Marcos our guide was very knowledgeable and informative. He took us to local places that if I were to do it myself, I wouldn't even know where to go. The food we sampled was not the usual food you would find in touristy areas, so we're definitely immerse in the culture. This tour is highly recommended.

We were running late due to public transit issues and it was super easy to contact viator and be able to meet them at the second spot. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and explained the connection of colonial history with the food. Our kids had a good time also, especially enjoyed the churros and ceviche.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Thank you so much for your kind review!
We’re really glad everything worked out smoothly despite the transit delays — we always do our best to stay flexible so our guests can fully enjoy the experience. It’s great to hear that you found the tour both informative and engaging, especially the connection between colonial history and Peruvian cuisine.
We’re especially happy your kids had a great time too — churros and ceviche are always a hit! 😊
We hope to welcome you again on another adventure soon!

This tour covers 8 places/foods. Only 4 of these offered seating, while the rest involved standing around the market or food carts.
It was very hot during the tour, and only 2 places offered a small drink. Our group kept asking for water, and although our guide picked up a drink at one of the places we stopped, nothing was offered to the rest of us.
After 2 hours of walking around in the heat, everyone was getting pretty irritated. Finally a room temp water was provided.
The tour is too long for what is actually covered. We basically ate a small sample and then just stood around for 20 minutes or more at each stop.
This tour is not planned out well and felt like a complete waste of time and I would not recommend.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Thank you for the detailed feedback, Matt. We're sorry the warmth, humidity, and standing time made the experience uncomfortable for your group. It's summer in Lima, and the Historic Center doesn't have many trees, sadly!
To set clear expectations for future guests:
• This is an outdoor walking street-food tour through authentic streets and market in Lima (explicitly described in the listing as such). However, as you pointed, there are several indoor locations (old eateries), where we stop and sit for a good 20-25 mins.
• March in Lima typically brings average highs of 26–27°C (79–81°F) with high humidity around 80–83%, which can feel muggy and draining during slow-paced walking in the sun, especially without constant shade or AC – that's the coastal reality here.
• Genuine street-food stalls and carts (like those for anticuchos, or picarones) rarely offer much seating; that's how traditional Lima street food operates -most are standing counters or quick stops.
• Drinks are provided at several stops, including a bottle water mid-tour, but we always recommend guests bring a personal reusable water bottle (a standard tip for warm-weather tours anywhere), as many do to stay ahead of thirst during the activity.
• We recommend people to wear comfortable shoes, and avoid booking if they have a sedentary lifestyle as there's a fair amount of walking (it's a walking tour, and we cover the whole Historic Center area!)
Your comments about the perceived length of stops (for tastings, explanations of ingredients/history, and fresh prep) and drink availability are noted.
That being said, based on our own expertise and the opinion of the majority of clients who take this tour, we believe it has the right duration to taste over 13 flavors while discovering all the Historic Center has to offer in terms of culture and history.
Finally, "everyone was getting pretty irritated" -> that would be only for your party of 6. Other guests left great reviews.
We appreciate you taking the time to share this, as it helps us improve. Wishing you more enjoyable, cooler, and comfortable experiences on future trips!

Don’t overthink this one, reserve a spot and you won’t regret it. We went to a number of spots and experienced authentic Peruvian foods. The walks in between restaurants was sufficient and not overwhelming but be sure to wear sneakers or other comfortable shoes, no heels. Valeria was our guide and was outstanding in her selection of places that we visited and in her knowledge of the foods and Peruvian culinary history. Highly recommend this tour!
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the experience and had the chance to discover authentic Peruvian flavors along the way. Valeria will be very happy to know that her passion, knowledge, and choice of stops made the tour memorable for you. We also appreciate the helpful tip about comfortable shoes!
Thank you for recommending the tour, and we hope to welcome you again for another culinary adventure soon.

This was GREAT!!! Marcos was an amazing tour guide and spoke English well (although I also speak Spanish, but prefer English). He was educated on the history of Peru as well as all of the food we tried. There was A LOT of food, so be prepared! Decent amount of walking, which is great to burn off those calories. I highly recommend this tour, and highly recommend Marcos who I connected with pretty well.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re thrilled to hear you had a great experience on our tour and that Marcos made it even more enjoyable. It’s wonderful that you appreciated both the food and the history of Peru. We’ll be sure to share your compliments with him—he’ll be very happy to hear this! We hope to see you again on another tour soon.

Response from Host, Jan 2026

Michael_W, Jan 2026
The food tour was good. We were disappointed to see there was 12 people when the description listed a maximum of 10. Our guide was soft spoken which is not her fault so with the group that size we missed some of the conversation and then she had to repeat it. The highlight was the caramel filled churro. It was awesome. Do come hungry on this tour as there is lots of food. It was great to walk around the historic part of Lima
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the food and especially the caramel-filled churro—it’s definitely a favorite highlight for many of our guests.
We also appreciate your feedback regarding the group size and the guide’s pace. Nevertheless, we believe there might be a mistake from the third-party website where you bought the tour, since we always accept group up to 12 people. We’ll take this into account to ensure everyone can fully enjoy the conversation and experience during the tour.
It’s wonderful to know you enjoyed walking through the historic part of Lima and all the flavors along the way. We hope to welcome you back soon for another delicious adventure!
Warm regards,

