mausoleum, the presidential Palace, all along the way, telling us the history of the areas and then stopped off at a quaint little place for lunch. Proceeded to the Santo Domingo sign, saw the church in the Godfather, the first City Hall, and then proceeded to one of the first cathedrals ever built. The cathedral was spectacular. Stopped for a beverage and souvenir shop. Only unfortunate part of the trip was one of our travel companions, put her card into an ATM and couldn’t get it back. Highly recommend you bring cash if needed and not use any ATM in the Dominican Republic. Was a long two hours back, but definitely worth the day. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water. Definitely worth it if you’re wanting to learn the history of the Dominican.

Great day out

Christine_B, Jan 2024
Guide was brilliant, lots information on the caves and Santa Domingo. Lovely lunch stop with lots of choice and facilities. Santa Domingo was lovely in the centre and our Guide provided information on the place and the outskirts of the centre which was interesting. It took 2 hours at start of day before we eventually set off with bus changes but once allocated the driver was the same from there on to end of day and he was lovely. Very long day though, 12 hour's

It was fun, there was a lot to see and the guide was very informative. The only thing I would say is that you should wear comfortable shoes

Good to walk around the old city

Maria_T, Dec 2023
Good tour around Christopher Columbus lighthouse and lovely place for lunch, but we were not told the night before that three eyes lake will be closed. On the day the national palace was also closed.

Ariadne_C, Oct 2023
Amazing tour and our guide Victor was amazing and so friendly. And our driver very nice to. Pick up time was on time. And all the places we went.

A Great Tour

AndrewJ_B, Sep 2023
All of tour stops were great. The day went by very fast. The only issue, and this had nothing to do with the tour, was the heat. Be prepared to drink a lot of water and keep cool. The history provided by the tour guide were insightful at the various stops. If you have the opportunity, go and enjoy yourselves.

Discovering the city of Santo Domingo with its beautiful colonial buildings and interesting history.

Lots of time on the bus

Michael_S, Dec 2022
The tour was not quite as described. We spent a lot of time in the bus and kept switching coaches and were very crowded on the bus (people sitting on the steps and extra seats squeezed in). The guide spoke Spanish and it felt like an afterthought when he translated something to English. He basically brought us to very specific shops that he seemed to have a relationship with (kickbacks?) even though there were varied (and cheaper) shops literally around the corner.

Great tour

Paschasia_S, Dec 2022
Good driver, rodolphus, tour guide great. Nice lunch restaurant in colonial part. I have seen lots of caves but this one is special.

Would not go again

Vanessa_E, Nov 2022
Tour guide was nice and accommodating to everyone even though his English wasn't the best. The only thing I didn't like about the tour was the fact that they didn't offer any water or anything on the ride. We walked for hours in the heat and nothing provided

Santo Domingo Tour

Mario_A, Aug 2022
Driver was very nice and helpful. The guide was awesome he was very knowledgeable and held us with our bags Jose the guide and Luis the driver were excellent

Awful

Mario_C, Aug 2022
Viator is the worst ever...the transport didn't show up at our hotel...they SUCK...I recommend you never use VIATOR they are liars and irresponsible...they are allowed inside of Melia wellness cause it appears they don't transport insurance worst expurience ever. Viator sucks Viator sucks Viator sucks

Response from Host, Aug 2022

Hello Mario, we explained to you 3 times that the pick-up point was outside the hotel since your Melia hotel does not allow us to pick you up in the lobby since they sell the same excursion much more expensive. Your Melia hotel wants to force you to bought more expensive from them as I had already explained. Anyway your money was refunded. Sorry for the inconvenience caused

Good tour

Can_P, Jul 2022
We joined the tour on our honeymoon. It was so smooth, we were picked up from our hotel in Punta Cana and we travelled as a small group. Except the fact that the restaurant emplyees were rude and the driver was driving so aggressively, everything was great. Also for the prices, it was cheaper than what our hotel was offering.

I want start off my saying that Miguel and Leo were both amazing. This excursion was so educational and fun . I would totally do this again. If you don’t really like to walk a lot I wouldn’t recommend but it is totally worth it.

under expectation, driver was driving extremally reckless. Glad that I brought travel insurance in case something happened during this tour.

Great tour but long day

jfiddaman, May 2022
The overall experience was really good but there was a lot of waiting around and unnecessary stops without any explanation as to why. Once we got to the city the guide was great and we had a good time but there was a lot of stopping in “shops of friends” to encourage you to part with your cash

Knowledgeable Tour Guide

Kayon_M, Apr 2022
I had a great time. The tour guide was excellent and helped me find everything I requested from Taino art to Cigars! The trip was worth it to see Santo Domingo, I recommend it!

Joanne_M, Mar 2022
Transport well organized, but long drive, bus a bit cramped and music blaring made it hard to bear. Driver was thoughtful in respect to toilet breaks and organising hotel drop offs. Our tour guide was fantastic, spoke Spanish and English. Well organized with entry into certain sights facilitated, photo stops provided on route and good at keeping everyone together. Answered questions and was knowledgeable and approachable, giving advice on what cost of souvenirs should be. Columbus house was my favourite stop but all were worth it!

Santo Domingo is beautiful

saseatherton, Feb 2022
Once we arrived in Santo Domingo we met with our guide Danny that’s was a real nice guy full of information. He made the trip fun and had a good sense of humour. The coach trip wasn’t as pleasant thought we hand to change coach and it’s a long way there . It didn’t help that the guys who picked us up realised after having left and collected other guest from other hotel that more guest were ate our hotel so had to go back again then be met at some petrol station to jump on another coach… we wasted and hour from the trip and our guide said that due to our late arrival we had no time to visit the light house with oh was a shame. In all a good trip though….

Nice day trip

Rachel_A, Nov 2021
Santo Domingo was a nice city to see and experience. Worth the money spent. I wish there was an all English tour option rather than English and Spanish mix. It felt a lot of time could have been spent providing more history and info regarding the city rather than translating so much-little.

It was very informative. If you would like to learn the history of the island, this tour is must. The monuments are beautiful. Our tour guide Leo was very friendly and he seems passionate about this job. I had so much fun... I highly recommend this tour.

Latino flavor

Victor_P, Jul 2021
Small but full of colonial history, mixture of romantic hispanic streets with trafic chaos and favelas. Took around 8 hours with road transportation with half for effective tour. Excellent food typically dominican. Take care of streets pickpockets, don't show anything may temp them, especially jewelry.
