If you have the impression that you will be riding through a park and observing various forms of wildlife and foliage, this tour is not for you. This is supposed to be the largest national park in the Dominican Republic and apparently visitors are not allowed inside the interior of it. We did get a boat tour and saw some majestic rock formations, walls, foliage and birds. We got in and out of the boat multiple times to see various caves. We could have done with one cave. The toilet situation in the national park was deplorable.

Los Haitises National Park is a protected natural reserve, and access to the interior of the park is restricted by environmental regulations established by the Dominican authorities. For this reason, visits are done by boat and through designated areas only, which include the rock formations, mangroves, caves, and bird-watching zones that make this park unique and internationally recognized. We understand that the experience may feel different from what some visitors expect if they are imagining a walking safari-style tour. This excursion is designed as an ecological and cultural boat exploration, focused on geology, caves with Taíno history, and protected wildlife habitats. Regarding the restroom facilities, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. The park is a remote natural reserve, and unfortunately the infrastructure inside protected areas is very limited. Even so, we will share your comments with the local operators and park authorities, as we agree that improvements are always important for visitors’ comfort. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the rock formations, caves, and wildlife sightings, which are the highlights of this unique national park. It’s a long drive to and from … but I would still recommend it. The natural beauty is pretty amazing… it’s a full day trip so be prepared.

Great adventure to get out of the city and enjoy some nature

What a long day, but it was definitely worth the time spent in the bus. We got picked up at 6:25am and got back at 7:30pm. The ride was very comfortable in the nice bus they provided. The ride through the mangroves was very cool. And saw a lot of birds. We loved the caves and seeing the ancient drawings in the walls. The stop on the mountain top was such a fantastic view and my kids loved the swing the seems like u are going off the side of the mountain. I would definitely recommend if you wanna get a day out of the city and enjoy some nature. The lunch at the hotel was fantastic and being able to cool off in the pools was really nice.
