Only 15% of Petra has been excavated — which means this self-guided audio tour through the Rose City walks you past mysteries archaeologists are still unraveling. Using the app, you'll follow the main trail at your own pace, from the towering Djinn blocks (said to house guardian spirits) through the narrow Siq gorge with its ancient water channels, to the Treasury's bullet-scarred urn. Along the way you'll learn how the Nabataeans built a thriving desert capital using hydro-engineering techniques the West wouldn't discover for millennia, and why a Roman governor admired the city so much he asked to be buried there. Start anytime, pause when you want to explore the tombs along the Street of Facades, and pick up right where you left off — no group schedule, no rushing past details. If you'd rather understand Petra than simply photograph it, this walking tour of Petra fits.
