Extremely touristy/mass operation. It is pretty much the only way to see Uros and Taquile, so you have to suck it up. There is heavy sell during the trip to purchase their goods--which I did because they are very nice. I recommend this trip as it's the only way, but I don't think it's an authentic experience.
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Dear Emily,
We truly appreciate your perspective and understand your feelings regarding the scale and structure of the Speedboat Day Trip to Uros and Taquile. Due to the geography of Lake Titicaca and the distance involved, organized boat tours are indeed the most practical way to visit both islands in a single day, which can sometimes make the experience feel more structured and busy.
Regarding the sale of local handicrafts, this is an important source of income for the island communities, and participation is always optional. We’re glad to hear that you found the artisans and their products enjoyable, and we respect your reflections on authenticity. Your comments help us continue working on balancing visitor access with cultural respect and meaningful interactions.
Thank you for recommending the trip despite your reservations. We value feedback like yours as it allows us to improve and better set expectations for future travelers. We hope to have the opportunity to offer you another experience that aligns more closely with what you’re looking for.
Sincerely,
Experience Manager

The majority of this trip is a gigantic tourist show. Basically you go from 1 tourist show to another... it felt like a human zoo/safari.
1. Stop 1 Uros. Visiting a floating island, the family is already waving and fake smiling before the arrival in outfits put on for tourists. Then the guide does a show together with the head of the family explaining stuff. After the market with all made in china stuff opens. Finally there is a boat tour for which they charge 15 sol more.
2. Stop 2 Uros. The local boat brings you to an even bigger market. Nothing else there, only the usual tourist stuff.
3. Stop 3 Taquile. Immediately you go to a tourist restaurant. The trout was undercooked, the potatoes bad. After lunch the guide does another show with a local guy, explaining about hats.
4. Stop 4 Taquile. After the restaurant we went to another local market. Again they try to sell tourist stuff. Even shampoo. This is followed by a dance show of the locals after which you can take a picture with them. For a tip ofcourse.
5. Final part. Walk back to the boat. This was the only part worth it. No shows, just enjoying nature. Great views, amazing environment.
Overall I would not recommend nor support this kind of tourism. It seems that all authencity was sold out for a gigantic tourist show, which is being performed on a daily base.
Response from Host, Aug 2025
Dear Thomas,
Thank you very much for taking the time to share your opinion and experience on the Lake Titicaca tour. We sincerely regret that the visit did not meet your expectations. We value every comment because it helps us improve and also helps explain some important aspects of the culture and tourism in our region.
In the case of the Uros floating islands, the traditional boat ride is entirely optional, and payment is made directly to the local families, as a way of supporting their economy. Likewise, artisans offer products they make along with some generic items, but the purchase is not mandatory; as in most tourist destinations, where each visitor is free to choose.
Regarding Taquile, we understand that the cultural demonstrations may be perceived as "shows." However, this island is renowned for its traditional textiles, music, and dance, practices that have been declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. For many visitors, experiencing these living customs is an added value to their trip, as Taquile is not only about landscapes, but also about culture and traditions that still endure.
Regarding gastronomy, we take your comments about the food served seriously and will pass them on to the restaurant so they can strengthen their quality control in preparing the dishes.
We are aware that tourism in Puno and Lake Titicaca has much room for improvement, but it is also true that most visitors positively value the opportunity to connect with local communities and learn about their way of life. However, we deeply appreciate your constructive criticism, as it helps us continue working to provide more authentic, balanced, and satisfying experiences.
We send you our warmest regards and hope that, despite what you experienced, you will have fond memories of the natural beauty of the lake and its landscapes.
Sincerely,
Wilson Ticona

The driver was prompt in picking us up. The boat was fine and the guide was great. We truly enjoyed visiting Uros and Taquile Island. Lunch on Taquile was good, and service was fabulous everywhere we went. The views on the island were breathtaking. The entertainment that was provided was the icing on the cake.

Nice Titikaka lake tour, but too much commercialized (markets, same items all the way in Peru, Uros island not organic
shows...)

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.
We’re glad you enjoyed the Lake Titicaca tour overall and appreciate your honest observations regarding the commercial aspects of the experience. This is the ideal day trip if you want to know more about the culture surrounding the Titicaca lake. We visited the Uros floating Islands and Taquile islands and received a lot of information about the people here while enjoying great views. The pick up and droo off were a bit chaotic as there are a lot of groups leaving at the same time so do keep this in mind.
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Dear Eveliene,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful review!
We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed the cultural richness of the Uros and Taquile Islands, as well as the stunning views that make Lake Titicaca such a special place. It’s wonderful to know that the information provided helped you connect more deeply with the local communities.
We also appreciate your comment about the pick-up and drop-off logistics. You're right, mornings can be quite busy with many groups departing at once. We’re continually working on improving coordination to ensure smoother transitions.
Thank you for choosing Puno Tours. We hope to welcome you back soon for more memorable experiences!
Warm regards,

