Begin your day on Lantau Island with convenient pickup at your hotel in Kowloon. Board the comfortable coach and transfer to the island.
Travel to Lantau Island, where you will board the Ngong Ping Cable Car, which connects Tung Chung and Ngong Ping. As you travel up to the Tian Tan Buddha, enjoy panoramic views of the Giant Buddha, North Lantau Country Park, the Hong Kong International Airport, and views of the South China Sea.
When you reach the Tian Tan Buddha, ascend the 268 steps to reach its base and explore the 3-floor museum beneath the statue. The museum includes a relic of Sakyamuni, The Hall of Remembrance, The Hall of Benevolent Merit, and The Hall of Universe.
Continue to the Po Lin Monastery, the most popular Buddhist temple in Hong Kong. After exploring the monastery and the world's largest outdoor Buddha, sit down for a Chinese Vegetarian lunch.
Take a boat trip to the Tai O fishing village, whose houses on stilts provide a glimpse of what life was like in Hong Kong's past.

If no one answers the phone call after office hour, please telephone again at 0700 next day to add you in the pickup list. Otherwise the tour bus will not go to your hotel.
- Upon pickup, your tour guide will find you by eye contact, or read your name from the pickup list. Meeting point is hotel lobby or you will be advised of the nearest meeting place to meet with your guide. Please be waiting at the meeting place 10 minutes prior to departure. No refund for your no show or late arrival.
- When Ngong Ping Cable Car will be suspended to carry out bi-monthly regular scheduled maintenance, or closed due to severe weather warning, alternative coach transportation will be available during the cable car service suspension. This tour will be operated by coach transfer between Ngong Ping and Tung Chung. No reduction in the tour price for the lack of the cable car ride.
- If you live in a hotel on Lantau Island (Disney Resorts, Novotel Citygate, SkyCity Marriott, Regal Airport Hotel etc): (1) The meeting time is 10:55 from the Taxi Stand at Tung Chung cable car station. You need to take a Lantau taxi (blue) to Tung Chung Cable Car Station. It costs around HKD118 one way for 20 minute driving distance. (2) Tour ends at Tung Chung Cable Car Station at 4pm. (3) Round trip taxi fare will be paid by yourself. No refund or discount on original tour price. (4) No refund for no show or late arrival

Upgrade to crystal cable car is a must, our guide Bekky spoke very good English and was very knowledgeable and has a happy disposition and made our trip very memorable.

Experiencing the Big Buddha in Hong Kong is a must do. It was a rainy day but that made it even more special. Being able to walk the streets of the fisherman village and trying a traditional lunch was the cherry on top of a perfect day. Our private tour included moving in taxis and the bus with the locals which was also a treat to experience a slice on their everyday life. The most important component of our day was out guide. He was knowledgable, kind, funny and accomodating. Our guide Edward, certainly won the day!

Jovita Yeung, our tour guide was outstanding. Excellent English, perfect food choices meeting all different requests, she even made changes on the spot to fit a more comfortable ride for us since the cable car was not working. We did not get to see the pink dolphins but the captain did wait long enough for the opportunity. Very nice all together.

It rained and was misty and the cable car was not operating (bus substitute) but Becky our guide made the day most enjoyable by flexing the plan to make the most of the conditions. She deserved 5 stars but I gave 4 because of the problems outside her control.

