What a great start to our visit in Kyoto

    Peter_P, Oct 2025
Fantastic introduction to Kyoto. We booked this tour on our first day in Kyoto and were delighted to get such a comprehensive tour of the city's highlights. Travel by bike was a superb choice as you were able to go from one highlight to the next quickly and also get an impression of the neighborhoods along the way. Our guide Jay, was an absolute pleasure to be with -spending almost 8 hours with him in "his" home town of Kyoto. Jay's outgoing personality, his passion for Kyoto and the Japanese way of life made the tour a true cultural experience. Jay is a native of NYC who has lived in Japan for over 15 years - his English makes the tour all the more easier for foreign tourists. If your looking for a laid back tour of Kyoto full of highlights and surprises - then book this tour and request Jay as your guide.

My husband and I had the pleasure of cycling around the Eastern side of Kyoto with Indra today. We have been on other tours, but Cycle Kyoto ranks at the top! Indra was an awesome guide, providing plenty of history mixed with humor. He was both engaging and attentive to everyone’s needs. It was truly unforgettable. We are now considering booking another tour while we are still in Kyoto!

Super fun way to see Kyoto!

Paul was a fantastic E-bike tour guide! It was such a plus that he spoke English, which made communication a breeze. He had a thoughtful, well-planned itinerary that perfectly catered to the sites most important to us. Highly recommend him if you’re looking for a fun, smooth, and memorable tour!

Historic and beautiful day in Kyoto

We had a fantastic time touring Kyoto with Jay. He kept a great pace and was very accommodating to our specific needs as well as the sites we were interested in. This tour checked all of the boxes. Thank you, Jay!!

We had an amazing detailed tour of Kyoto on e-bikes. Our tour guide was fantastic and kept the group going and stopped at a local place for lunch. This is perfect to see the back roads, bike along canals and see the rich history of Kyoto. You won’t be sorry you did this tour!

We have spent a wonderful day touring Kyoto with Julian. He safely shared this beautiful city in a very informative, personable way. He answered questions about a variety of topics and gave us great insight into the culture as well and the many photo shot moments of cherry Blossoms, shrines, temples. All covered on e bikes. So great. Thank you Julian from the Aussies and Canadians

    A must do

Our guide was pretty good, the tour covered very nice spots and we ride through paths that normally we wouldn’t. Amazing at all

    Memorable experience

Sean was an amazing guide. Thoughtful, knowledgeable, and eager to share his enthusiasm for Kyoto. This ride is a must for anyone visiting this historically rich city for the first time.

    Best day in Japan

    Patrick_C, Jul 2024
With Indra as our guide, we not only saw great temples, philosopher's path, back streets of Gion but we saw a whole lot of this great city that we would have otherwise missed. Indra was full of insider tips and loads of history. If you want to understand what you are actually looking at and where to have the best Udon, sign up for this tour. It is a full day but the ebikes make it easy. Truly unforgettable and the best way to see the great city of Koyoto.

Exploring Kyoto is Best by Bike!

    Laura_C, Jun 2024
We had an exceptional experience exploring Kyoto by bike! It was informative, interesting and entertaining and we saw far more than we would if by car or walking. Juan was charming and clearly has a deep love and respect for Japan, he provided great insight snd we enjoyed stopping for coffee and lunch during the tour. We felt well taken care of and will recommend this tour to friends and family as they travel to Kyoto.

    Great way to see Kyoto

    Arah_L, May 2024
This was so much fun. The place was a little tricky to find, but that’s more user error than anything else. Our tour guide Carl was funny but also gave us a lot of information. You use e-bikes, but make sure you can do this activity physically. There were a few uphills so that was a little challenging. You cover a lot of ground during the tour and most times you’re riding your bike on very busy areas so you have to be aware of your surroundings while managing to keep up with the tour. I’m only 5 foot so I had to use their smaller bike, which was actually perfect for me and I felt secure and stable while riding on it.

Great tour, wonderful places and a knowledgable guide

    Catriona_S, Apr 2024
Wonderful sights to see here - not just the spectacular temples, monuments and gardens, but fascinating to explore the back streets of Kyoto, and along the Philosophers Path with cherry blossoms in full bloom! Thanks so much Shaune for your fascinating insights into the history, religion and culture that made this bike tour even more special!

    Disappointing experience

    FREDERIQUE_B, Apr 2024
We were a greionof 5 - our family and another man from the US. When we arrived, 2 of the bikes were the size of a 8 years old, which was not compatible for my 1,76m and 1,80 teenagers (I had sent a photo previously so they could have checked the size). We had to insist to change them as it was a 6/7h ride! The leader Mayco was lovely however she wasn’t a guide. There was no story telling, no precise information on the monuments and therefore no bonding. It is a shame that a guide has to look for info on her phone. A folder with a map and info would have been ideal to understand each forthcoming stop and gain some in-depth info (she took it out once as we asked info on geikos ). The lunch on the busiest street in front of the silver pavilion was nothing special - we would have loved an off the beaten track experience. It was a sunny day and the cherry blossoms were il full bloom in the Philosopher’s path - we had to insist to stop for 15mn for photos. We had been looking for them in such condition for 8 days!! In the end, we stopped whenever we wanted and looked for info on our phones. The bike ride was great however we could have done it alone without spending 500 USD.. We felt disappointing

    Response from Host, May 2024

Hi Frederique, Firstly, I'd like to thank you and your family for joining us on the East tour and for taking the time to write such a detailed review of your experience with us. Of course, we are extremely sorry to hear that the experience was not 100% up to what you had hoped for. We always aim to provide the highest level of service, education, fun and enjoyment to every group we serve. There are obvious challenges at peak season that we face in terms of finding suitable restaurants without massive lines, and the logistical difficulties of manoeuvering through crowded places while keeping to the agreed schedule of the day. We will strive to always do better. Thank you once again

The perfect way to experience Kyoto

    Yony_K, Apr 2024
We spent a bit over a week exploring Japan's major cities, experiencing so many cool things. Still, this tour was *easily* the highlight of our entire trip. Jay was absolutely wonderful; knowledgable, friendly, funny, and just overall a great guy to spend the day with. We visited some of the can't-miss sites, but also some lesser known spots almost completely empty of tourists. And riding around the smaller streets and alleys of Kyoto was just as fun. We really felt like we got the feel of the city, and we topped it off with a fantastic lunch at a spot we would have easily missed without Jay. Just be sure you feel perfectly comfortable on a bike as a few of the paths go through crowds, roads, and sometimes slightly uneven terrain. I'll definitely be recommending this tour to my friends and family when they visit Kyoto!

    E bike tour of Kyoto

Biking with Juan through Kyoto was a major highlight of our trip. He is a wealth of knowledge in regards to history, culture, and foods. We loved all of our Kyoto sightseeing stops and would highly recommend!

Like being taken around by an old friend ... a warm, friendly guide who wanted to to love his city

    BeeT, Nov 2023
We spent the whole day biking around East Kyoto with Juan (who moved from San Diego to Kyoto 25+ years ago). Juan was an excellent tour guide in every aspect including safety and his knowledge of Kyoto historical sites and neighborhoods, and history. He also customized the tour to fit our needs as there was only 4 of us on the tour. He also took us to his favorite coffee shop (would not have found this by ourselves) and bustling ramen restaurant for lunch (which we would not have gotten seated so quickly if not for Juan's connections). Honestly it felt like we were being taken around by an old friend!
