Great Palace, but have a full day to get to see the cistern too.

The Palace is gorgeous and a must see. It sits right on the water with beautiful views. We spent 3 hours there on a rainy day, but would probably spend longer on a sunny day walking through the gardens. What we didn't realize is the basilica cistern is 30-40 min away from the palace with traffic. We unfortunately had to get back to our cruise ship for departure so we didn't get a chance to go to the cistern. This is a self guided tour with headsets, so in hindsight, we should have just went to the Palace on our own. We went the beginning of September on a Saturday so there were no crowds or lines to wait on for tickets.
