8 of us did a private tour for a bachelorette. It was fun, gentle, relaxing, and we loved being out in nature with these calm and beautiful horses. Amazing and friendly staff and lovely people all around. 100% recommend

We had the best time riding through the desert, up the hillside, and along the beach. Definitely recommend!

The communication about pickup and transport was good. Unfortunate for us our ride was very long from the south side of Cabo. This is not a complaint about the adventure, only an observation. We were picked up at 11am and got back to the resort about 4:30pm. The van was comfortable.
When we arrived at 12:30 we were met by smiles who gave us a brief introductory to the horses. The ride was about an hour and it was beautiful scenery. One of the gentlemen rode around the area on an ATV and would meet the group to take photos of us in various locations. At the end of the ride her showed us all very quickly the photos and offered to sell them to us. $30 for one pic, $50 for all pics of a person and $80 for all pics of two people. (Digital). My daughter and I were at the back of the group and there were a few times when the guide would be explaining something to the group and we could not hear it. It would have been nice if she stopped and waited for us to catch us before explaining things. Some were simple horseback riding tips and at the end she was talking about the turtle rescue they participate in. We heard very little of what was said. That is the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5.
At the end of the ride we were given cold water which was nice.
All in all a good adventure, easy riding for families and riders of all experience levels. I was thankful they had helmets to wear if you wanted. My daughter and I are experienced riders but always will wear helmets if able.
If you are expecting super clean horses and top of the line tack this is not your place. The horses seemed well cared for but were a little dirty. To me this was expected. Saddles and tack were all acceptable.

The staff are nice and the views are gorgeous; HOWEVER, the riding time is only 1 hour, and we expected it to be over 3 hours. The advertisement is quite misleading.
Also, the photos should at least be free, considering the price and the additional park entrance cost. They should also make it clear from the beginning that the photos are not free-my friend thought the photos were included and therefore didn’t bother taking any of her own.

TLDR: If you’re an average tourist just wanting a pretty horseback stroll on the beach, you’ll probably be fine. The scenery is beautiful, the horses are saints, and the guides are nice. Just don’t expect competence… or safety… or stirrups that fit…
The Longer Review:
We booked this ride knowing it would be a basic tourist experience, not a clinic, not a lesson, just a fun beach ride. We weren’t expecting anything high-level. Even with that, the trip was a shock in terms of the safety issues, lack of experience, and overall disorganization.
For context: between us, we ride seven days a week and have been doing so for 10+ years (eventing, foxhunting, cattle work, you name it). So the best part of this experience was honestly the sheer indignation we got to laugh about afterward.
Shortened Ride & Chaotic Start:
The ride was advertised as two hours. Ours ran from 9:30 to 10:45, and that included waiting around because people showed up late. By the time everyone mounted, half the “tour” had passed, and the actual riding time ended up extremely short.
We suspect they cut it short because the horses were fresh on the beach (which happens!) but with even two more minutes of instruction (“heels down,” “sit centered,” “how to hold the reins”), the beginners would’ve been much better prepared. Instead all we got was “pull to turn”.
We were a group of eight total: five complete beginners, plus the three of us who ride daily. Nobody fell off, to their credit.
The Horses:
The horses themselves were kind, tolerant, and doing their absolute best despite everything. They are not dangerous horses. They could use better feeding, grooming, and tack, but they tried their hearts out.
One poor horse even had a dried dead lizard stuck in his tail, so… that’s the level of grooming attention happening here.
The Tack (Rusted, Ill-Fitting, and Downright Unsafe):
This was the most concerning part:
• Rusted tack
• Kid-sized stirrups with no ability to adjust length
• Turned stirrups
• Ill-fitting saddles and bridles
• Girths so loose you could fit a fist under them
• “The cinch is loose.” // “The what?”
• Rope halters tied incorrectly and tied to hitching posts unsafely (we run cattle and use rope halters every day, this wasn’t it)
• Bits and bridles that didn’t remotely fit the horses
• A browband that was too small to go over both ears and slid halfway down a horse’s neck
5-inch curbs were being used, absolutely inappropriate for novices. We saw one small rear because a beginner accidentally pulled too hard on the curb. This setup could very easily flip a horse.
The Guides: Kind, But Not Competent
Everyone was very nice. Great customer service, genuinely pleasant people.
But horsemanship-wise? They didn’t know how to:
• Adjust tack
• Tie a rope halter
• Tighten a girth
• Use a saddle horn
• Slow a horse
• Put their heels down
• Or actually ride
One of the assistant guides openly said they had been riding for two weeks total.
With a group of mostly beginners, this should be a 3:1 rider-to-guide ratio. As is, it felt unsafe.
They pointed out plants on the trail, but none of us could hear a word, so the “tour” part didn’t amount to much.
Environmental Hazards: Quicksand!
We rode straight into quicksand deep enough to take horses up to their hocks before turning around. That should never happen with an experienced guide.
Pace of Ride
We specifically booked a morning ride hoping for a chance to gallop or canter on the beach. That did not happen, which was understandable with beginners in the group, but we also got the sense the guides themselves weren’t comfortable with that pace.
If you want a more placid ride, book for the evening when the horses are more tired. Morning = fresh.
The Good Stuff:
• The scenery was truly stunning, absolutely postcard-worthy.
• Horses were patient, forgiving, and clearly trying their best despite circumstances.
• Staff were polite and friendly.
• Helmets were offered (though we don’t think they were cleaned, and they definitely weren’t certified riding helmets, more like skateboarding helmets).
Final Takeaway:
For casual tourists with zero horse experience, the ride will probably feel fun simply because the horses and scenery carry the day. But from a safety, tack, and horsemanship standpoint? This operation needs serious improvement.
We had a memorable time, but mostly because we had so much to gossip about afterward. Sorry to be those people xx

