What To Expect
The island of Oahu is a hiker’s paradise—even with all the development—as the lush valleys of the Ko’olau Mountains are riddled with backcountry trails. The temperature here, even in winter, is right around 80°F (26°C), though the gentle trade winds help cool you off as you work up a sweat on the trail.
On this Oahu hiking tour, trek across 75 acres (30 hectares) of rain forest full of waterfalls, streams, and pools. Hear forest birds chirping in the waving green treetops as you walk past ancient rock walls, and listen as your guide explains this valley’s cultural and sacred past.
Expect to hike on a dirt trail for a total of four hours, and be sure to have your camera ready when you emerge at the thundering falls.

Great experience. Our tour guide was on time and very knowledgeable. We enjoyed the hike along with the scenic views.

The guide, Terii was amazing. He has knowledge of the plants, the wildlife, the geology , Hawai’i history and Hawaiian cultures - where people came from, how they lived hundreds of years ago, etc. Plus, the rainforest was teeming with plants and animals that we wouldn’t have even noticed without his trained eyes.

The description was not at all what the tour was. The tour guide was a nice guy but he did not know much about the history and we didn’t see much. It was not worth the money at all. There was some pretty look out points but if you were looking for a hike with pretty rainfalls and streams, do not book this.

Everything!!! The calm and the beauty of the rainforest. We took our time and went at our own pace. Our tour Guide was also amazing!!!
Eitan_G, Aug 2022
Terii is remarkably knowledgeable about all things Hawaii, from history and culture to botany. I’ve been to Hawaii ten times and learned more on this half-day hike than all of the other trips put together!

This tour was very fun and informative! The tour guide Daniel was extremely knowledgeable and courteous. The hike was beautiful and the views were amazing. The trail is very muddy FYI. Enjoy!

Terii was a great guide -- super kind and very knowledgeable. We had a fun time. Thank you, The Cassels

Our guide was great telling us about the forest, the plants along with how they got here, and even some politics. We would take another adventure with him in a heart beat. The trail is not easy.

The tour guide was amazing from start to finish. The weather was awesome and it was not muddy on our trip. The scenery was breathtaking and it was most enjoyed by all of us. I would highly recommend this trip.

Our guide, I believe his name is Rudolfo, was very personable and knowledgeable. I could tell he really cared about Oahu. I was surprised to learn how much of the foliage of Hawai’i is not native to these islands. I learned so much and had a great outdoor experience.
Response from Host, Nov 2019
Aloha and mahalo for your review. Yes, all of ours guides are passionate about these islands and their fragile eco-system. Rodolf is one of the best guides and has a relaxed style in his guiding talents. We hope you come join us again on another trip soon.
Bryan_B, Oct 2019
We did this hike with Rodolph the guide. We have done this tour before with other guides and each guide has a different path they like to take. Rodolph took us around the top of Mount Tantalus where there was lots of fruits to eat. We had strawberry guavas, kiwis and avocados right off the trees. The avocado was amazing. This is the best hiking tour available and we do it every time we come to Hawaii.
Response from Host, Oct 2019
Aloha and mahalo for taking your time to post a review. This is one of our staffs favorite hikes due to its higher elevation, cooler temperatures, views across the island and native habitat. We are glad you enjoyed it as much as we do. with Aloha, Bike Hawaii staff

I booked a 3 hours hike. They changed it to a not particularly spectacular half hour walk, whiteout any prior information. The guide was good thoug, friendly and knowledgeable.

Terry our guide/driver was so knowledgable and made this adventure memorable. Would recommend if you are not an avid hiker Terry will take good care of you on this hike. Would recommend this trip and the whole process was very enjoyable from start to finish.

Absolutely fantastic excursion and one I'm going to repeat in August when wee are back. Elika was by far, the coolest guide I've ever been on a hike with. Very personal experience. Wee got an education on e fitting from local eateries on our way to the trailhead, to almost every plant.
Kimberley R, Oct 2017
Really lovely hike. Guide was really good. Would recommend to others.
Penny_F, Apr 2017
I never knew that there where different ginger plants and they had flowers so pretty. Very informative tour and got to see waterfall. Make sure to spray loads of bug spray before heading up as I sprayed only a little and am now covered in bites but so worth it.

I loved the tour as far as walking in the rainforest. It was a bit muggy and muddy but I expected that. The waterfall wasn't what I thought it would be. It was tall but not as powerful. It was not very wide and didn't have much water coming down.
Shawna A, Jul 2016
The tour was great for what it was. Not very long and not very challenging but it was very nice. Tour guide was nice and described all the plants around us.
KjerstiTunheim_P, Apr 2016
A small goup tour with an outstending guide with a lot of knowlegde of Hawaii and its nature. He took a lot of stops on the way up to the waterfall to show us and learn us about the nature and that made the climb up easy for everybody. There was no water in the waterfall but we cant blame the tour for that. Rekommend this tour to everyone that wants to see some more and learn of the Hawaii nature

Tour was awesome and our guide, Matias, was very professional and knowledgeable our the area and history of where we hiked. I would recommend this tour to others.
Jessica M, Aug 2014
Such a great tour! Our guide, I forgot his name but he had short blonde hair and i think was born in Sweden, was fantastic and kept me motivated during the rains, humidity, mosquitoes, mud sliding and water crossings! Very knowledgable and kudos for all the trail work they do. Best tour I went on!
bianca o, Aug 2014
I am very out of shape so this hike kicked my butt! Great hike but expect to be tired.
Darren B, Mar 2014
Well hosted with a very knowledgeable guide. Great way to get in to the heart of nature on the island. Slow paced with plenty of water stops so that even the slower among the group were able to easily keep up. Good fun!
Michaeline_M, Apr 2013
The tour guide was very good. Enjoyed the whole trip. The time on the tour is what was expected. Would definitely recommend to others.
Ronald_D, Mar 2013
We loved it and our guide was wonderful. The very small waterfall was disappointing, but everything else was great.
Cosima V, Feb 2013
We highly recommend this hiking adventure to all in good health. The guide is very informative about the rainforest. It is beautiful and another view of Hawaii that I did not know existed. The boots are optional but we wore them and are very glad we did since some areas are muddy and we did cross a few streams. The waterfall is awesome. The guide stopped periodically and let us rest as he described the plants. He was friendly.

If you're looking for something to do other than lay on the beaches of Hawaii, this is it! Mattias was a fabulous guide and taught us so much about the rainforest! You will most likely be pretty wet when you're all done, but it is so worth it to get to the waterfall at the end! Beautiful place!
Nichole, Dec 2012
Very beautiful rainforest and fun hike. Wonderful guide. Make sure you use the bug spray!
CHERYLL E, Aug 2012
