This was booked under the impression that it was a private tour (just for our group) but the ferry ride from Mumbai to Elefanta Caves was via a public (?) and very crowded ferry.
The first portion of the tour was dedicated to a few Mumbai sites. The guide was great but we were crammed into a 3-row SUV that was not really designed to fit three rows. Very uncomfortable to ride and to get in and out of at each stop.
Then we were taken to the ferry and sent on our own to meet another guide on Elefanta island. The guide was very knowledgeable and took great pictures for us. But the time was not well planned; we were rushed towards the end, which led to running down the long, steep stairways so not to miss the ferry back to Mumbai. At the bottom of the stairs we were taken to the guide’s cousin’s shop, after which we were sent on our way alone, to a fast walk alongside train tracks to catch the ferry.
The caves were fascinating and worth the trip though!

Our guide Nisar arrived at 0815 with a car and driver. We were at the Taj Land's End hotel so had a long drive to India Gate and were able to see more. Nisar was very enthusiastic about his city and showed us many sites that were not on the official itinerary. We saw the houses of the elite, slums, the Dhoby that, a magic well, the hanging gardens, the Ghandi house, the racecourse, cricket pitches, marine drive, the clock tower, the station and many old colonial buildings housing hospitals, universities and the law courts. We left the car at India Gate and boarded a tourist boat for the one hour trip to Elephanta island. Unfortunately the boat broke down and had to be towed some of the way. We caught the toy train along the long jetty to the path leading to the caves. As we were short of time because of the breakdown, my wife opted not to attempt the 120 steps to the caves so I went on a whistle stop tour with a guide Nitin , an islander who gave me an excellent tour and was very knowledgeable. Nitin is highly recommended. (Although the steps might be daunting for some, there is the option of a sedan chair for about £20). The 600 rupee entrance fee to the caves is not included.
We returned to India Gate where we visited the Taj hotel and the Leopold Cafe before returning to the hotel by 1730 after a full and enjoyable day. Nisar was very knowledgeable and informative and an excellent guide. He is highly recommended if visiting Mumbai.

Nisar was an amazing tour guide. He was very interested and informative and easy to connect with via viator and WhatsApp. I loved that he took the time to show us what he lived about his city and explained. He made sure we felt comfortable, safe and we're enjoying ourselves overall. He was on time and made contact before arriving to hotel, I appreciate that detail. I would highly recommend to anyone coming to Mumbai, this is your guy to make your time here in Mumbai amazing. Request this tour guide that treats you like family not a number.

We had three guides in total on this trip, one for each segment. It's a 1-hour each way ferry from The Gate of India at Mumbai and it was so much easier with the ferry guide buying our tickets and taking us across. There is also a walk from the ferry to the bottom of the hill and a 120-step climb up the hill, both of which can be hard work in the heat. But there is a little train for a nominal charge and you can also hire a sedan chair where locals will carry you up. I wish I had done both! The walk and steps are perfectly OK if you're fit and healthy but I was suffering from a chest infection. The caves are cut out from solid rock and amazing. The private Elephanta guide gave us an excellent tour around the caves and took great care of me as I wasn't feeling too well after the climb. Another hour back on the ferry and I still wasn't too good, but the ferry guide looked after me asking a local to swap seats with me so I could sit out of the sun. After that we had a tour of the main sites of Mumbai in an a/c car with the final guide. There isn't enough time to go into all the museums etc, and we knew that before we booked the tour, but we managed a few of the quicker stops and that was enough for us on this trip. Great trip and so much better than being on a big cruise excursion.

This tour was excellent and our guide Nisar did a very nice job. We did book this with the Elephanta Caves as a priority, but were not told that the Caves are closed to tours on Mondays until we were picked up by the van. The city tour was fantastic as we got to see so many wonderful places in Mumbai with Nisar filling in great details for the various locations. Would have been perfect if we received a partial refund since we did not get to see the Elephanta Caves, something we paid for and wanted very much to see. Otherwise, the city tour and our guide Nisar were outstanding!

If you have limited time in Mumbai, I would highly recommend this tour. I was able to see all of the best sites of Mumbai in a five hour tour. I highly recommend the tour guide and driver as well!

A wonderful experience, Mumbai is rich with history and culture. Nisar and Natin did an excellent job orchestrating the tour. They were very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. I learned much and had a great tour during a monsoon rainy day!

Our guide Nasir was good but the private car was sh&t and I realized that Bombay doesn’t have so many places to visit. I could have rented a taxi for 10% of the cost and seen everything. Re the car, after paying $250 for 2 people, they arranged for a beat up old car that didn’t even have vents in the back.
So while the driver and guide were good, it’s not worth $250. More like $50.

