Itinerary

Greet your guide at your hotel and climb aboard your air-conditioned minivan to begin your journey to Guadalajara’s historic downtown. Stop at the ambient Plaza de Armas and gaze at the majestic twin-towers of the cathedral. Hailed as one of the city’s most spectacular sights, the incredible structure harbors a richly embellished interior with Gothic vaults and prismatic stained glass windows.

Next, journey to Liberation Square, a scenic sprawl of charming colonial buildings shrouded in history. From here, visit the creative Instituto Cultural de Cabanas to witness another example of Guadalajara’s stunning architecture before exploring the museum of modernist murals within. Capture the essence of neo-classical splendor with a visit to the Degollado Theater before absorbing the authentic atmosphere of Plaza de la Rotonda. Listen to your knowledgeable guide as the story of the stunning sculptural monument within the square is revealed.

Afterward, immerse yourself in the convivial Mercado Libertad, an energetic and exuberant market considered to be one of Mexico’s biggest. Wander past colorful stalls that burst with diverse produce; see exotic fruits, handwoven rugs, scented candles, and beautiful flowers on the 2,600 stalls.

Return to the minivan to enjoy the scenic journey to Tlaquepaque, a charming provincial village 4 miles (7 km) southeast of Guadalajara. Relax and enjoy free time wandering the quaint, cobblestone streets, and admiring the picturesque architecture. Purchase an appetizing and authentic lunch from a local restaurant before visiting the village’s principal arts and crafts market, in which handmade pottery, woodcarvings, and leather items reign supreme.

Tour to remember

JESUS_O, Mar 2026
One of the best tours I’ve had. Our guide Sergio Novia went out of his way to give us a tour to remember. He took the time to gift us a very special set of pictures, since it was my wife’s Birthday. A special thanks to Sergio and his services. We will definitely be back. ……….

A great time in Guadalajara!!!

Gil_B, Feb 2026
Had a great time with Ronny! Great guided and very informative! Learned a lot about the city and made the tour quite fun.Ronny did a great job, thank you!

Incredible Private-Level Experience on a Group Tour

James_N, Feb 2026
We had an incredible experience on our Guadalajara city tour, and it truly exceeded our expectations. What was supposed to be a group tour ended up being just the two of us, and Mr. Sergio Novia handled it with the same enthusiasm and professionalism as if we were a full group, which we deeply appreciated. Throughout the entire day, he shared in-depth history, culture, and stories about Guadalajara in a way that was engaging and thought-provoking. His knowledge went far beyond basic facts; he provided context, answered all our questions thoroughly, and helped us understand the heart and identity of the city. We ended the day with a deeper appreciation of the city and its people. He also generously took photos and videos for us throughout the tour using his own camera, making sure we captured beautiful memories without feeling rushed. That extra effort made the experience feel personal and special. We had a tour guide and a cameraman in one. What more could we have asked for? If you’re looking for a guide who is knowledgeable, patient, passionate about Guadalajara, and genuinely cares about his guests’ experience, we highly recommend him. This tour was one of the highlights of our trip.

Best tour guide ever-Norberto

Susanna_G, Apr 2025
It is a really nice tour covering different parts of Guadalajara history and culture. First we were the only couple who reserved the tour on this day and travel company did not dropped us as I heard happening to some other people. This is the first plus! Then our tour guide Norberto gave us the best private tour shearing knowledge of the place, culture, food and architecture. Can’t thank enough of him.

Guadalajara city tour

Deepak_K, Apr 2024
The town of Guadalajara is amazing with many beautiful sites to see. Our guide, Ronnie was excellent. However, I thought the tour was overpriced, and perhaps the same sites could be covered in half a day and for less amount.

Response from Host, Apr 2024

Dear Deepak_, We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the beauty of Guadalajara and found Ronnie to be an excellent guide! We appreciate your feedback regarding the tour duration and pricing. Your input helps us continually improve our services. Kind regards from the entire quality team at Amigo Tours, Chelsea

Historical tour of Guadalajara and Tlaqpaque

Teresa_A, Feb 2024
Our tour guide provided us with the history and architecture of the area. fascinating information and he had knowledge of all areas, answered our questions. He was a delightful person and most gracious. We were fortunate to have a private tour.

Great Day !

Joseph_B, Jan 2024
Hector was the best tour guide we’ve ever had! We were shown the best places and learned so much history from him. We wanted to see Tonal and he had no problem adding that spot to our day! He also recommended the best place for lunch in Tlaquepaque ! I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to visit! Thank you Hector!!!