This was a great experience, and the perfect way to begin our trip to Peru. First of all, my wife and I arrived in Peru late the night before the tour, so we were running late for the beginning of it. The tour company was so wonderful and accommodating in how they worked with us to make sure we didn't miss out on any part of the tour. Our guide was Marcos, and he was so friendly and knowledgeable that it felt as if we were being shown around the city by a friend as opposed to just some tour guide. If you're going to do this tour, come hungry! We got to try 5 or 6 different dishes during the tour and were totally stuffed by the end. Aside from all the amazing food we got to try along the way, Marcos conveyed his extensive knowledge of the city and country as we walked around in a way that made it so pleasant and interesting. My wife and I always like to start off trips to foreign countries with food tours like this because it is a great way to jump right into the local culture, and it's great to have someone to ask for suggestions about places to visit and places to eat. I would highly suggest doing the same, and would highly recommend this tour when visiting the amazing city of Lima!
Response from Host, Dec 2025
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re thrilled to hear that you and your wife had such a great start to your trip in Peru. Marcos will be delighted to know that his knowledge, friendliness, and guidance made your experience feel personal and enjoyable. 😊
It’s also fantastic to hear that you enjoyed the variety of dishes along the tour — we completely agree, it’s best to come hungry! We’re glad we could accommodate your schedule and ensure you didn’t miss any part of the experience.
Your recommendation means a lot to us, and we hope your time in Lima continued to be just as amazing. We would love to welcome you again on another tour whenever you return to Peru!

Fantastic tour with Marcos — we tried 8 Peruvian dishes and 2 drinks, all delicious! My favourites were the BBQ beef heart and tripe.
Marcos shared fascinating insights into Peru’s history including influence from Chinese immigrants on Peru’s demography, culture, and cuisines (“Chifa”), which was especially interesting for me coming from Hong Kong.
The walk was well paced, food portions perfect, and Marcos was attentive to our allergies. Highly recommend!

Marcus was such an excellent guide. I am gluten intolerant and he took the time to find alternatives for me. He also took time at the end of the tour to help us find a taxi back to our hotel. The tour itself was really interesting with lots of different foods to try

Our guide, Marcos was wonderful. Attentive, knowledgeable and big fun! I love the architecture in that part of town and the food just kept on coming! The group was small enough (10 people) that getting around wasn't awkward. I'm 73 and it wad too much walking for me and I never felt rushed.

I joined this tour with Exquisito Perú and it was a wonderful way to see the city through its food. Our guide Marcos led us through the historic center, markets, and Chinatown, sharing stories about each dish and its background.
We tasted papa a la huancaína, tamales, fresh fruits, anticucho, pan con chicharrón, churros, and picarones, along with a few pisco drinks. The mix of flavors and history made the four hours pass quickly and gave me a memorable introduction to Lima’s food culture.

Did a lot of walking and not a lot of tasting, were told to say in place while the host when can got food for us, twice this happened when offered dessert. We did not see where the dessert came from, very disappointing. Althought the host was very nice, she was in a rush and didn't check to see if everyone was with her.
Response from Host, Aug 2025
Hello Joe,
We are sorry you didn't like exploring all the highlights of Lima's Historic Center during this WALKING food tour – we are proud to offer the most complete route, which includes a visit to Lima's largest market and a peak at Chinatown, away from the tourist crowds. This won't change (the majority likes it!), so please anyone reading this: don't book if you don't like to walk :)
We are also sorry that 13 flavors weren't enough. If you check other reviews, most people seem to feel full at the end, so that is a bit surprising to us.
Regarding the two desserts spots, as you probably saw, there are huuuuge lines, and the guide has to jump the line and get inside alone (to not annoy regular customers too much) to get the food items for the group. Nobody was lost in the process, and we will make sure this is better communicated to future groups.
The tour finished at 20:35 (even 5 mins later – Friday evenings are busy!) so while the tour may have felt hectic due to large crowds, nothing was "rushed" per se and you received the contracted duration.
Lance_H, Aug 2025
On Sunday morning we took the Lima city, market, and Catacombs tour, and Tuesday evening we took this street food tour. Both tours go through mostly the same street area of Lima. On Sunday morning the market area was packed with fresh fish, colorful fruits and vegetables ready for sale, while many of the street-facing shops were closed until mid-day. On Tuesday evening for this street food tour, between 4:30 and 7:00 pm the market was closing down from a long day, but all the storefronts were open and the neighborhoods were alive with shoppers and food carts. Deserted streets with steel roller doors tightly locked on Sunday morning were now open exposing wide storefronts and deeeep rows of clothing, and families shopping and eating together everywhere! Our tour guide Valerie was really knowledgeable about the area and ensured all of our tour participants had as much food and refreshment as we could handle, and there was PLENTY to experience on the tour. It was really interesting to see Lima city by early morning Sunday and the Tuesday evening rush. I will recommend Valerie and this street foods tour to anyone traveling to Lima who has an available evening to sample the delicious street foods Lima has to offer!
Response from Host, Aug 2025
Thank you so much for sharing such a detailed and thoughtful review! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed both the Lima city, market, and Catacombs tour as well as the street food tour. It’s wonderful that Valerie could provide you with rich insights and make sure you experienced plenty of delicious food and local life during your visits. Lima truly comes alive in different ways at different times of the day, and we’re glad you got to see both the bustling market mornings and vibrant evening streets. We appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you or your friends again soon for more unforgettable experiences!

Sheyla was AMAZING! This was a wonderful tour! We tasted so many different things and she took us to some very NOT TOURISTY places. I loved walking and seeing the city while tasting new and delicious foods. This was my kids (15 & 12) favorite activity of the whole trip to Peru.

I took a street food tour and it was one of the highlights of my trip. The guide was an amazing. She's knowledgeable, passionate, and engaging. She didn’t just point out the food, she explained the history behind each dish, the ingredients used, and how they connect to Peruvian culture. You could tell she genuinely loves what she does and takes pride in sharing her country with others.
The food along the way was incredible—fresh, flavorful, and full of variety. From savory snacks to sweet treats, everything we tried was delicious. I left full, happy, and with a deeper appreciation for Peru’s culinary roots. Highly recommend this tour.