Use Viator all the time- but first time it was disappointing. Our tour started off with our guide about an hour late. He arrived rushing us in the car and barely spoke to us and then he began talking when we realised he was on the phone. He continuously was on the phone and would make a random comment now and then about something and we never were sure if he was talking to us or whoever was on the phone. He lacked personal attention and was basically just transportation. Then we were transitioned to ANOTHER tour guide for the ferry ride to Elephanta. HOWEVER, when we arrived at Elephanta Caves, the was yet ANOTHER Tour guide who was absolutely AMAZZING! He saved the day with his personal attention to detail, wealth of knowledge and helped us take some amazing photos. We joined our previous tour guide for the ferry who seemed nice enough but when we arrived back to be picked up by our original tour guide, he was no where to be found. Our 2nd guide was trying to cover for his tardiness but then ANOTHER guide came and started talking to us without introducing himself. We thought we were trying to be scammed by someone for another tour when we eventually realised he was from the same company trying to by time for our.original tour guide to arrive. That was nice of him but he should have clearly introduced himself and that should not have been necessary to begin with. FINALLY our original tour guide arrived and took us to a different Laundry site than was pictured on our booking and was very vague with an information that we asked about. While walking a young man seemed friendly and we asked him a question about the site and then our guide gave us a huge attitude saying how long he had been providing tours and that he knew the answers to all questions. Amongst ourselves we were complaining a bit in Spanish and it seemed he may have understood we were unhappy so he tried to appease us by making a quick stop at Victorian Station where one of group members wanted to stop for a photo.

We had a great experience on this day-long tour. We had a private car with AC and a very safe driver. We had a guide with us all the time, which is especially helpful to streamline the process of getting tickets and getting on the ferry, which is a bit hectic. You see a lot of Mumbai. We had 2-3 hours walking on the island with a great local guide who shared a lot of information. We never felt rushed. I highly recommend this tour when you are in Mumbai!

This should have been a fantastic trip, but the service was non existent. I booked a private tour with air conditioned vehicle. I was met with an old taxi with windows rolled down. The guide took me to the ferry dock and told me someone else would take me over to the island. That would have been ok, but…That person arrived with his group. What happened to private tour? When we got to the island, he handed me over to another guide who took me up the mountain and explained about the cave. That guide was really good BUT at the end of the cave visit, he handed me off to another guide who took me down the mountain. He left me there. I was stranded. I had no guide to take me on the boat. Everyone asked where my guide was. I had already had four at this point. Another guide finally reached my “guide” on the other side of the river. This fifth guide put me on the boat but did not stay with me. I am a very senior woman who needed some assistance climbing on and off the boat. Strange people assisted. My “guide” was on the land waiting with no car. We walked variously places until car arrived half hour later. Afternoon tour of the city was to take place. The entire time we were in the car, the guide was answering telephone calls. Even at the outdoor laundry he was talking.
I met another couple the next day who took the same tour and had a wonderful time with one guide.
This tour ruined my time in Mumbai.

The Elephanta caves were beautiful and worth it! My guide for the day was Nisar. We got to the caves via the boat and I was handed off to another Elephanta tour guide who explained the history of the location, and gave an explanation of the sculptures of Shiva. From there we did the outdoor laundry, Gandhi’s house, and the hanging gardens. Nisar is a local from Mumbai and gave some interesting insights into the ongoing politics and current happenings.

Our tour of the Elephanta Caves with Nitin was fantastic. He was really knowledgeable about the caves and their history, and he made sure to explain everything in a way that was easy to understand. Nitin took the time to take great photos for us even if we didn’t ask him to. He also gave us plenty of time to ask questions and explore on our own. The whole tour was really well-paced, and we never felt rushed. Overall, we had a great time at the Elephanta Caves, and we would definitely recommend Nitin as a tour guide.

Great tour which hits the highlights of what see in Mumbai with a good mixture of the Elephanta caves and the city sites. My sister and I had a wonderful time exploring Mumbai and learning about the history. And the Elephanta caves are amazing to see in person! The driver (Shambhu Singh) was very punctual and arrived early to pick us up from the hotel. There was an incredible amount of traffic and he did an amazing job navigating through everything. The only down side is that the amount of traffic makes it a very long day which was a lot more than the 8 - 9 hours mentioned in the tour description. But it was very nice that they didn’t cut anything out due to the traffic delays so we still got to see everything.
Sahil was an excellent guide and took the time to describe each of the locations we visited in the city as well as some of the things we saw while driving by in the car. He took the time needed at each of the sites for us to walk around, ask questions, and take pictures. He also recommended places which were good to take photos of the sites as well as taking several pictures of us with our camera. We would definitely recommend him and this tour… and want to come back and visit India again!

The guides were very good and very experienced. The driver was excellent, very knowledgeable about the city, history, and people and he speaks good English. If it wasn't the heat, the dirty air , the terrible traffic and complicated concerns of the traveling routes, I would surely enjoy this tour more. My tour was on a Saturday, supposedly to be picked up at my airport hotel by 8:30am. There was a short delay because of the security requirements. I was still hoping to visit Elephanta before the crowd and the rise of temperature, but we made a few city stops first, I arrived there during the busiest and hottest hours. For some reasons, the elephanta guide the company booked for me was almost 30 minutes late, although the tour went well after. Both guides gave good explanations of the visited sites and took good photos.

Une excursion sans intérêt pour le prix très cher visite des marchés fermés et aucun bâtiments visités sauf la maison de Gandhi balade fatigante et nulle île elephanta faite en fin de journée au pas de course transfert en bateau à 280 roupie plus billet entrée en plus nous avons payé 28000 roupies pour pas grand chose même pas une pause déjeuner organisation nulle c'est sûrement la dernière fois qu'on se servent de vous pour nos voyages
