From the Miyajima Ferry port, go across the public area. You will find the Lawson and red sign of "okeiko Japan" Go through the alley next to Lawson, trough the tunnel and turn left. You will find another sign at the end of the street. Turn right and soon left. Come inside the temple.

The tea experience was thorough, going through each of the steps with explanation and reverence for the Japanese history and tradition.
The dressers were very respectful and did not hurry the client, but included hair jewelry, different obi styles and kimonos that flattered the client
The calligraphy class was instructive, but, of necessity provided just an introduction with encouragement, good brushes and ink, and an interested and interesting teacher
We had fun and enjoyed every minute

We had an amazing time at Okeiko. The ladies who ran the experience were very experienced, incredibly kind, and wonderful to talk to. They helped us pick our kimonos and assessories, expertly dressed us, and then took photos and videos in the temple grounds, which were shared with us afterwards. After photos were taken, we proceeded with the tea ceremony. The ladies talked us through the process and shared tea with us before we got an opportunity to make matcha tea ourselves. Finally we practised caligraphy before we picked our preferred kanji and painted it our own shamoji, which we got to take home with us.
We truly had an amazing time, and we're taking home many memories to cherish. I strongly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Miyajima.

This was an amazing event. It was so much fun getting dressed up in the Kimono's the ladies were very kind getting us dressed, going out into the beautiful gardens and having our pictures was great! the pictures that was taken was wonderful to have.
Learning the reasoning and how to do the tea ceremony was fun. And then actually making our tea was a lot of fun! However We were unable to finish both cups of matcha tea :-( we do apologize for that.
We had a wonderful teacher for our calligraphy, Yuko was very patient with us.
All the ladies spoke wonderful English that was wonderful.
The surprise for us was all the pictures that you took of us during the day, it was wonderful to have.

This experience was easily one of the highlights of our trip. My friend loved putting on the kimono robes and sandals. I wish I had lost a little weight before this but I was glad they had my size and I was able to fit the robes as well. The whole tea ceremony was super interesting because every move is thought through. The calligraphy was fun, too, even though it's not as easy as it looks. The photo shoot was great fun, too! I appreciate the two ladies working there as they were very kind and pleasant and laughed along with us. This is a must do when visiting Japan1

Everyone was amazing! We got there very early because it was so hot outside and they let us sit and wait. They had a lot of cool stuff in their shop too.
There is a large selection of beautiful kimono to choose from. And they took so many pictures of us. We really enjoyed watching the tea ceremony and then being able to practice it. And they were very patient with us as we practiced our calligraphy skills. Everyone agreed afterwards that this was the highlight of our trip.
The only downside was that they share the pictures they took through Instagram which I think is not an issue for most people, but my group didn't have it so I had to download the app to get the pictures. But the people, service and experience were a 10/10

Loved being dressed in a kimono we had lots of pictures taken during the entire tour. Making tea was interesting and trying to write a few symbols in Japanese was a lot harder than it looked. Our efforts on wooden spoons were beautifully wrapped for a souvenir

After adventuring around Japan for a few weeks, my mom and I were pretty tired and wanted a rest day but had already booked this experience. We went back and forth on skipping it or not but ultimately we just decided to get on the shinkansen from Shin-Osaka at 6am and make our way to Miyajima. We are SO glad we did!! This was definitely a highlight of our trip! The grounds of the temple were so pretty and everyone was so friendly and welcoming upon us first showing up. We started by getting dressed in kimono (you get to pick from a few in your size), socks, obi, cord, flower etc all with help of course. For a girly girl, "dress up" is always fun, let alone learning and getting to put on something beautiful and steeped in culture and tradition. From there we had a great tea ceremony where we learned so many little intricacies of the tea ceremony from first watching and then by doing. We whisked our own matcha after learning the mannerisms. The tea bowls were by local artisans and absolutely gorgeous! After this, we went to the calligraphy room and practiced some kanji but also our names :) Throughout the entire cultural experience, pictures were being taken of us which is so appreciated. I definitely recommend this experience!

An excellent combination of activities in a beautiful place! We experienced a super interesting afternoon and great hospitality at Okeiko. It’s both serieus (the ceremony) and fun and interactive. The explanation in English was excellent so we have a better understanding of this part of Japanese culture now. Alle the (family) pictures taken were a great bonus and a lovely memory of this special day. Highly recommend!

Ein einzigartiges, wunderschönes und sehr berührendes Erlebnis. Gerade wenn man mit etwas Abstand zu den tiefgehenden Erfahrungen in Hiroshima etwas Ruhe, Reflektion und Abstand braucht, sehr zu empfehlen! Super sympathische Menschen bei allen Aktivitäten. Schade, dass man nur 5 und nicht 6 Sterne vergeben kann!