I thought it was a great deal as it was advertised as 3 1/2 hours of horseback riding. But the actual horseback riding was only about one hour, on top of that they charge $20 a person for a park entry fee. I did not see any park signs anywhere. It feels like I got totally scammed. The actual ride was very nice and our guide was knowledgeable and friendly. It’s a beautiful nature ride and they are involved in turtle conservation which is nice. At the end, they pressure you to buy very expensive pictures also

Views were beautiful. Didn’t get all I bargained for. They changed times on the excursion from morning till late after noon. By the time they got us together it was already getting dark. Disappointed how it was handled. Come to find out they had earlier rides too but probably over committed so our group missed out on the full adventure. I even met some people in Cabo and talked them into going so really felt badly about it afterwards. They had similar sentiment that we got robbed of time because of poor execution.
Kimberly_L, Nov 2025
Most friendly staff. Also, they rescue turtles and when the eggs hatch, they get them back to the ocean. Very impressive!
Becki_S, Oct 2025
The views, horses, and staff were all wonderful! I’m so happy to have chosen to do this during my brief stay in Cabo. Thank you!
Robert_D, Oct 2025
This was a great experience! Highly recommend.
The horses are very well trained and well looked after.

Great staff! Very patient with us. Thomas was gentle with us. A few in our group were nervous. He put them at ease.

Rancho Carisuva legitimately offers one of the most genuine experiences in vacation excursions. The staff is lovely and so accommodating. The ranch is a legitimate ranch that focuses on conservation and protection initiatives for the endangered sea turtles. The horses are so well trained and easy to handle, even for us inexperienced riders. This was our second visit as we came in March '23. This 2nd visit was especially fun as after the horseback tour was over, we planned for a picnic lunch on the beach, which is an easy and quick walk from the ranch. It was a perfect outing and we will return again the next time we are in the Cabo area.

My daughter and husband went on the experience. The pictures were absolutely amazing. It was very quiet, not a lot of folks the driver was absolutely amazing that took us back-and-forth. He stopped and got us ceviche.
Brandon_O, Mar 2025
The horses and people were fine. The views of the ocean were fantastic. We an had an unfortunate situation. Dogs on the beach spooked the horses. It caused the horses to into a frenzy and a lady fell off her horse. She needed to stop the tour and be attended to. Fyi, try to get a heads up if people are on the beach or not.
Lindsay_W, Jan 2025
The excursion was great and the ranch scenery was beautiful! The horses are clearly well looked after and the team onsite were all very pleasant. The ride itself only ended up being 45 minutes and felt very short so I was disappointed to have our time cut like that. We then had to wait 90 mins after the activity to be collected by our transport so it was a 6 hour round trip for 45 minutes
Jenny_R, Jan 2025
Our extended family went on this excursion (5 adults + 4 kids 14, 12, 10 and 6). Our group ranges in experience from owning and riding horses often, to hadn't been on in years! Our youngest kiddo with us hadn't ridden solo much and was a bit nervous. They did a great job meeting everyone where they were at and helping ensure a smooth trip. The views were BEAUTIFUL!! Absolutely gorgeous. We got a good deal on the photos for the group as well ($100 for the whole group). The volunteers were great and we had a great time. For us less experienced horse riders, the amount of time on the actual horses was perfect! The experienced riders could have gone longer, but it was a great time.

