Itinerary

Meet a private driver at your hotel by the Dead Sea, then travel to the ancient city of Jerash in a climate-controlled vehicle (the trip from the northern edge of the Dead Sea takes roughly 1.5 hours).

Learn the history of the ruined city, which was founded by Alexander the Great in the 2nd century B.C., and explore the sprawling site with a knowledgeable guide. Walk alongside long colonnades that line the Oval Plaza, see ancient theaters, and visit the temples where the people of Jerash would gather to worship.

With a private guide, your trip through Jerash can be customized to your interests, exploring the archeological site at your own pace. Following your time in Jerash, continue to the nearby city of Umm Qais, which looks out over the Northern Jordan Valley, the Sea of Galilee, and the Golan Heights.

Visit the Umm Qais Museum, an Ottoman governor’s house that’s been restored as a home for ancient artifacts, then take a walking tour of the oldest part of Umm Qais. Take in the Roman theater, the basilica church whose octagonal altar was once a temple, and city’s unusual east–west main street. Following your tour of Umm Qais, begin the return trip to the Dead Sea, where this tour concludes.