If I could give this experience a detailed rating, I'd be giving it a 3.5 stars out of 5.
Despite inclement weather, we enjoyed the sightseeing portion of this tour. The cable car, the temple, the buddha statue, and the fishing village on stilts were all well worth checking out, and a great way to spend a day on Lantau island. The tour company and tour guide were even accommodating of our request to link up with the tour group on Lantau island itself (since that was where we were staying).
Our only major complaint was the included meal, which was confusing. We booked the tour expecting to experience a fully vegetarian lunch at the monastery, as that was listed on the program itinerary and description. During the tour we were confused when time was not set aside at the monastery location for a meal. Some aspects of the itinerary had been shuffled around due to the weather, so we just rolled with it as it was happening, expecting that maybe the meal portion would fit in later, when we came back through the monastery area. We proceeded to the next stop on the itinerary, enjoyed the boat ride around the fishing village, and then were completely blindsided by transitioning to a meal at a seafood restaurant in the fishing village. My wife is vegetarian and I am pescatarian, so when we booked this experience we were both excited to have the chance to eat a meal that fit both of our dietary preferences, but a majority of the dishes in the meal actually served contained ingredients we could not eat. The tour guide seemed frustrated when we brought this to her attention, but did make an effort to accommodate our needs. We did not leave hungry, but definitely disappointed and confused, having had a lot less food variety than everyone else in the group got to taste.
The tour guide did ask us when we linked up with the tour if we had any food allergies, specifically. Neither of us do, so we answered no, and we at that point in the day were both expecting the meal to be vegetarian anyway, so we didn't even think to discuss vegetarian dietary preferences (as they aren't allergy-related). This seems to be a part of the mix-up because when we asked her about the vegetarian lunch later, she reminded us that we said we had no allergies. The conversation was mildly tense, and it made us feel like we had somehow made a mistake, even though we checked the original listing again and it did make mention of the meal we were expecting. We both think that it is important to clarify food allergies and dietary needs in general as these are two separate questions that are both important for a group participant's ability to fully enjoy an included meal. We both think that something should be done to make it clearer in the booking and itinerary and activity descriptions exactly what kind of food/dining experience is to be expected ahead of time, because clearly there was some major miscommunication. The tour guide did do a good job overall of addressing the situation.
The listing still makes reference to "Chinese-style vegetarian lunch at Po Lin Monastery" as part of the itinerary (as long as you don't book the basic package, which doesn't include a meal), and to this day, we are still unclear why this is not what we received. This was the only major disappointment of our experience, even on a day with a pretty serious downpour.

Definitely not what we expected. You don’t get private 7 seating car. It was mini bus with 20 people. A lot of time spend in village and not barely any at Buddha. We got 30 minutes at Buddha’s with a lot of rush climbing the stairs but were over 2 hours at village wasting time (wanting us to shop). We did public transport couple times not sure why bus wasn’t provided. I think the itinerary should definitely be updated. The lunch was definitely hard for us to eat due to sanitation practices.

Thank you for your feedback. After reviewing your booking, we can confirm that you selected the shared group option, which is operated with a mid-size coach of up to 20 guests. Private 7-seater vehicles are only available under the upgraded private tour option.
Our itinerary does not include any shopping stops. The time spent in Tai O (around 2 hours) includes lunch and the optional boat experience, which are key parts of the cultural visit. The visit to the Big Buddha is arranged within the overall schedule to balance travel time and multiple highlights.
Regarding transportation, certain parts of the journey involve public transport as stated in the tour design, allowing guests to experience local travel.
As for the meal, Tai O is a traditional fishing village with over 100 years of history, and the food reflects authentic local Hong Kong flavors and dining style.
We appreciate your comments and will continue to review how we present the itinerary to ensure expectations are as clear as possible.

Great trip and guide Daisy did wonderful. We rode the cable car and then a bus across to the fishing village. Not everyone had selected lunch but it was a local place and we had a very nice quick lunch. Back to the big Budda area. Visited the monasteries and then up the 168 steps to Big Budda if you wanted. Great views. The only downside to the trip is if you upgrade to the Crystal cabin you don’t have to wait in a long ride, but others in your group may have standard cabin tickets and you have to wait on them both ways. I would suggest changing the trip
to only have one option. That said make sure to choose the crystal cabin option if you can. 5-10 min in line on the weekend instead of an hour for the standard ticket.

