Ricardo was a knowledgeable guide and generous with his experience and knowledge. The itinerary was great and appreciated. Lunch was plentiful. What soured the experience was a great deal of pressure not to buy from vendors at the Chichen Itza site because their goods were not authentic. This was present over and over and over again as well meaning advice and we were rushed past those vendors and not afforded the time to even look at what they were selling only to be taken to an authentic “Mayan vendors” where the guilde (Ricardo) was getting an obvious kick-back.

Overall we had a great experience!
We got picked up at 7:50am from our hotel (some people were already in the bus for 1.5 hours so be prepared for a very long day).
Once we got picked up we didn't get much indication except that we will be transferred. We picked up some more people and waited for a while on the side of the road. Some more information would be helpful just to make sure people don't get anxious waiting.
8:55am we were transferred to the bigger bus to make our way to Chichen Itzu. Our trip was bilingual: one Spanish guide, one English guide. They separated the group in 2 to give information.
While they were explaining a lot of the history and culture, they passed some photos and documents. Because we were at the back of the bus, by the time it got to us it was hard to connect with what they have said previously. Having like a booklet with the photos would have been a bit easier to connect and stay focused on what they were presenting.
We arrived at Chichen Itzu at 11:10am. I would recommend eating before or having something to eat on the bus. We booked the option with food but they didn't registered it, we only got our packages at 1:30pm which was just before heading to lunch so not very helpful. Wish we had it before. The packages were also different from the other participants as it was put together by one of the staff members. They were missing some of the things it should have had.
About Chichen Itzu:
- something I haven't seen in any comments: GoPro are permitted but you'll need a permit you can ask for on site because of the copy rights.
- you can use your camera but no tripod, not even phone tripod, selfie sticks are ok but no selfie sticks with tripod. They told us that in the bus but I saw people with their tripods so not sure whats the rule is.
- The tour provides umbrella, 1 per pair: take it, it will help because it gets very very hot during the 1.5 hour tour.
- Make sure you bring water and don't only rely on the tour, because it will get very hot.
1:30pm - back to the bus to eat the lunch.
Lunch was ok, I was excepting a bit better, feels like a cafeteria because it's so big, but I also get that they are trying to make it worth their money and time by trying to get as many tourists as possible. It was just our group and another group though, space was just huge.
After that we stopped in Valladolid, only 30 mins so it's super quick, just in the centre. If you are coming to the tour for this part, it wont be worth it honestly.
Then we went to the cenote at 4pm until 5:15pm.
The one you visit is not as open as the photos you can see, no much lights, don't expect the same photos or views you have seen online. It was very dark.
We drove back 2 hours to Cancun, once we got closer to Cancun they separated us in 2 vans to drive us faster to our hotels, which I found smart! We got back to our hotel at 8:50pm.
Final thoughts:
- I found the visit of Chichen Itzu very quick, without much time to take photos or just take time to reflect on the beauty in front of us.
- We could have save some time at the lunch spot, I know they want to support locals and get you to learn more about the families running the space, but it felt a big long. We bought some products (and I actually left my little turtle on the bus.. sad!) and were super happy to find authentic products, but some could have been cut to give more time in Chichen Itzu.
- Bring headphones for the bus, don't be the person listening to music and videos out loud please.
- Bus was comfortable
- Staff was nice, especially Filipe!
- Our group was around 35, from families to younger and older couples, it's a good mix.
- Bring comfortable shoes for the visit and flip flop or water shoes for the cenote
- If you like to explore independently, that might not be for you. We usually prefer that but didn't want to drive in a country we didn't know so that was the best option for us.

Thank you so much for sharing such a detailed review! 😊
We’re glad to hear that overall you had a great experience and that our team — especially Filipe — helped make your day enjoyable. Your feedback is extremely valuable and highlights both what went well and where we can improve.
It’s very helpful to know about:
Long waiting times and the need for clearer communication at pick-up and transfers.
Having materials like booklets or photos to follow along with the guides’ explanations.
Timing of food and lunch service, and ensuring orders are accurate.
Detailed notes about Chichén Itzá rules, umbrellas, water, and heat precautions.
Valladolid visit being very short and the cenote lighting differing from online photos.
Suggestions on bus etiquette, footwear, and independent exploration preferences.
We really appreciate your thoughtful insights, as they help us improve the experience for future guests. We’re delighted that you still enjoyed Chichén Itzá, the cenote, and the overall tour, and that the mix of guides, staff, and safe transportation contributed to a memorable day.
Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience — we hope to welcome you back for another adventure with a few adjustments to make it even smoother! 🌟

