Maja's tour is great because she's been a local for a long time, and also has an outsider's perspective as someone who moved here from another country. Super helpful if you aren't fluent in Spanish and are looking to get acquainted with the area during the first part of your trip. I'm so glad we did this tour on our second day in town!

Maya's tour of Puerto Viejo is great - especially on your first day in town. She provides a through overview of different places in town and helpful tips on maximizing your experience. We started out driving around town and learning about both the history of the area as well as current day tips like which restaurants and grocery stores she recommends and why. The walk to The Cliff is over easy terrain and Maya provides interesting information about the local flora and fauna. Although it was raining the day of our tour, the view from The Cliff was still pretty. Maya even worked with us to reschedule part of the tour due to poor weather. The Kekoldi BriBri Iguana Project is very interesting. The BriBri woman who lives on and runs the property has many interesting stories about their culture and how they interact with the plants and animals around them. We made a quick stop at the grocery store and Maya got us drinks of our choice before heading to the waterfall. There is an area to change into a bathing suit when you arrive. The hike to the waterfall was well maintained and had steps along the path. It was steep but not too strenuous. Swimming in the pool at the base of the waterfall was chilly but refreshing! The man running the entrance was a character who sang, played the piano, and offered us "Coco Loco" (a tasty coconut drink with rum) or "Coco Boring" (without rum). Maya brough us back to the meeting spot around 2:30 in the afternoon. It was a really fun day!

Maya was a great host and tour guide! She was very knowledgeable about Puerto Viejo and I learned a lot of new things. Expect a lot of hiking, nature seeking, and chill vibes. Nothing extravagant! The Bri Bri Waterfall was soothing.

Maya is a great tour guide! She was prompt in her pick up times and keeping us on schedule without rushing. We learned so much about the history of Costa Rica and Puerto Viejo. It was a great experience to see PV in the eyes of someone who lives here- so many animals and cool facts to learn. Highly recommend to take this tour right when you arrive! Irena was a wonderful guide. She pointed out so many animals along the way and explained which plants can be used for medicinal purposes. She also took us to some breathtakingly beautiful spots for picture taking. A lovely person with a wealth of knowledge on CR.

This was the best tour we had during our 8 days in coat rica. Right away once it was booked someone reached out and was very communicative. They were extremely accommodating and kind, they picked us up at our hostel the morning of the tour. Irena was like a ray of sunshine! Right away we felt welcomed and comfortable. Throughout the tour she took us around Puerto Veijo and shared about the history, the nature and medicinal benefits. We got to try fresh herbs and fruit on our walk and although rainy, even got to see a sleeping sloth. Irena was so phenomenal and well versed in the nature here, she was incredibly enthusiastic funny and answered all of our crazy questions! Next we were driven around Puerto Veijo and she told us all of the best shops and places to eat, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DOING THIS EARLY IN YOUR TRIP!! We did it day 2 and had a whole list of places to hit during the rest of our trip. As two girls traveling alone she gave us all the tips on safe areas and do/donts while visiting. She recommended some great affordable food spots and some local homemade clothing stores. Next she brought us to the Bri Bri farm, this was by far my favorite part of this tour. She was so respectful and knowledgeable of the Bri Bri culture and let us have an inside look on the beauty of their lives here. We tried the best fresh fruit and greens I have ever had in my life on that farm. The sour sap was my favorite!! We got to see chickens, dogs, toucans, iguanas and butterflies too. Finally we ended at the waterfall, on the way she got us fresh drinks and the people there were kind and offered us fresh fruit. The water fall was a bit chilly because it had rained all morning so we dipped our legs in but it was still beautiful. I couldn’t recommend this tour enough, my sister and I are blessed to have Irenas guidance early during our trip and lucky to have met her!

Irena was such a great and informative guide! She gave such great information about Puerto Viejo, restaurants/sodas, where to go and where to visit. We enjoyed the nature walk and mirador! It was amazing to learn about the Bri Bri people and visit the Bri Bri waterfall. Would definitely recommend doing this tour, especially on your first days!

Excellent and an informative tour. Irena was absolutely adorable and extremely knowledgeable about the area. The tour helped us to respect to the Costa Rican way of life. We enbrached the excursion to Kekoldi community. Waterfalls was a perfect end to the tour. Highly recommend to everyone.

Awesome day. We did so much and felt very safe. Irena was very knowledgeable about the plants , animals , local area and made sure we found a sloth also . She was very friendly and kept to a schedule that worked for us. We visited a bri bri farm that preserves iguanas , waterfalls, a overlook point , she pointed out points of interest . She speaks very excellent English and Spanish. Everyone we encountered seemed to know her and really enjoy her as they were happy to see her. We had fresh pinnapple, coconut, and she got us a drink.

We had a great time as a family! We saw three sloths, learned how to survive off the land, and enjoyed the small hike to the waterfall. Afterwards we enjoyed fresh coconut water from a coconut and ended the excursion with a song and dancing. Highly recommend!!

This was such a great tour! Maya was so informative and obviously is experienced with native plants, areas and cultures. The first day started pouring rain really bad so she offered for us to continue a couple days later when it was expected to be sunny which it was. Her partner Irena finished up the tour for us. She was well was very educated on everything local. The entire tour felt very personalized. We definitely recommend this tour!

Learned a lot about the history of puerto viejo and places to go for breakfast lunch and dinner , loved the waterfall only I wasn’t careful and put my hand right onto a wasp climbing back up . Got some great pics though . Maya was so concerned for my well being she stopped at 3 different pharmacies to make sure a doctor looked at it . She was very knowledgeable and so very kind . She even called the next morning to check on me.

Absolutely loved this tour & Maja! She was great to talk to and had a bunch of stories and information about the Puerto Viejo area, as well as good recommendations such as the art cafe we visited right after! Going to the cliff at Playa Cocles was gorgeous and we saw lots of wildlife (sloths, spiders, birds), and the KéKöldi Iguana Reserve was interesting and fun as well; trying different fruits and getting to feed the iguanas. At Bri Bri Waterfalls it was gorgeous & despite a storm rolling in Maja stayed calm and got us back safely :) It felt as if we did days worth of activities in just one afternoon, and now we know what to do on our next trip here as well!

We (myself, my husband and our 18 year old daughter) absolutely loved this tour. Irena was the perfect guide and it felt as though we were being shown around the area by a knowledgeable friend. We enjoyed all our stops, but the highlight was the opportunity to swim at the waterfall.

Irena was so nice. This was a great tour since it was a small group (only 4 of us + tour guide Irena). She showed us playa cocles plus the surrounding nature. We saw several sloths, and one was very low to the ground so we got an even better look. Seeing the iguana reserve was also nice. The waterfalls were amazing. The coco loco that you could buy at the entrance to bri bri waterfalls was amazing and very cheap! It was a great experience.