Great way to get to know Guadalajara

Eric_C, Dec 2023
This tour was a great way to get to know Guadalajara. Our primary guide, Norberto, was very knowledgeable, entertaining, and he really did a great job answering our questions. A highlight of the tour for us was the Museo de las Artes de La Universidad de Guadalajara which has fantastic murals by Jose Clemente Orozco. We were also able to do the walking portion of the tour, including the Plaza de Armas, Catedral de Guadalajara, Retonda de los Jalisciences ilustres and Fuente de los Danzantes with another guide, Carmen, who was also very knowledgeable and entertaining. The tour finished with a laid back visit to Tlaquepaque for lunch and shopping. This was a great tour for the price.

Informative and beautiful

Maria_A, Nov 2023
The trip was amazing filled with lots of history and beautiful locations to visit. Our tour guide Ronni and driver Edgar were amazing. They offered recommendations to places to eat and shop.

Well worth it!

Bekah_W, Oct 2023
Well worth doing. Ronny our tour guide knew so much and we ended up on a private tour as nobody else has booked that day. He was great at taking photos and took us round a lot of the city giving us the opportunity to roam about ourselves in Tlaquepaque. 100% would recommend. He was great! Thanks for looking after us for the day Ronny!

Abdul_Y, Jul 2022
I really enjoyed this tour, our tour guide was very knowledgeable and very friendly. He patiently took us around and explained in details why and what all the locations we went represented. I’ll highly recommend this tour to anyone. I give a five star rating. I just can’t remember the name of our guide, I give him a shout out. 👏🏾🙌🏾

Better to go on your own.

Fior_A, Mar 2022
The tour was short, it didn’t show parts of modern Guadalajara, I didn’t get to see the stadium. In Tlaquepaque we went to a sweet factory and then we got recommendations about places to eat, but nothing about art galleries or cultural information. I think I would have done it better on muy own. The driver was kind but the tour itself did not meet my expectation.

Response from Host, Apr 2022

Calvin_B, Feb 2022
We spent the first hour driving across the city to pick up one person and then another hour to drop him off. 2 hours of my time gone. The rest of the tour was nowhere near the money we paid. Give this one a pass.

Response from Host, Feb 2022

Dear Amig@ Thank you for your comments. We are sorry for your inconvenience, it is important to point out that in a shared tour, pick ups will be made to other clients in other hotels, actually the time was much less but we understand that because of your inconvenience it could have seemed more. Perhaps a private service would be better for you, Amigo Tours would be happy to provide you with such a service on your next trip. Dulce, Amigo Tours

Guadalajara...wonderful but be on alert

William_S, Feb 2022
BE CAREFUL IN GUADALAJARA. MY IPHONEWAS STOLEN OUT OF MY HANDS BY TWO MOTORCYCLE THEIFS. !!Loved hearing the history and seeing the sites of Guadalajara. And our guide helped us know all the special places to visit. Great restaurant in Tlaquepaque recommended by the guide.

Response from Host, Feb 2022

Very fun day!!

Liz_H, Dec 2021
This company is super nice and accommodating! I originally scheduled the city tour of Guadalajara, but due to a lack of people on the group tour, they offered to switch me to the tour of Chapala and Ajijic. It was such an amazing day! Seeing Lake Chapala was absolutely breathtaking and I took some awesome pictures. Hector was my guide. He was so nice, friendly, and funny. Hector explained everything so well and answered all my questions. Just all around a great day. Highly recommend this tour/company!

Response from Host, Dec 2021

Dear Amig@ Thank you very much for your trust, the fact that you have lived a spectacular experience is the best reward for us. We are very happy to have been at your service. Dulce, Amigo Tours

Great Tour

Tryphina, Jul 2020
I attended this tour in July 2020, and I thoroughly enjoyed everything about it! My guide, Bernice, was very knowledgeable, friendly, and a good photographer :-) We saw a lot of beautiful landmarks and tasted great treats at different stops along the route. The driver was wonderful as well. He kept the van clean and was very consistent about providing hand sanitizer to us as we entered the van.

City Tour/ Tlaquepaque

Danny_S, Feb 2020
We made reservations to be picked up at our hotel in Guadalajara. The day before we arrived I got an email indicating that we would be picked up at our hotel with no confirmation that they knew what our hotel was. On the day of the tour, we still had not received a specific confirmation that they knew what our hotel was. However, the tour company picked us up as arranged. When I inquired with the hotel about the tour company Amigo Tours, they indicated there had been problems with this company in the past regarding not picking up clients at the hotel. On the tour, the guide was well-informed and very pleasant. The additional part of the tour to Tlaquepaque was disappointing. The guide indicated that we could be picked up at 3:30 or we could spend as much time as we wanted and get back to our hotel on our own. Upon doing a self guided walk thorough the city, we decided we should have taken the early pick up with the company. We wound up using an Uber to return back to our hotel. Overall, the tour was average.

