The lantern making was so much fun. All staff were incredibly helpful and patient, in addition to providing fantastic banter. In fact we went back to buy more, the following day! Very reasonably priced and there was a great selection of fabrics and shapes and they even offered pre-made lanterns to buy as well as DIY kits to take home.

Colored lanterns are a symbol of Hoi An, where locals believe they bring happiness, luck, and wealth. What To Expect

Make your own way to the artisan’s workshop in Hoi An’s Cam Pho district in time for your morning or afternoon lantern-making class. You’ll be greeted by your host, a master lantern-maker, and offered some traditional herbal tea as you learn about the history and cultural traditions of Vietnamese silk lanterns.

Next, it’s time to get hands-on as you learn the ancient art of lantern-making. Choose a lotus, diamond, sunrise, or sunset shape for your lantern, then learn how to assemble the 12 bamboo stakes and attach wire thread to create the desired shape. Finally, insert the bamboo stakes into a lantern hanger, then stretch your chosen silks around the lantern and add your choice of tassel to complete your lantern.

At the end of the class, take home your handmade lantern as a souvenir. Locals believe that hanging them in front of their house brings luck, happiness, and wealth.

This is a MUST if you are in Hoi An! SO Much fun and a great activity. You make your own lantern from start to finish and get to customise it however you want. It’s actually quite tricky but the team help you along! Well worth the money

What a great time my daughter and I had makong lanterns on a cloudy afternoon. The team were very helpful and made us laugh at their critique of our amateur lantern making skills. The family business has been passed down by generations and the young members were very happy and funny in a great atmosphere. We had a lot of fun making lanterns in this workshop! We did the full 2 hour experience where you all construct the bamboo frame of the lantern (which was worth the extra time!) and put the fabric on it. Our instructor Huy was both funny and helpful! He also told us a bit about the different shapes of lanterns you see and where they came from. Overall a wonderful experience and you end with with a great souvenir too!

Awesome experience and a great way to spend a couple of hours enjoying Vietnamese culture. The instructors were efficient, helpful and funny. They kept the class moving and worked with everyone at your pace. It takes the full 2 hours to complete. I purchased some kits to take home for friends. You can buy the completed lanterns cheaper at the local markets but you miss out on the fun of creating your own. Highly recommend this activity.

This experience is operated by a brother and sister and all workers were relatively young. They were so good natured, helpful, and funny it made the experience extra special. They also made sure to fix our mistakes so the lanterns we made were beautiful. Even the men at the class were having a good time!

An absolute must do in the city of lanterns. Tam and her brothers are wonderful, ensuring not only do you come away with a beautiful lantern but also with a huge smile on your face. The lesson is fun-filled and so enjoyable, all the while being carefully supervised by these very talented siblings. I can’t wait to make another lantern with them when I visit next.