We booked this tour through Viator and paid the full price expecting to experience the cable car. When the guide arrived at our hotel, we were told the cable cars were under maintenance for three days. Later, we learned this maintenance had been scheduled in advance, so the operator should have known , but the tour was still advertised as normal and we were charged full price.
Instead of the advertised tour, the guide arranged a taxi to the bus station, then we traveled by public transport (No Cable car) to the Big Buddha, continued to a fishing village, and returned using a mix of public transport and taxi. This was completely different from what we booked and paid for.
Since we were leaving next day, rescheduling was impossible. When we requested a refund, Viator said the operator did not approve the refund.
Viator should be more careful when choosing operators, especially when they earn commissions from bookings.
Overall, this was one of the most disappointing tours we have ever experienced. We booked through Viator because of its reputation, but this experience has changed our view. We are sharing our own experience to warn others.

The Ngong Ping cable car occasionally undergoes scheduled maintenance, which can occur during certain periods. Prior to the tour, we sent a notification regarding this adjustment and offered the option to change the booking free of charge.
Regarding transportation, due to environmental regulations on Lantau Island, regular tour vehicles are not permitted on certain internal roads. Therefore, taxis and public transport are sometimes necessary to complete the itinerary and reach the Big Buddha and Tai O.
As for the Crystal Cabin experience that was not available, we would be happy to welcome you again in the future. If you choose to book our basic tour again, we would gladly offer a complimentary upgrade to the Crystal Cabin or provide a Tai O local snack/cooking experience as a gesture of goodwill.

Minibus collected from multiple hotels - had a couple of WhatsApp calls to say running late. Tour guide very friendly and full of energy, which calmed down once on the way ! A very good way to see the island.

I initially just wanted to see the statue of Buddha. But it turned out to be more than I anticipated. The cable car ride up and back was long but some great views. Our guide Becky was adept at explaining and keeping our group of 9 individuals together. Lunch was quite good as well.

Not impressed at all!
We booked this activity because of the cable cars and paid extra to have the crystal cabin to enable to view through the floor. Late afternoon before the tour we had a message from the guide to tell us the cable cars were under maintenance and we would not be able to participate in this section of the tour. They implied they only just knew but we were told by a third party this maintenance had been scheduled for a while. Therefore why was the company still accepting bookings for this date? And worse still allowing you to upgrade to the crystal cabins which are an additional fee?
This was our last day in Hong Kong so we were unable to reschedule. Had we known earlier we would have made alternative arrangements for another trip.
This most definitely was not a “private” tour. We shared with another two travellers on the initial part of the trip, and then had to transfer to public transportation to get to the fishing village due to the cable cars not working. When travelling from the village to the monastery the guide crammed 4 of us on the back seat of a taxi which had definitely seen better days (not even sure if that was legal)
I questioned a discount and was assured that we would be contacted by the tour company but I haven’t heard anything.
This day was an unorganised mess with the guide scrambling to flag down taxis and hanging about in bus stations . I 100% would not recommend it. Most certainly did not meet expectations or the money we paid.

We loved having Becky as our tour guide. She gives just the right line of information and then lets us visit the sites. The lunch at a small restaurant in the fishing village was outstanding. Well worth the time spent!

This was by far the worst tour experience I have ever had in my life, and an outright failure and misrepresentation by both Viator and the local provider.
I booked and paid for a PRIVATE tour with a confirmed 9:30 AM pickup at the cruise port. No one showed up. No communication. No explanation.
At 10:00 AM, a GROUP tour bus arrived instead. I was then told it was not a private tour at all, and that it would take EIGHT HOURS, despite my booking being for FOUR HOURS ONLY. This was completely unacceptable and impossible, as my cruise ship was departing at 5:00 PM.
This was not a minor error — it was a total breach of the booking. The driver acknowledged the mistake and explicitly stated that I would be refunded. That promise was false. The provider is now refusing to issue a refund.
This experience wasted my limited port time, caused unnecessary stress, and completely ruined our day in Hong Kong. It was dishonest, incompetent, and unprofessional from start to finish.
I will never use Viator again, and I strongly warn others not to book tours through this platform, especially in Hong Kong. If you value your time, money, or peace of mind, do not use Viator.

