Itinerary

After pickup at a central Lucerne location, sink back into your seat on a luxury coach and enjoy the gorgeous scenery as you travel towards Interlaken, a charming village cradled by the Bernese Oberland Alps. Spend some leisurely free time visiting impressive sights like Jungfrau Park and Lake Thun, perhaps revitalizing with a steaming beverage in a quaint café if you wish (own expense).

Return to your vehicle at a pre-arranged time and relax during the journey to Grindelwald, nicknamed ‘Glacier Village’, and spend some more leisurely free time discovering the natural splendor of the enclave. Opt to take a cable car ride up to the sun-drenched terrace at the summit of Mt First and see sweeping panoramas of the scenery from a height of 7,113 feet (2,168 meters).

Reconvene with your guide in the afternoon and make the return journey to Lucerne, where the tour concludes.

The trip itself is absolutely beautiful - I highly recommend it. Interlaken and Grindelwald are well worth a day to explore, in fact, if in the area - a must! However the reason for only 3 stars was the guide, Kid was his name, was quite rude and unprofessional from the time we stepped on the bus to when we returned. He barked at us (rather than welcome us onboard-poor representation for Viator) and continually threatened to leave us if we were not back on time. There was no narration of the beautiful area we were in on the way up the mountain and back which was expected on a tour. Basically we paid for a bus ride and a rude guide. Had I known we would have booked something other than Viator trip. Interestingly he said he had been doing this for over 15 years!?....but do go see this area - it is spectacular! I would recommend the trip but not with this guide.

Was very disappointed, we were on a coach with people going to Jungfraujoch, the guide travelled with them all the way, we were dropped off at Grindelwald, at the bus station, with no guide, & no one to tell us where to go, I had to ask someone on the street, as how to get into the town, he told us to catch a bus, & we could of walked there, would have been nice for the guide to tell us these things

What to expect and accessibility

Viator review This was a great trip but you need to understand what it is and what it is not. It is essentially a very nice bus to get you to other parts of Switzerland that you can’t get to easily with public transportation. Potentially you could take the train, (which would probably be hard to do both places in one day or make for an incredibly long day) but this bus tour is at a convenient time and you see the beautiful Swiss countryside and mountains. The bus came from Zurich already loaded with people and picked us and a few other people up in Luzern. It was a little less than an hour to Interlaken. That is where we got off but the bus took other people somewhere else. This trip to a not a guided tour. Kid, the tour guide, was friendly enough. But he only spoke for a few minutes at the beginning about some general facts about Switzerland, let you know what time to meet back at the bus, and let you know the good photo ops on the drive. He gave us his contact on WhatsApp in case we had an issue during the stops. He was asleep the whole way back. We had just under two hours in Interlaken. That was enough time to go down the street, take photos and admire the view of the gorgeous, snowy mountains, and get some coffee. When we got back to the bus, it wasn’t there which surprised and worried us. But sure enough it showed up, we boarded and it left two minutes early. So make sure you’re not waiting until the last minute. From there, it was over 30 minutes to Grindelwald where we had just over three hours on our own. We booked it over to the gondola and paid (separate from the “tour”) CHF 144 for two tickets up Mt. First (pronounced Fearst). The gondola ride takes 25 minutes and is gorgeous. The views of the alps at the Top of Europe were definitely the highlight of the day, and probably of our whole trip to Europe. We had just enough time at the top to do the cliff walk (awesome) where you’re on a metal grate platform getting even better views. One spot of the cliff walk has an elevated point where we stood in a long line waiting to get our photos with amazing views. If you didn’t do the gondola you would still have pretty mountain views but looking at tourist shops would get boring since you have 3+ hours on your own to fill your own time. Our trip started at 8:30 am and got us back to Luzern at about 6:30 pm. For basically a bus to get us to Interlaken and Grindelwald, we think is think the price was fair. It was a good day trip. ACCESSIBILITY: My wife has bad knees so we brought a walker, which we were able to store under the bus. If you brought a child you could store a stroller down there too (it’s similar to a tour bus in the US). The bus has a handful of steps to get up. Interlaken was flat and easy for her to get around. Grindelwald was steep, which was more of a challenge for her. But she was able to get in and out of the gondolas ok as they are low to the ground at the platform and move slowly. If you want a true guided tour then this is not for you. But if you’re ok with doing your own thing and meeting back at the bus then it is great.

Very Poor Experience

Our guide, Kid, was very extremely aggressive, and made our group very uncomfortable. We were left off in Interlaken, without and maps or any direction. Unless you want to buy expensive watches, the town was disappointing. The town of Grindelwald was nice, and we could shop and get a good lunch. I have never written a poor review, of the very many experiences I have had with Viator, but this was the first and hopefully only bad review I will ever write so that I can warn other travelers.