This tour was long but worth it! Angel and Ricardo were great guides that made the experience, especially the actual visit to Chichén Itza, very fulfilling. It’s the difference between looking at some beautiful structures to actually appreciating the art and science that went behind building them over a thousand years ago. This trip is very much for the average tourist, sometimes I wish tours like these were more authentic but I understand you get people from all over the world in 1 experience. The cenote was my favorite and most thrilling experience, and i will remember it forever. I highly recommend over packing to make sure you have everything you need on this 12 hour journey since you’re able to leave belongings in the bus and don’t have to haul them around. Snacks, sunblock, water shoes, waterproof phone case for some cenote pictures, headphones, etc. You’ll be glad you did.

We are delighted to hear that you found the tour worthwhile and that Angel and Ricardo helped make your visit to Chichén Itzá more meaningful and engaging. Understanding the history, art, and science behind such an incredible site truly makes a difference, and we’re glad you were able to experience that.
We also appreciate your honest perspective regarding the style of the tour. As you mentioned, we welcome travelers from all over the world, and we strive to create an experience that is both accessible and enriching for a diverse group of guests.
It’s wonderful to know that the cenote was a highlight of your day — it’s definitely one of the most special and memorable parts of the journey.

We truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you again on another adventure in the future.

We did the full-day tour with two guides — one English-speaking and one Spanish-speaking — and overall it was a good experience.
Be prepared: it’s a long day. We started right at 8:00 am and didn’t eat lunch until around 3:30–4:00 pm. The tour doesn’t wrap up until about 8 or 9 pm, so you’re looking at roughly 12 hours. I highly recommend bringing snacks or grabbing something small at each stop to hold you over.
Our stop in Valladolid was very quick — I really wish we’d had more time there. We grabbed cochinita pibil tacos from a local spot and they were AMAZING (honestly better than the lunch buffet later on).
Chichen-Itza was busy and took a while. The guides move very fast! Once inside, you don’t actually walk too much, but the site itself is massive, so I understand trying to cover everything. That said, I wish we had more time to explore on our own. The guide shared a lot of information — sometimes a bit repetitive — and we mostly stood in general areas listening. It would’ve been nice to get a brochure or some photos to reference afterward, they were kind enough to share some after the day wrapped up which was great!
Lunch was buffet-style. Unfortunately, it wasn’t great. The cochinita pibil there didn’t compare to what we had in Valladolid. It’s all-you-can-eat, but honestly, the food was just okay — not something you’d want seconds of.
The gift shop was pricey, but it’s nice knowing purchases support local families.
The cenote was beautiful, but this part felt rushed. They say you get about an hour, but after changing clothes and organizing your things, you really only get about 15–20 minutes in the water. I wish less time had been spent talking at the restaurant and gift shop so we could’ve enjoyed more time swimming. By the time we changed and went to the snack bar, it was already closed.
Overall, the tour was informative and both guides were funny, which helped. I just wish we had more time at each stop and less repetition during explanations. It wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t super special. The food was definitely the weakest part.
If you go, bring:
* Money as you will be tipping a lot
* Snacks
* Plenty of water
* Towel
* Swimwear & water shoes
* Comfortable shoes
* Sunscreen & a hat
* Cooling towel
* Portable charger
* Waterproof phone case for the cenote
I would advise against bringing small kids — it’s very hot and a very long day.
Hope this helps someone planning their trip!

Abel, Danny, and Jose got us to our destinations safely and with entertainment. They cared about our experience as they got to know us a bit to best tailor the experience. It was very hot and they provided ample water and food was ample as well. My favorite part was the cenote which was a great way to refresh after the hot day. Would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to spend a day in Cancun learning about the culture of Mexico and the Yucatán peninsula

The guide leader, Ricardo, is very knowledgeable about Maya history. He even brought his own collections to show to the tour for explaining Chichen Itza. The itinerary plan is excellent. We learned a lot from this tour!

Louis was a great tour guide. He was very informative and entertaining. Going to the archeological site was a dream come true, and the cenote was wonderful after being so hot. Ofcourse the colonial city was beautiful, I can't wait to see more of it.
