History, Culture, and Hidden Spots… Highly Recommend

Highly recommend this tour… aside from visiting a hamam, it was the highlight of my trip. Kadir Kurt was incredibly knowledgeable and made the history, art, and religious context of Istanbul easy to understand and genuinely interesting. Because I visited in the slow season, it ended up being a 1:1 tour, which made it feel personal and flexible. We covered the main sights, but also wandered down quieter cobblestone streets, stopped at a small outdoor coffee spot for Turkish coffee, and explored some non-touristy areas as a break from the crowds. I left with a much deeper appreciation for Turkish life and culture… and it honestly felt like I made a new friend in Istanbul. Kadir was fantastic.

Sara made our Istanbul tour unforgettable! Her knowledge brought the city to life. From famous landmarks to hidden gems, she guided us efficiently and expertly. The tour was low-priced and kids-friendly. The only downside was that she initially wanted us to visit the stores of her friends, even when they were similar to ones she had said were not worth it. However, when I told her I didn’t want to go, she completely understood and stopped trying to convince me. Aside from that small detail, it was a wonderful tour, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic Istanbul experience!

We had the most amazing day with Emel! We couldn’t have asked for a better guide! We both learned so much about history, culture, and life in Istanbul. The Blue Mosque is one of the most amazing sites we’ve ever experienced. Emel was generous with her time and her expertise! We had an amazing lunch at her recommendation. Emel went above and beyond by helping us secure a dinner reservation at an incredible restaurant with our family. She did this on her own time and it was the highlight of our trip! We hope we will get to tour with her again!

The tour was terrific! I got to see everything I wanted to, including the Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, Hagia Sofia, Topkapı Palace, and the Basilica Cistern. Ms. Sibel is a fantastic tour guide and very knowledgeable about Turkey's history and culture. I highly recommend her for anyone wanting to see Istanbul.

My guide was the wonderful Emel. She ensured I was safe, comfortable and well taken care by everyone in this 1 day adventure around the city of Istanbul. She is beyond knowledgeable about the history of this city, she will tell you exactly which is the best angle and moment to take a picture, what's the best restaurant, hammam... time of the day to visit so & so. She made me feel extremely welcomed. I'm taking away from this experience not just some culture but precious memories of a warm and friendly Turkey. I highly recommend Emel and thank her for all of her loving care.

The whole tour was well thought out and highlighted all of the best places to see in Istanbul from mosques to palaces to quaint streets etc. we also managed to fit in a stop at a superb authentic ice cream parlor. Our guide was entertaining and enthusiastic and very accommodating of our requests. A must do trip.

Great experience but for a tangent

First, the guide was knowledgeable, patient and with great inter-personal skills. Second, we already had an Istanbul ePass and decided that we needed more than the guided part of the included tours. After this experience and having used ePass Dolmahache Palace and Basilica Cistern - I will say the ePass is no better or worse. That is, we gain a little more historical perspective in the private tour but not that much more. Also, and this is where I will ding the private tour: there was a bent towards influencing us to shop for rugs, ceramics, bags and jewelry. I should have firmly said no to it but you are in a very trusting space after spending so much time together with the guide. Very sure that the ePass would not have resulted in me buying a rug that I maybe would never have. No regrets and I do love it, but it was not part of the agenda nor I am sure if I I overpaid or what. That’s that.

We paid for a private tour. Serkan from Food Trail Istanbul tours was our guide. He was 30 minutes late. Yes it was raining and I’m sure he had trouble getting a taxi. He said he tried to call but of course it wasn’t until he was late and we were already in the lobby. So a phone call to the room wouldn’t help. We had to reimburse for the cab fare. The tour description said centrally located hotels, how was I to know that Taxim Square wasn’t considered centrally located? But worst of all, after only two hours of seeing some sights and a nice lunch, Serkan took us to a carpet retailer. We were trapped there for an hour with pressure to buy a rug. When we escaped that room, he took us to the coat retailer downstairs to “browse”, then on to the jeweler to look at rings, then to a tile maker and retailer, then to a leather goods retailer. Over half of our private tour was spent trying to get us to buy from his friends. We DONT SHOP. We were never advised that this would be on the itinerary. We were never asked if this was OK. We didn’t see anything of interest after lunch. However, we didn’t get back to our hotel until 5. I am terribly disappointed and more than a little upset. What a waste of a full day in Istanbul!!

Our private guide, Ozge Okumus, was amazing. The day began with a downpour of rain and did not stop all morning on this wet wet walking tour of Istanbul. But it was an amazing magical day for us and Ozge was the reason we had so much fun. We visited many wonderful sites in Istanbul, but enjoyed seeing the beautiful blue tile in a small mosque more that going into the Blue Mosque. The Topkapi Palace was huge, and with the rain we had coffee in the cafe on site instead...very enjoyable and relaxing. We saw the Grand Bazaar, spice market, Galata bridge and enjoyed the hustle of the city. Istanbul is a must see in your lifetime and this tour was perfect for us. Thank you Ozge.

Best guides we have ever had

Hands down the best tour guide/company we have had in all our travels. Emre and Fatih Kelek were so helpful, knowledgeable and personable. We were a large family and had difficultly getting transport, they arranged vans, luggage transport and several locations to see. Emre command of english was truely remarkable. We were able to see our sites, ask as many questions as we wanted and even get recommendations on shops and restaurants. Even my surrley 13 year old was impressed. We were so pleased with our guides, we hired then a second day. And when we return to Turkey, our first call will be to Bonita Tours and Emre to schedule our trip.