We would like to clarify the facts of this booking for an objective review.
Pickup arrangement & communication
The confirmed pickup time and location were provided to you one day in advance. On the tour day, due to unexpected traffic conditions at the cruise port, the vehicle arrived approximately 20 minutes later than scheduled. During this time, our team remained in contact with you by both email and phone to keep you informed of the situation.
Tour type
According to the booking record, the reservation was made for a Group Tour, not a Private Tour. This is clearly stated on the product page and in the confirmation voucher. No private service was booked or charged.
On-site cancellation
When the guide and vehicle arrived, you requested to cancel the tour on the spot, stating that the group duration did not match your cruise schedule. Our guide spent approximately 20 minutes communicating with you and attempting to offer possible solutions. Your decision to cancel was made on-site and at your request, after the guide and vehicle had already arrived.
Operational impact
The extended on-site communication and last-minute cancellation caused delays to the pickup of other guests on the same group tour. We sincerely apologized to all affected guests for this disruption.
We respect your decision not to proceed with the tour; however, the service provided was in accordance with the confirmed booking type and communicated arrangements. We kindly advise that for future bookings, all service options (Private vs Group, duration, and timing) be carefully reviewed and confirmed in advance, as last-minute changes are subject to availability and operational constraints.
This is an amazing excursion if organised and carried out in the way advertised. Not fully what I booked. I expected Cable car then adequate time to visit and explore and appreciate Big Buddha and the monastery. I then expected a vegetarian lunch at the monastery, time to visit the shops for souvenirs then the visit to Tai O with boat ride then cable car return. Instead, we had a whistlestop tour of the monastery then we were told we were going on public transport to Tai O for boat ride and lunch then back to Big Buddha. I queried would we have time to actually go up to Big Buddha as we were to be back at the cable car for 3.10pm. Having done this tour twice I knew we wouldnt. We reluctantly went to Tai O but agreed with the guide we didnt want to lunch there as we would prefer to spend the time doing what we came for, which was to experience Big Buddha. She reimbursed us the cost of lunch and the bus fare back. We planned to take our time and if we didnt meet up again with the group then we would get a taxi back to our hotel at our own expense. We did meet up with the group again as they were delayed in Tai O. So we made the right decision and did get the time to fully experience Big Buddha. The disorganisation and uncertainty of the day, and not having lunch at Po Lin spoiled the experience as this was an eagerly anticipated tour for our daughter and son in law

Rex was wonderful! I felt like I got to see and do so much. Skipped lots of long lines. He gave us copious information but still left us time to meander and shop.

This was a very fun tour of Lantau for first timers. Definitely some walking and the boat tour was a bit rocky. I had to take some anti nausea pills. A bit disappointed that we didn’t see any dolphins but it was too cold for them to come out. It’s better to come when it’s warmer to catch a glimpse of them. Jovita was very nice and informative. We really appreciate her knowledge of history and culture. We liked the fishing village and people were super friendly. This tour picked us up from our hotel but can only drop off near tsim sha tsiu. But for us, pick up was key as getting there on our own would’ve taken a lot longer and we wouldn’t have been able to see as much. Definitely recommend this tour.

We had the best day! Rex was a wonderful guide and we loved visiting the big buddah, po Lin monastery and tai o. We even got to see the pink dolphins. It was great to hear so much about Hong Kong, Lantau island, the buddah and monastery. Would definitely recommend this tour and splurge on the crystal cabin, it’s worth it!!

Booked as private tour but ended up a small group tour. Reason provided by the tour provider that even though it indicated as private tour but actually shouldn’t be for the rate we paid it wasn’t enough!?
As for the tour, it was ok. Not very well organized.