Response from Host, Mar 2020

We appreciate your comment and take it into account to improve our services as we are committed to customer satisfaction. We hope you come back soon as we have many more experiences to offer. Regards, Amigo Group.

Wonderful experience!

Vesta_A, Feb 2020
We had a wonderful experience! First we went to Lake Chapala and the weather was perfect. Then got to take I the Indian Flying man performance! Amazing! As an artist myself I really enjoyed the Pueblo Magico town of Ajijic. We drove through a gringo neighborhood and saw lots of beautiful homes. Fun murals all over town and a beautiful plaza filled with interesting sculptures and flowers galore! By then we worked up an appetite and our wonderful guides Ramon and Jesus took us to a fantastic Restaurant overlooking the lake called La Iguana de Piedra. The food was wonderful and all the fun animal sculptures and paintings as well as beautiful stained glass was exceptional! Thank you for a wonderful Tour!

Response from Host, Feb 2020

Hello! We appreciate your comment and we are glad you enjoyed an experience as magical as Chichen-Itza. We hope you come back soon as we have many more experiences to offer. Regards, Amigo Group.

Great overview of the city

rwendellr, Feb 2020
Great overview of Guadalajara and Tlaquepaque. I felt the time in Tlaquepaque was slightly short, but overall still great. Highly recommend doing this tour as your first tour in GDL so that you get acquainted with the city.

Guadalajara was a beautiful visit. Filled with local families on summer vacation. It has beautiful museums, opera house, churches and great plazas and restaurants. We will return.

Thibaud Q, Mar 2018
I was supposed to do this tour on the Monday but ended up doing it on Tuesday after the company asked me if I wouldn't mind swapping days between my Tequila tour and the city tour. I was happy to switch and this was well worth it as I got a lucky free upgrade. I was given a free Food tour on top of the city tour and visit of Tlaquepaque. We started the day close to 11am with some delicious food. We started with the Torta ahogada in the place it started, followed by some delicious Chilaquiles red sauce, some agua fresca de limon and a Jericalla traditional Jalisco flan. Having had breakfast before as I wasn't aware I'd get this extra tour for free I was already full, but we had 1 more stop, in town, at the 9 esquinas for a traditional Birria de Chivo. I personally don't like goat but I gave it a try and it was pretty good. Afterwards, we started the tour of the city main spots and I was quite glad for the walk. While the other group finished their tour after this visit, I went on to do the Tour of Tlaquepaque, which is a lovely little town with several art galleries Sergio Bustamante and Rodo Padilla were the ones I went to with my guide and regional crafts shops. The tour as pretty quick and I was given more free time than I needed to go about the town, and do some shopping. I was obviously pretty lucky to get that upgrade but it was a nice tour overall and my guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. I personally think it was worth spending the few extra euros/dollars to go on this tour compared to taking the tourist bus, but this is only my personal opinion.

Local staff - Amigo Tours did a wonderful job showing us some beautiful historical sites and great art plus the shopping area of Tlaquepaque. Very knowledgeable and willing to answer all questions. Comfortable air conditioned van and excellent driver who was also great at photography. Thanks!!

KATHY_G, Mar 2018
The tour of Guad was good, of what we did see. However, instead of making the trip to Tlaquepaque, where we had just a short time to spend by the time we drove there, the 4 of us thought saving the travel time and touring more of the historic center would have been a better use of time.. We went to the Cultural Cabanas on our own to tour the beautiful and historic murals. Thanks.

Ronnie was a gem. Very enthusiastic about Guadalajara history. Had a blast in Tlaquepaque and Ronnie got us great table at thePatio restaurant where we enjoyed mariachi musicians while he stayed outside and stayed with our dog Rosie.

Catherine D, Feb 2018
We really enjoyed our tour. There was another couple joining us on the trip we all happened to be from Oregon. This was the perfect size to be able to ask questions and hear everything. Our guide, Ronnie, was very knowledgeable about the historic significance of the sites we visited and clearly love his city and Jalisco. If we had not been with him we would never have learned about the heroes of Jalisco and Guadalajara area. And the significance of the history of tequila! Who knew drinking tequila was such a benefit to all! Walking around Tlaquepaque was also enlightening and fun. It's a charming area with good food and amazing and famous artisans, plus historical importance. All in all a wonderful introduction to the area. Thank you, Ronnie and aviator.
