Lake Titicaca lovely but tour was just okay

LAURA_M, Nov 2025
First, the tour operator was supposed to pick us up at our hotel. We received multiple messages about different meeting times ranging from 6:30 AM to 9 AM. We were ready at 6:30 AM. A Viator representative met us at our hotel and then we walked several blocks to a central square. Our driver from the airport was able to get directly to the airport yet Viator said they could not do that. The lake was beautiful and visiting the floating islands was nice. They promote the local handcraft markets which is fine. However, on the touristy boat, that is an option between two islands, children sing and then ask for money. That is just not right. Additionally, upon our return, the guide assured us that we would be dropped at our hotel. However, the driver said he couldn’t get to our hotel and we had to walk 5 blocks. fortunately, we could use the GPS on her phone to find our hotel. Keep in mind on this tour, there is a steep uphill walk to the restaurant and one of the islands for lunch and a steep downhill walk back to the boat. Lunch (beverage is not included) and the view from the restaurant where lovely. I’m glad we visited Lake Titicaca but the tour was not quite as promoted.

Titicaca - Touristy but culturally interesting

Fabian_B, Dec 2022
The trip was cool. The start was strange as we had to be there very early but then sat around for almost an hour doing nothing (which sucks at 6 am in the morning). The trip itself was nice - The culture is very interesting to see, but be aware that it is a very touristy place with many weird things to spend your money on. But worth for the cultural experience.

Culturally amazing and memorable!

Fousto was a fantastic tour guide! This was the best way to see a lot of the lake in one day - the more colorful boats would take way too long, so we definitely appreciated this tour with how huge this lake is! Definitely consider this as an epic option!

It felt like a scam

Daniel_B, Apr 2022
Lake Titicaca is not what it’s being advertised as, it felt like everything was set up to get more money from tourist. Many lies was told on the trip, the optional Reed boats was not optional you had to pay to continue the trip. We where also told by the “mayor” that they didn’t want to make children ask for money which is why they sold home make souvenirs, but as soon as we got on the boat a little girl not older then 7 years old started dancing and singing reluctantly to then ask for money. The Reed boats themselves were also fake, they use a speed boat to drag them but try to hide them so you don’t notice. On the island itself they sell souvenirs as mentioned but after a demonstration of how the islands flout we stepped into a house where they had a shop, the lady who owned the shop asked us to go into the house and we did but after everyone got in she sat in-front of the door blocking the exit, only when somebody decided to buy something she let everyone out. On the second island there is nothing to see or do, it’s a normal island with normal houses, you get your lunch in a normal restaurant and then go back to the boat where you have a 2 hour journey until you get back to Puno. Don’t wast your time going all the way to Puno for this trip, it will only disappoint you if you want an authentic experience and not just get some pictures for Instagram

Not great, but no regrets

The tour was very interesting. Boat was comfortable. And the tour of the islands was informative. Lunch with a local family/restaurant was very good - we even got a little bonus time to learn about their farming activities. Be aware - the walk around the island is steep - there were some older people in our group that were having a lot of trouble. Negatives: Bathroom situation was atrocious - no toilet paper or running water on the boat - and had to pay to use toilet on the islands. Pickup was scheduled at 6:40 - but they didn't come until 7:15, and then we sat on the boat for another 30 minutes before finally leaving.

Good value recommend

Lunch with family was enjoyable. The time on the reed islands where the people lived was educational. The boat was comfortable. The scenery was spectacular. Timing was great because the second biggest festival in South America is held at this time. Due to festival pick up was a little late, not operators fault.

We learned a lot about Titicaca and it's people

Taquille was great and we learned a lot about life of people living there and on Uros. I can only recommend.

The best lake trip ever

The people who look after us during Lake Titicaca Day Tour were absolutely fantastic, Especially our tour guide. The local people from the Islands were friendly and the presentations they have given was very interesting and entertaining. The restaurant and the food was fantastic, We are totally happy and we will recommend this tour to our friends. Thank You

Very disappointed with the tour...

Very disappointed with the tour arrangement. They told me the pick up time will be 7:40am, I even confirmed with them the day before my trip, and they insist 7:40am is the right time. But the real pick up time is 6:40am, so you can guess how rush the time is for us.

A well-planned and executed tour...

Jason R, Jul 2016
A well-planned and executed tour. The stops were interesting and memorable. The only negative: or tour group was a bit on the larger side, so the place was a bit slower and we didn't get as many questions in to the guide. Be prepared for cold, wet weather if you go in July.
