Super disappointed that the Viking museum is closed for YEARS, so this was the best we could do. It was interesting with a lot of AI and VR, if that’s your thing.

We were disappointed that the Viking Museum won’t reopen for another year yet, but decided to try the experience. It has some things on loan from the museum and the movies and history were interesting.

Very nice clean place. Very friendly staff and easy to navigate. 270° film was very cool, the VR was lacking a bit of an update but still was fun. Interactive screens were easy to use and very good clarity. Tons of info, and fun camera pics. Only thing lacking was just wanted a bit more… more clothing for the picture area, and maybe a cool background. All in all, good family fun, and educational stop worth the trip

I learned so much about Viking history and culture! In a fun, engaging and interactive way, the Vikings come to life through this fascinating and inspiring collection of exhibits. The VR experience was worth the price of admission. The staff are friendly, facilities are clean and hospitable; easily accessible and nearby numerous attractions including City Hall.

This was a pretty amazing display of digital technology. The interactive screens provided so much information and the VR experience of the Ambush was really cool. The touch screen tour of the Viking Ship Museum was great since it was temporarily closed at this time, but seeing it digitally was the next best thing. This was time well spent to learn about the Vikings.

Viking Planet is a fun visit. It’s not really a museum in the traditional sense. It’s all digital displays and films. However it is still very much worth going if only for the VR film! We had a really fun time and would recommend it.

We arrive as they were just opening. We were able to enjoy the experience without much interference. Took a few minutes to figure out the digital process, but once we understood how everything worked it was great. Really enjoyed the information and how it was delivered. So glad we didn’t do this with the ship’s excursion (too many people to use too few resources in the “museum”. Highly recommend it!

Living the Viking Life - Albeit in a Crowded Place

Interesting exhibits on Viking life, but the crowds were excessive & made it difficult to move around. Aisles were very narrow and kept people from moving on to the next exhibit.

Museum of missed opportunity- the holographs and VR are wonderful, but we where through all of the exhibits in under an hour…and left having learned very little about the era of the Vikings

Hi Emilie - I am sorry to hear that you learned very little . If you watched all three movies those take 45 minutes and the hologram theatre takes additional 25 minutes. In addition we have many interactive experiences so maybe you did not see all our attractions ? The knowledge our visitors have of the Viking area obviously various a lot but all our content has been curated by a Viking expert and author so most of our visitors do learn a lot from their visit.

Disappointing visit in 2026 when the actual museum opens

Red flag they opened with no refunds. If it had been part of a museum it would have been fine, however there is just not enough content to make up for the fact that THE ACTUAL MUSEUM IS CLOSED UNTIL 2026. Upon entering you are confronted with an entirely digital experience. If you are hoping to see any artifacts go somewhere else. The VR experience, which would be a fine add on to a traditional museum, is the highlight of the experience given that many of the displays offer no explanation of what you’re looking at. In addition to this cleanliness on the VR experience is questionable as one small wipe is used to sanitize 30+chairs and headsets. In short you are better off finding an alternative experience if you don’t like digital museums, VR makes you dizzy or you have a genuine desire to learn about Viking culture

Hi Victoria, We clearly state that we are a digital museum so we do not have any artefacts. Our App, which is free to download, has a lot of additional information about the exhibitions as do all the interactive screens in the museum. We are very conscious about the health of our guests and clear the VR equipment after each use. As you probably saw, we also have two different interactive experience based on content and artefacts from the Viking Ship Museum while they are closed.