Amazing experience! The horses are well trained and we had no experience riding horses so you don’t need any! They teach you everything and the views on the trail were breathtaking. The guide was extremely intelligent and knew a lot about the land, as well as being super kind. Our driver was so sweet as well, she recommended us a taco place after. 10/10 experience. Will definitely come back.
Hillary_W, Nov 2024
This excursion is a wonderful way to experience the diverse beauty of Cabo! We appreciated that the trip included pickup/drop-off. The ranch is exactly as you would expect and the horses are beautiful. The guide was informative, helpful, and truly enjoys his job. I definitely recommend sunscreen, hats, and long pants (as the instructions suggest). The views are incredible! The actual ride lasts about an hour, which is more than enough time to get the full experience, see the beauty of the "dry forest", see the cacti and the beautiful ocean. We even spotted a whale during our time by the beach. Although it was just myself and my husband, I do think my teenage boys would have enjoyed this experience. Overall I have NO complaints!

This horseback ride goes through the desert over to the beach. It’s absolutely beautiful, just do it!
McKenna_H, Oct 2024
Truly the most incredible horse riding tour I have been on! I've ridden a few times a week for 8 years back home, so I feel I'm qualified to say the care these animals receive is superb. The guide was very genuine, kind, and patient with the less experienced people on the tour. I felt super comfortable talking with him about the history and wildlife of the area. He was very knowledgeable.
We navigated a desert trail full of cacti as well as a couple of different beaches. Very solid horses.
I was even allowed to gallop on the beach while the less experienced continued walking.
The end of the tour included some cuddle time with a 2-week-old foal in the paddock.
If I ever do another Cabo vacation, I will definitely be paying them another visit. I honestly wish I had done the ride at the beginning of the week so I could do another tour at the end!

This was the most memorable tour I've taken on horseback. Luis was our guide and he was such a delight. He was knowable of the land, its rich history, the animals & plants of the area as well. Luis went above & beyond to make our experience one of a kind. Rancho Carisuva also had one of the volunteers taking photos throughout and they are worth the additional cost - I am a photographer and their pricing is very reasonable. We will be coming back to ride again & also will be signing up for the other experiences they offer. We got to see a mare who ready to give birth that day, many lizards, countless birds, and even a baby sea turtle that had hatched just moments prior to us passing by it. You can tell the Racho Carisuva staff have hearts of gold & it was really amazing getting to see how they care for their animals & respect the land, animals, & one another. We were able to feel safe and so free all thanks to them. THANK YOU LUIS & THE RANCHO CARISUVA STAFF!! 10/10!!
Aubrie_S, Sep 2024
We had the most amazing experience on our trail ride. The guides were absolutely lovely and so sweet. They took the time to teach us about the horses, explained the sea turtles, and showed us the donkey sanctuary as well. We loved our time and would recommend to anyone!
Stephen_M, Aug 2024
Can’t say enough about this tour. The guides were excellent and knowledgeable, I felt safe the whole time, the landscape - ocean, desert, mountain and beach were beautiful and was a great way to enjoy half of my day. This was the highlight of my vacation in Cabo so far.
Kayleen_L, Aug 2024
It was fun, but a little unorganized. I probably wouldn’t do it again. The horses were not super well trained
Ashley_W, Aug 2024
We had to reschedule due to a storm, which was understandable. The pick up time kept changing and then the driver had issues which changed the time again. When we did get to the ranch, the horses were all being used for another group so the owner offered a ATV ride while we waited. The ATV ride was fun and we saw some neat things. After we got back we were able to ride the horses and that was also enjoyable. All in all it was a fun day.
James_I, Aug 2024
Very friendly staff and picturesque location. We were in a small group of 5. Riding along the beach was special. They also do some stuff with sea turtles if you’re interested in learning about that.
Pamela_W, Jul 2024
Our guides were prompt, professional, patient and friendly. We had a wonderful experience. The horses were gentle and the scenery was beautiful.
Evan_P, Jul 2024
Our guide did a wonderful job of making sure we got to know the basics for horse riding, while keeping it short and sweet. Loved taking them out on to the beach!
