The experience didn’t start out great for us. We had some bad experiences with the shared limousines. We were picked up and taken to a stop, then told to change to a different car. There was limited English and we were told the car would arrive in 15 minutes. We waited for about 30 minutes then got into this other car, no information as to what was going on.
When we got to Sapa, the driver dropped off the other passengers to different hotels then asked us where we were going. We were confused as we weren’t given any details for a hotel or where to meet the tour guide. I tried messaging the trip operator and calling multiple times no answer. We tried calling the company and spoke to someone, but they didn’t seem to understand what was happening. We ended up being dropped at a hotel and told to wait there 15 minutes. We waited in the cold for 60 minutes trying to figure out what was going on. By this point it was 2pm and we hadn’t had lunch or been given directions for lunch.
Ended up getting in touch with the tour operator who was great and sorted it out for us. For us to go into the hotel eat lunch and wait for the tour guide. She was apologetic and offered us a private guided trek instead of the group to which we accepted.
The trek was amazing, a once in a lifetime experience. Was difficult and 1/2 of it was complete mud (so be prepared). There is a lot of slipping and a lot of difficult sections. If you don’t have proper boots make sure you take the option to hire the gumboots.
Homestay was amazing no complaints there.
On our trip home we had another bad experience with the limousine. He picked up 2 Vietnamese passengers along the way and proceeded to drop them to their hotels before us, which added another 1 hour to our already very long trip. We were tired and just wanted to get back and shower. There was also no communication as to what was going on, he was just driving around the city and dropping them off.
Overall; would I recommend yes. But be prepared!

This was a great experience but a few stars removed because of the lack of information up front and bad shared limousine experiences. I still recommend this trip for the remote trek and local guide provided.
What to expect (quick version):
Day 1 morning, shared limousine van from Hanoi to Sapa
Hotel luggage check in, lunch provided. Take items for overnight at homestay and day 2 trek
Trek ~ 3 hours through remote parts of Sapa and towards homestay village
Homestay overnight, dinner and breakfast provided
Day 2 trek towards another village through bamboo forest and waterfall. There is more paved road option during day 2 for weary travelers from day 1
Lunch provided at next village, take transportation back to hotel to gather any luggage you left there, then take final shared limousine van back to Hanoi
First, this is not an "Easy" trek. You should plan for 3 hours each day of moderate hiking. The guide can change parts of the trek depending on the group but there are some switch back type parts of the trek.
Transportation - We were provided a shared limousine van (11 seater) to and from Sapa from Hanoi. Each experienced varied and overall was okay. Our first van ride had additional guests who were constantly on their phones and our second ride back to Hanoi was more tightly packed with luggage in seats and aisle.
Itinerary - Some of the details was not included in the original itinerary. When we got to Sapa, we checked our luggage in at a local hotel. They stored our luggage and provided us with our first included lunch from some choices from a set menu. The lunch was good.
Then we met with our local guide, Lala, who provided the details for our itinerary. We would trek with her towards our homestay in another village. We had two other groups with us who were doing one day trek and they would get a ride back to the hotel once we reached the village.
The trek was amazing and as mentioned, expect a moderate level of exercise while hiking this first part. Other local women joined us to help guide us through the trek but note they will be trying to sell you their local craft items, pretty aggressively towards the end of the trek when you reach the final village. Our trip was in summer so we also had several kids along the way selling items as well. There were several rest stops along the way which was nice, one of them had water, snacks, and other drinks but be mindful these items cost money. You should always ask how much something is before taking it, whether food or souvenirs.
Our homestay was nice and we had originally requested 3 separate rooms for our group. The homestay is rustic, we had a fan and mosquito net over our bed in each room. Bathrooms and showers were just outside the rooms. Fortunately it wasn't too hot the night when we were there. The homestay family was very nice and attentive. Dinner and breakfast next day was included in the trip package cost and were very good and once again varied. You pay for any additional drinks or snacks you order from their menu.
Day 2 started with rain and some in our group were very tired from the day 1 trek and opted to stay behind and meet the rest at the next destination, a restaurant for lunch. This was a separate fee we paid that the homestay helped us arrange. Day 2 trek included a nice moderate trek through a bamboo forest and waterfall. Our guide asked if we wanted any other local assistance during this trip but also reminded us that they would try and sell items and we opted to ask her to let them know we didnt need any additional assistance or interested in buying anything else. The trek finished at another village where we had lunch (also included in the package) and then a shared van back to the first hotel where we left our luggage. They also provided us with a shower and then we took our final shared limousine ride back to Hanoi.
Final thoughts - the trek was great and we got to see the more remote and village side of Sapa. The views were fantastic along the way. Our guide Lala was so nice, spoke very good english, and made our experience very memorable. I would recommend this trip if you want to see beautiful landscapes and have a moderate trek through Sapa.

The view was amazing, tour guide and homestay people were super lovely as well.
I am warning you when you’re there the people will try to sell you bracelets and crafts and they don’t have change to give you. Even though my sapa tour guide was amazing her friends happened to appear at our 4 hour hike to conveniently sell their craft to us.
Since her friends walked with us for the 4 hours and was super lovely it was very hard to say no but I was definitely out of pocket from buying their crafts.
You just need to watch out for this when in sa pa because a lot of people are like this there, unavoidable