Peter_S, May 2024
Our guide provided lots of perspective on the area and the local culture.
Despite the group being mostly Spanish speaking, he was totally committed to providing
complete translations for the minority of English speakers. The tour was surprisingly
immersive: We started with a heart-warming visit to a small floating island with four
families and about twenty people; we learned about how the islands were created and
maintained, daily life in the village, and the local crafts. We then visited a larger
permanent island where we were treated to dancing and music, additional explanations
of local crafts, a walking tour of the island, and a good lunch with newfound friends. A
thoroughly delightful day!
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Dear Peter,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed review!
We’re truly glad you enjoyed this immersive journey across the Uros and Taquile Islands. It’s wonderful to hear that the guide provided meaningful insight and ensured everyone felt included — language should never be a barrier to discovery, and we’re proud of our team’s commitment.
Your description captures beautifully the spirit of the tour: authentic cultural exchange, connection with local communities, and unforgettable memories shared with fellow travelers.
We’d be honored to welcome you back anytime for more enriching experiences on Lake Titicaca!
Warm regards,

Vitalii_T, May 2024
Professional service. No insistence on buying souvenirs which I was afraid of before. Friendliness, punctuality. Comfortable boat with upper deck where you can observe the lake all the way. Good balance between touristic crap and real experience. I wish though there was more time on Taquile just to walk around the island. Would recommend to everyone.
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Dear Vitalii,
Thank you very much for your honest and insightful feedback!
We’re glad you appreciated the professionalism, friendly atmosphere, and comfort of the boat, especially the open deck views over Lake Titicaca. We're also happy to know the experience felt well-balanced and respectful, without pressure to buy.
Your suggestion about having more free time on Taquile is greatly appreciated and will be taken into account as we continue refining our itineraries.
It means a lot to us that you would recommend the tour, we hope to welcome you again soon!
Warm regards,
Wilson Ticona
Osvaldo_B, May 2024
Despite all the tourist artificiality of tours like this, the tour is very interesting and, I would say, unmissable, due to the cultural and even emotional aspect. However, failures in organization, as was the case, generate unnecessary delays and a lot of useless time under the scorching sun. It should improve a lot with this operator!
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Dear Osvaldo,
Thank you very much for your honest and thoughtful feedback.
We’re truly glad to hear that you found the cultural experience meaningful and unmissable, connecting with the heritage of Lake Titicaca is something we deeply value.
At the same time, we sincerely regret the organizational issues and delays you encountered. Your comments about the time spent under the sun are well noted, and we are already reviewing internal procedures to ensure better coordination, timing, and guest comfort throughout the tour.
Your experience helps us improve, and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again and offer you a smoother and more enjoyable visit.
Warm regards,
Wilson Ticona

It’s amazing how the people of the Uros Islands survive and thrive on these islands made of reeds. On Taquile, if you’re a male, your knitting better be up to snuff or you’ll never find a wife!
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Dear Leslie,
Thank you for your great review!
We’re so glad you enjoyed discovering the unique cultures of the Uros and Taquile islands. It truly is remarkable how the Uros have built their lives on floating reed islands, a testament to resilience and ingenuity.
And yes, on Taquile, the art of knitting is serious business, a true symbol of skill and tradition!
We hope to welcome you back for more unforgettable cultural encounters.
Warm regards,

Jorick_d, Dec 2022
The Uros Islands in itself were very pretty. However, the tour led us from one tourist trap into the other. The whole tour consisted of groups of locals putting up some sort of circus act, without any form of enthousiasm. Is didn't feel like they were happy about being there. And after every "act" we were supposed to either buy a souvenir or give a tip.
Response from Host, Jan 2024
Dear Traveler,
We appreciate your feedback about our speedboat tour to Uros and Taquile, and we are sorry that your experience did not fully meet your expectations.
We are sorry for any impression of "tourist trap" you may have experienced. Our goal is to provide authentic and enriching experiences, and we appreciate your feedback as an opportunity to improve.
We took into account their observations about interactions with locals and perceptions of feeling pressured to buy souvenirs or tip. We are reviewing our approach to ensure experiences are genuine and respectful for both visitors and local residents.
We appreciate your honesty and assure you that we will take steps to improve. We value the opportunity to learn and improve, and hope you will consider giving us another opportunity to offer you a more positive experience in the future.
If you have more details or specific suggestions, we would be grateful to receive them to continue improving our services.
Kind regards,

The tour was great and the tour guide was very knowledgeable, we really enjoyed ourselves. The only reason it is not a five star review is that we fell a bit lost after we were picked up at our hotel until we were seated on the boat.
Great on every other aspect. He had a wonderful time.
Response from Host, Jan 2024

We sincerely appreciate you sharing your experience with our speedboat tour to Uros and Taquile.
We are pleased to know that you found the tour excellent and enjoyed the company of our knowledgeable tour guide. We're sorry to hear about feeling a little lost from being picked up at your hotel to being on the boat, and we appreciate your feedback on that specific aspect.

Response from Host, Jun 2025
Beste Imre,