Not Worth the Money

Our tour guide Kid was annoying. At first he was funny and entertaining, but by the end of the tour he was rude, bossy and otherwise obnoxious. We sat in the front seat of the bus on the trip back to Lucerne and there was a tire pressure warning on the truck console. The driver came close several times to hitting another car, and at one point the whole console lit up in orange when he stopped suddenly. We enjoyed going to Harder Kulm on our own and seeing Interlaken from above. We probably could have seen Interlaken and Grindelwald on our own without booking the tour.

What a waste of money! Except for the wonderful guide, Kid, the rest is nonsense and a waste of time. This tour is practically the same as the Jungfraujoch Top of Europe Day Trip, except that instead of paying to go to the top you pay to stay down at Grindelwald for 3 hours waiting for the rest of the tour whom the guide took to Jungfraujoch!!!!! A real big scam!!!!

Travelling right into the Alps was breathtaking for us. We loved the scenery and were privileged to see festooned cows running through the streets on their return from their high pastures. The towns seemed full of happy relaxed people -- both locals and visitors enjoying late Fall sunshine and exquisite views up into the precipitous mountains. We were absolutely spell bound by the beauty of the houses and the countryside.

Scenery was amazing..but the tour was just for transport really. The guide wasn't really helpful at all. He confused people on timings and meeting points and didnt clearly explain what happens on the trip. We were unaware that you can go on the cable cart during the trip but for a heavy price. We felt us and a few others that didnt want to pay that price of around 300 franks were forgotton about. The bus driver was awesome and tried his best to show us some spots whilst the others went up the hill otherwise we would have of stayed in the bus for 1.5hr whilst the others went up the hill. Guide didnt seem to do his job really, just seemed focused on the cable cart and taking the money than anything else. We also felt he was not really approachable. He was more interested showing his instergram page to everyone, which we didn't really care about. We felt the bus driver knew a lot more and was way more approachable and nice. I wouldn't recommend this trip as its not worth the money for the guide you get. I would recommend getting a car and going over that way. The scenery was awesome though and we enjoyed seeing the views.

Rent a car and go by yourself! You can drive a lot better then the aggressive driver we had… my daughter was sick from swaying back and forth so much and i couldn’t even take pictures of the scenery because I was too busy praying for our safety. (Literally) Coming back we almost side swiped a vehicle on the highway…. Just take yourself… you’ll be safer!

Ok, so we had a great time. Viator did a great job and once again lived up to their word. However, honestly the only reason I gave 3 stars is because… for the most part, they simply gave us a ride to Interlaken and Grindelwald— No tour or anything, which was fine, because you don’t need a “tour”. If there was any way you could get an Uber or rent a car, that is the way to go. The trip to the destinations were gorgeous and I would have loved to stop to take pictures.

I would’ve given it 5 stars if not for the 1-hour delay (due to a pick-up time misunderstanding betwen the bus driver & the tour guide). We basically lost an hour’s chance to enjoy Interlaken more. Anyway, i would still highly recommend this tour especially Grindelwald which is so picturesque.

We were surprised that our tour visit placed was changed to accommodate others tour places. So interlaken only 30 minutes and add one other city and we need to wait 40 minutes for other tour people coming back so we didn’t get back to Luzern until 7:00 pm 😞

Sunday scam

We booked this tour on a Sunday. After we were picked up and boarded the bus we were informed that shops, restaurants, attractions etc (everything mentioned in the description of the tour) were closed on Sunday's and we would have nothing to do. We were advised that we would be dropped off while the rest of the bus went on the top of Europe tour and the bus driver would come back for us. We were told the bus driver did not speak English. Without any other options we felt we were forced to pay extra to go on the top of the Europe tour. This tour should not be allowed to be booked on Sunday when it’s known nothing is open. As the guide goes with the top of Europe tour this is just a bus ride and not a tour as advertised.

Beautiful Scenes but too much time

Mountains were beautiful to see. What we did not realize when we booked this was that we were on a bus with people who were going up the mountain. The guide man tried to upsell me and my friend to purchase the "better" excursion on the bus. We also did this on a Sunday and most shops were closed. Nowhere on the site did it warn that this was the case. We had to wander around the town for a while before the bus came to pick us back up because the other group's excursion up the mountain took a while. The scenes are beautiful and the towns were as well but the free-time given was way too long.

One of the other reviews mentioned that the tour guide was more interested in the larger group and they are correct. there was only 10 of us on the interlaken grindlewald tour and the rest of the bus was going to jungfrau. with that said this is more of a drop off tour then anything else. while both places are pretty there isn't hours worth of things to do in either place so be prepared to ,at some point, to sit and wait for the bus to come back and pick you up.
